Yuma County Pioneers:

Yuma County Fair a Success

This article gives a few names of people- most from Wray

From the Wray Rattler - September 11, 1908, page 8

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Good Races and Good Games and a very nice line of Exhibits

The 1808 (sic) fair of the Yuma County Fair Association was rated a success both financally and otherwise.  While the crops this year were not of the best, yet the display and all lines were quite good and the management is to be congratulated upon the success which crowned their efforts.  There were many attractions on the ground, including a steam swing.  One thing which was a novelty and which was highly appreciated, was "Little Albertena" the seven year old acrobat and contortionist.  The attendance on Saturday was near the 1200 mark.  The Yuma Band furnished music for the occasion and played on the streets in the evening.  We want to say that the boys put up a good article.

There wre three ball games, one on Friday and two on Saturday.  Friday's game was between Wray and the Idalia country and the result was 22 to 7 in favor of Wray.  Saturday morning's game between Wray and Vernon resulted in a a score of 9 to 8 in favor of Wray.  Wray also won the game in the afternoon against the Idalia and Kirk teams, or Maroons, as they are called, the score being 11 to 7.

The universal verdict is that the fair ground's (sic) should be nearer town and sooner or later they will have to be moved.  The fair will be a much greater success whenever that is done, and the sooner the better.
