Laird Man is Casualty in Philippines
Harold Bingham is Killed in Action on Luzon Island On April 6.Mrs. Alice Bingham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rutz, former Laird and Wray residents who now reside at Otis, received word Saturday morning from the War Department that her husband, Harold (Babe) Bingham, had been killed in action on the Island of Luzon, Philippine Islands, on April 6. No other details were included in the wire.
The young man was well and favorably known in this locality. He had resided at Laird for many years. He had been overseas for two years and the couple have a son Gary Lee, who had never seen his father. It is reported that the soldier recently refused a thirty-day furlough in the hopes that he would be able to come home shortly to remain permanently. Mrs. Bingham has made her home at Otis with her parents since her husband left for the service. She had received a letter, the last her husband wrote, that was dated April 5, the day before he was killed.
