Charles & Marietta Meerdink

Charles & Marietta (Walters) Meerdink
Charles Meerdink, was highly recognized in the community and held a high ranking position with the Rocky Mountain Fuel Company. He was the Superintendent of the Vulcan Coal Mine at the time the mine exploded, killing 37 miners, in 1913.
Donald Meerdink (1902-1913)
Lot 432 / Plot 4
Born June 2, 1902
Died May 3, 1913 - New Castle, CO
Parents - Charles & Marietta (Walters) Meerdink
Young Donald died 30 days before his 11th birthday. I have no information as to his cause of death.
This headstone is one of the most recognized in Highland Cemetery because of the design and it's highly visible location near the current main road as it enters the older section of the cemetery. Donald is interred next to his sister Mary and also interred in the same lot with his grandparents, Samuel and Mary Walters.
Marietta "Mary" Meerdink (1917-1918)
Lot 432 / Plot 3
Parents - Charles W. Meerdink & Marietta (Walters) Meerdink
Baby Mary is interred next to her brother Donald Meerdink. There is no additional information as to the cause of her death. The year of death gives consideration to the Spanish Flu as possible cause of death. She is interred in the same lot as her grandparents, Samuel and Mary Walters.
