Patrick H. and Nina (Pesch) Shea, Yuma and Wray
Mrs. Mary L. Pesch, mother of Mrs. L. A. Mustain [Alice] and Mrs. J. R. Deering [Mary Teresa "Molly"], died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. L. Stevenson, at Fort Morgan last Thursday at the age of 85 years. the remains were brought to Yuma and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, Rev. S. D. Goodale officiating, and interment was at the Yuma cemetery. Mary Luhetty Strain was born February 8, 1848 at Bethany, Illinois and died June 9, 1933 at Fort Morgan, Colorado. She was married October 17, 1872 to John P. Pesch, who preceded her in death in the winter of 1908. To this union were born seven children, namely Mrs. P. H. Shea, of Fairbury, Nebraska, C. A. Pesch and Mrs. F. G. Lett of Denver, Mrs. J. R. Deering and Mrs. L. A. Mustain of Yuma, Mrs. Walter Stevenson of Fort Morgan, and Mrs. Henry Stevenson of Wray. Mr. and Mrs. Pesch went to Nebraska as pioneers in 1881, settling near Holdredge. Eight years later they came to Eastern Colorado, where they made their permanent home. Mary Pesch was affiliated with the Methodist church of which she was a devoted member. Besides her seven children, she leaves to mourn her death a brother, William Strain of Kingman, Kansas; twenty-eight grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. All of her children and most of her grandchildren were were present at the funeral, six grandson acting as pallbearers. Yuma Pioneer, Yuma, Colorado June 15, 1933 Transcribed by Carol Moore. |
