Listed as "died" with a home town of Vernon in the 1941 Colorado Adjutant General book, Roster of Men and Women Who Served in the World War from Colorado, 1917-18. The footnote would seem to indicate that Leo died of causes other than wounds.
Leo Albert Winterstein, age 24, born Nov, 11, 1893, Griswold, Iowa,
registered for the draft June 5, 1917 in Yuma Co. At that time he was living
near Vernon and working for Mason Chamberlain of Vernon. He was single and
listed no next of kin.
