---------------------------------------------- Jane Marie (Shapard) Lengel 1906-2003 is buried in Wray # 64658013, and John Bryan Lengel 1898-1988 is buried in Littleton # 8322631. "Jane Marie Lengel, 96, of Wray died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 at Cedardale Health Care Centre in Wray. She was born Sept. 27, 1906, in Hanford, Mo., one of eight children to Benjamin F. and Nancy Jane (Carlock) Shapard. The family moved to Yuma County in 1915 and established a homestead. She graduated from Wray High School in 1924. On Dec. 28, 1928, she married John B. Lengel in Wray. He is deceased. Mrs. Lengel taught in the Yuma County schools for four years. In 1938, the family moved to Castle Rock and later to the Denver area. In 1960, they moved to La Salle, where she worked as a practical nurse at the Weld County Nursing Home in Greeley. Survivors are a daughter, Jan Calhoun of Denver; three sons, John of Sheperd, Texas, Robert of Colorado Springs and Richard and his wife, Barbara, of Platteville; a brother, George Shapard of Billings, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Her parents, two sisters, four brothers and a granddaughter, Melony Lengel, are deceased. Private family memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation. " ----------------------------------------------------------- John Victor Lengel 1930-2015 has an unknown burial, per # 150406434 "John was born in Wray, Colo., to John Brian and Jane Marie Lengel and grew up in Englewood. He attended Cathedral High School and subsequently served six years in the Navy through the Korean War. He was a career machinist for Wilkerson Corporation in Englewood. Upon retirement, he enjoyed many years of “RVing” residing in Shepherd, Texas, before settling in Greeley. John is survived by a brother, Robert and sister, Janis Calhoun. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; daughter, Melony Jane; and the three women he loved Clara, Beth, and Joan. " -------------------------------------------------- Richard "Dick" Louis Lengel, 82, passed away on April 11, 2015 in Greeley after a lengthy illness. He was born October 9, 1932 in Wray, Colorado to John Brian Lengel and Jane Marie (Shapard) Lengel and was raised in Idalia, Castle Rock and Englewood, CO graduating from Englewood High School in 1950. Dick faithfully served two years in the U.S. Army with an artillery unit in Germany. Upon discharge, he returned to Colorado A&M earning a Bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry in December 1957. He met the love of his life, Barbara Allyn Smith, in January 1957 and they married June 7, 1957 on the A&M campus. He accepted a job with the USDA Soil Conservation Service and moved to Deming, NM where Brian Allyn and Susan Marie were born before the family returned to his beloved plains of Colorado in 1963. In 1964 he began his career with the USDA Farmers Home Administration and welcomed his third child Jonathan Scott. His FHA career took him to Durango, Greeley and the Denver state office where he was the Colorado Rural Housing Director prior to his retirement in 1990. He farmed and raised cattle with his father and sons throughout his life, first south of LaSalle and then on his own farm north of Platteville from 1976 to 2006 when he returned to the farm near LaSalle. His retirement was in name only as he served northeastern Colorado as a loan representative and board member for the Colorado Rural Rehabilitation Corporation. Dick was an active member and officer of the First Presbyterian Church of LaSalle, the Platteville Lions Club and the Merry Mixer Square Dance Club. Above all things was the love of his family. He loved following the family with an active interest in whatever they were doing while passing on his love of the land and his gentle, positive, caring approach to life. He is survived by his wife Barbara; children Brian, Susan (Dick Wolfe) and Jon (Edie); brothers John and Robert; sister Janis Calhoun; grandchildren Bryson (Stacie) Wolfe, Wesley Wolfe, Jordan Richard (Jessica) Wolfe, Haylie Lengel, Baylie “Adie” Lengel, Michael Lengel, Joseph Lengel and Janna Marie Lengel; and great grandchildren Savannah Wolfe, Alyvia Wolfe and Ace Richard Wolfe. Six nieces and nephews were also an important part of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Melony Jane Lengel. A special thanks to Crystal and Mary who provided care to Dick and enabled him to live with Barbara at home, and to all the people who cared. ---------------------------------- "Jacqueline "Jacquie" Ann Strauch, age 69 of Greeley died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at North Colorado Medical Center. Jacquie was born April 6, 1944 in Wray, Colorado to James and Bette (Potter) Shapard. Jacquie married James E. Strauch on June 4, 1966 in Commerce City, Colorado. Jacquie and James came to Greeley in 2008 from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Prior to living in Oklahoma, they lived in Mead, Colorado from 1972 to 2006. Jacquie was a housewife and a volunteer school nurse for the Mead Elementary and Mead Middle School. She loved to bowl and had bowling trophies, pins and other bowling awards. She loved to play the piano, made beautiful homemade Christmas decorations and most of all loved her family. Jacquie is survived by her husband James of Greeley, one son Greg Strauch and his wife Leann of Platteville, two sisters Judy Adams of Longmont and Pat Fuller and her husband Boyd of Johnstown. In addition, her step-mom Betty Shapard and her half sister Bobbie Shapard, both of Yuma, survive her. Jacquie also has three stepsisters, Judy Walters and her husband Bing of Brighton, Jean Gilbo of Thorton and Joyce Castin of Yuma. She has two grandchildren, Rebecca and Rachel Kennedy of Dallas. Jacquie was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Debora Jean Kennedy, who died in 2006. Memorial services will be Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Howe Mortuary Chapel. Services will conclude at the mortuary with a reception in the Event Center." |
