September 1934 Wray "Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Leonard and Max visited with Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Leonard, and Mr and Mrs. Bob Orcutt and sons Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Leonard spent Monday and Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Reed at Haigler, Nebraska. "
September 1936 "Silas Elias Lenard died Thursday, Oct. 8,
at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 26 days.
Funeral services were held at the Hitchcock funeral home Monday, Oct. 12,
with the Rev. F. R. Shively of Benkelman, Neb., as the officiating clergyman.
The remains were laid to rest in Grandview cemetery.
The funeral was to have been held Sunday, Oct. 11 but on account of the critical
illness of Mrs. Annie Leonard, wife of the deceased, the funeral was postponed."
"Silas Elias Leonard was born on June 12, 1864 in Illinois where his early
life was spent. He moved to Iowa and on Oct. 6, 1876 was united in marriage
to Martha Ann Nicholson and to this union ten children were born,
four of whom preceded their father in death. In 1877 he and his family moved to
Nuckolls county, Nebraska. The greater part of the last several years of his
life was spent at Wray, Colorado. I1l health was his unfortunate lot
during the last year of his life, and on Oct. 8, 1936 he passed to the great
beyond.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife and the following children:
Silas Elisha, Wray Colo.; Joseph Franklin, Alma, Neb.;
Chas. Newton, Wray, Colo.; Mrs. Lou Orcutt, Wray, Colo.;
Mrs. Lucy Polfus, Benkelman, Neb.; James Henry, Deepwater, Mo.;
also two brothers, one sister, eighteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church."
October 1936 "Jim Leonard and son of Deep Water, Mo.,
Mrs. Rose Leonard and son of Beaver City, Neb., and Mrs. Polfus of Benkelman, Neb.,
were called to Wray last week on account of the death of Silas Leonard."
December 10, 1936 Wray Rattler
"Martha Ann, daughter of Elisha and Delila Nicholson, was born in Iowa Oct. 1, 1866, where she grew to womanhood, and passed away at Benkelman, Nebraska, Dec. 3rd. On Oct. 6, 1876 she was united in marriage to Silas Leonard and to this union ten children were born, six of whom survive. Soon after her marriage she moved to Missouri and in 1878 she moved to Furnas County, Nebraska. In 1898 the family moved to Colorado but in recent years had returned at times to Nebraska and Missouri.
Funeral services were held at the Hitchcock funeral home in Wray Dec. 6th. Interment was made in Grandview cemetery, with Floyd ill. Shively of the Church of Christ officiating.
Mrs. Leonard is survived by the following children: Silas Leonard of Wray, Joseph of Franklin, Neb., Chas. Leonard of Wray, Mrs. Lou Orcutt of Wray, Mrs. Lucy Polfus of Benkelman, and James Leonard of Deepwater, Mo. One brother and three sisters also survive. They are Frank Nicholson of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Fannie Gilchrist of Bridgeport, Mrs. Clara Hewett of McCook, and Mrs. Rose Leonard of Beaver City, Neb. There are also 18 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well as many less near relatives and friends.
Mrs. Leonard's husband Silas Leonard, passed away October 8, 1936. The sympathy of many friends is extended the bereaved relatives."
February 1945 Wray "Mrs. S. E Leonard returned on Monday from a three-months
visit at Houston, Texas, with her granddaughter, Sherrie Ann Noble."

LOU AND ARCHIE ORCUTT
Archie Orcutt was born

He had registered for WWII in Benton County, Washington, born Sept 23, 1885 at Albion, Nebraska.
They had Elmer Eugene Orcutt on June 25, 1921 in McCook, Nebrakska, and Archie Emerial Orcutt on Sept 7, 1922 in Palisade, Nebraska.
January 1936 Wray "Mrs. Nettie Chrisman, who is still quite ill from the effects of pneumonia, was favored by a visit Sunday from Mrs. Dan Orcutt and daughters. Also of Mrs. Bob Orcutt and sons Elmer and Archie, all who were her guests at dinner Sunday. "
July 1942 "Elmer Orcutt, who has been employed by the Safeway stores in
Denver, enlisted this past week in the marines and will leave this Friday
morning for San Diego, California, to begin his training. He is the son of
Mrs. Lou Orcutt, and accompanied by a friend, Melvin Lee, came to Wray
Tuesday morning for a short visit with his mother and his brother, Archie
Orcutt, before leaving for California."
