From the Ross Family Collection. Scanned by Lee Zion.
These two photographs were taken in the 1930s. This building on Colorado just west of the Vernon Park was put up about 1911 by E.G. Lohman for his general store. Asa Miller purchased it in 1915 and opened a hardware that Max Ross purchased in 1930 and operated until the 1940s. The building on the right was used as a community center and dance hall for many years starting about 1921 when the Vernon State Bank moved north a block into a new brick building.
Max Ross and family inside the hardware. A little bit of everything on display. My mother used a washing machine just like that one.
The red arrow on the map below shows the store location.
