George and Martha (Murfin) Short

Rosie May Murfin was born November 29, 1875 in Chicago to
William Murfin of Devonshire England, 35, and Mary Elizabeth Brinkman of Pennsylvania, 28.
Martha is in Warren County, Illinois in 1880, age 7, with William 41 and Lizzie Murfin 31. Mary is 10, Rosa 5, and nephew Joseph 8.
(Mary Murfin Hawkins is in Denver in 1910, with Genevieve Kirkpatrick 18 and Mary 16, both born in Colorado. She's married to Oliver Hawkins 41, born in Illinoias.
In 1895 Cheyenne County, Kansas, William Murphin is farming, 56, Mary 46, with Mary Elizabeth 1 born in Colorado, Jessie 8 in Kanss, and Jennie 3 in COlorado.
William Murfin is in Cheyenne County, Kansas, in 1900, farming,
born Nov 1837 in England, with Mary E. June 1849 Pennsylvania,
married 29 years. Granddaughter Jesse Murfin was born January 1887 in Kansas. Granddaughter Jennie Kirkpatrick Aug 1891 and Mary Feb 1893 were born in Colorado.
In 1910 Denver, William is 70, Mary 62, and granddaughter Grace Guy 11 iwts with them, born in Colorado.
In November 1913 "W. M. Murfin of Wray" was a Nebraska land lottery entrant, with number under 200.
Elizabeth Murfin 1849-1930 is buried in Wheat Ridge, # 19076266.
So is William Murfin # 152964701, "Enlisted in Company I, Illinois 124th Infantry Regiment on 10 Sep 1862. Mustered out on 15 Aug 1865 at Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL."
In 1880 Gove County, Kansas, Allen Short is farming, 64, with Harrietta 60. Elihu L. is 17, Sarah 25, George W. 24, and Rowlen J. 23. All the kids were born in Illinois.
FindaGrave # 113321820 has a nice obituary:
"
Allen Short was born Feb. 6th. 1816, in Green county, Ky., and died at his home in Belleville, Kan., Oct. 7th 1895. He professed religion and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church in early life, and entered the ministry in 1868. He was married to Harriet A. Park June 30, 1847. He moved from Kentucky to Illinois in 1825, in which state he resided until he moved to Republic county, Kan., in 1884. He leaves a wife, five sons and one daughter to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.
Rev. Short was a man whose life and habits are worthy of emulation; honorable and upright, he was respected and esteemed by all who knew him.
Being a Mason, the funeral services were conducted by that order, the remains being taken to his former home near Narka by a number of the members of Belleville Lodge, where they were transferred to the Narka Lodge for final services and interment.
In 1900 Haigler, Nebraska, George Short is ranching 44, with Martha J. Short 23, married three years. They have Harriett 2 and Geore W. five months.
In 1908, George Short is managing the Crystal Lake Ice Co. in Wray, "Will furnish in any quantity - in Pound or Carload."
September 11, 1908 "Mrs. Wm. Murfin, of Edgewater, Colo., was called here last
Saturday by the serious illness of her daughter, Mrs. George Short.
We are pleased to note, however,
that Mrs. Short is now much improved and her speedy recovery seems assured."
1909 Wray "George Short went west, Tuesday to lcok after a bunch of horses he
is interested in, and which he will bring to Wray in a few days.
These horses are good work horses, well broken, and will be sold at public sale.
Watch for bills announcing date."
In 1910 George is farming in Yuma County, 54, with Martha J. 36, Harriett E. 12, William G. 10, and Allen C. 8.
November 1910 Sand Hill items in the Wray Rattler "Mrs. George Short and daughter,
Harriet, visited at the Albert Nelson ranch Tuesday."
December 1911 "Mrs. George Short and little son, William,
leave the last of this week for a visit with relatives in Denver. Mrs.
Short has a mother and sister living there."
November 1913 "The deal was closed just recently whereby George Short disposed
of his relinquishment north of town to Harry Shriner of Haigler.
Mr. Short will give possession the first of March and Mr. Shriner and family will
locate here permanently. The George Short family will build on their quarter
section of land joining their homestead on the south right side of the
Crystal lake. They have just completed a substantial dam and are planning
on putting up a big supply of ice this winter."
June 1913 
December 1913 "Mr. George Short and son, Allen, expect to leave Saturday
for the states capital where they will spend a week with Mrs. Short's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. William Murphin, who reside in that city."
September 1916 "Mrs. Grace Guy of Denver, is visiting at the home of her aunt,
Mrs. George Short, west of town."
"Mrs. Mayme Kirkpatrick and sister, Miss Grace Guy, arrived Friday afternoon for a visit
with another sister, Mrs. George Short and family of west of Wray. Mrs. Kirkpatrick is
from Seward, Alaska, and Miss Guy is a resident of Denver.
The latter intends remaining with Mrs. Short and family for several weeks."
January 1918 "Mrs. George Short arrived home Sunday from a week
spent in Denver visiting relatives and friends and seeing the Stock
Show. She was accompanied by her niece, Miss Grace Guy,
who will visit in Wray and vicinity for a few weeks."
June 1918 "Mr. and Mrs. George Short west of town, enjoyed a visit from Thursday
of last week to Wednesday of this week, from Logan Short and family of Belleville,
Kansas. Logan is a nephew of Mr. Short, and this was the first time they had met
in eighteen years. The visitors were bound by auto for the mountains to spend
a month or six weeks."
In 1920 Wray, George W. Short is 63, with Martha 45, both born in Illinois. Harriett is 20, George W. 18, and ALlen C. 16, all three born in Nebraska.
July 1922 "George Short, the genial clerk at the Mat Rinckel store,
plans to leave with his family the first of the week for a short vacation trip.
They will motor east to several Nebraska towns, where they will visit relatives."
June 1923 
In 1930 Yuma County, George is farming, 77, Martha 56 born in Illinois. G. William 30 is farming with them.
George W. Short 1856-1931 is buried in Wray # 61129459, with Martha J. 1873-1982 # 61129508.
In 1940, William G. is farming, 40, and widowed mother Martha J. is with him.
G. William Short 1900-1982 is also buried in Wray # 61129407.
Allen Christian Short married Marine Theo Wright on September 18, 1929 in Everett, Washington a t the Central Lutheran Church.
In 1930 Allen, 28, is a poultry farmer in Kirkland, Washington, 28, with Mamie 21.
Harriet Hawks 1898-1986 is buried in Wray # 63831289.
So is Alwyn B. Hawks 1897-1978 # 63831224.