August 1942 "Your washing and ironing done carefully and neatly, by Mrs. Lew
Orcutt."
October 1942 "Archie Orcutt, who is employed at Fred's Grocery, lost most of
the first joint of the middle finger on his left hand, when he caught it in
a meat grinder while at work at the store Tuesday. He was given medical
attention, and the injured finger is mending satisfactorily, but he will be
unable to work for several days."
August 1942 "Archie Orcutt spent the weekend in Benkelman, Nebraska, with his
cousin, Leonard Polfus. Both young men returned to Wray Sunday evening. Mr.
Polfus visited here until Thursday when he plans to go back to McCook for
orders pertaining to his enlistment in the navy last week."
May 1945
"Mrs. Nellie Mae Rears and Mrs. Lou Orcutt, cousins, and both widely known
residents of Wray, were the brides In a pretty double wedding held at the
home of Mrs. Rears' father, L. H. Alberti, at Springfield, this state, on
Monday noon, May 14. The grooms were, respectively, Mr. James Harding and
Mr. Asa Wineinger, both Tribune, Kansas, business men. The impressive double
ring ceremony was used for both weddings and was read by Rev. S. E. Randell.
Both brides were given in marriage by Mr. Alberti, who is 91 years old. The
ladies wore matching cream colored dresses and carried white Bibles. Their
corsages, gifts from Mr. Alberti, were of tiny pink roses. The evening of
the marriage, there was a wedding dinner for the two couples at the home of
Mrs. Blanche Krammer in Tribune. After honeymooning for a week, the
newlyweds came on to Wray, arriving here Sunday to receive the
congratulations of their many Wray friends."
Lou Orcutt and Asa Wineinger married in Washington County, Colorado on December 8, 1945.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Dale Wheeler, were held Saturday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Assembly of God church for William F.
Williams. Burial was later that day in the Benkelman. Neb., cemetery.
William Fielding Williams, son of Reese and Mary Williams, was born at
Salina, Kansas, on August 17. 1888. He died November 7 at the Washington
County hospital at Akron at the age of 73 years, two months and 21 days. At
the age of six months, he came to Nebraska with his parents and they resided
in the Benkelman community. On September 16. 1913, he was married to Loa
Edith Artist. They made their home in the Benkelman and Haigler vicinities,
farming and running a business in Haigler. Five daughters; Esther,
Lula,
Norma, Frances and Pearl, were born to them. Mrs. Williams died in December
of 1945. In 1947, Mr. Williams moved to Wray and was married to Mrs. Lou
Orcutt. He was employed at various jobs here and for some time was a member
of the Wray police department. He was preceded in death by his parents,
three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving him are his wife, Lou; five
daughters; Mrs. Wayne Putnam and Mrs. Howard Miller of Benkelman, Neb.
, Mrs.
Everett Ziemer of Portland. Ore., Mrs Harold Thomas of Tacoma, Wash . and
Mrs. Dyke Troia of Everett Wash.; two stepsons, Archie Orcutt of Wray and
Elmer Orcutt of Red Bluff, Calif.; fifteen grand children, four great
grandchildren and a sister-in-law Mrs. Ella Williams of Benkelman. Nebraska.
ELMER
Elmer Eugene Orcutt, born June 25, 1921 at McCook, registered for WWII in Wray, working at the Safeway store, next of kin Lou Orcutt.
February 1944 "Word received from Corporal Elmer Orcutt by his mother, Mrs. Lou Orcutt, relates the news that while serving in the South Pacific area he was fortunate in meeting Sergeant Glenn Boyce, another Wray boy. "
March 1944 "Melvin Boyce, a brother of Sergeant Glenn Boyce, was the Wray boy whom Cpl. Elmer Orcutt met in the South Pacific Area. Sergeant Glenn Boyce is still stationed in England, according to latest word received by relatives. "
October 5, 1944 "Cpl. Elmer E. Orcutt, who has been enjoying a
furlough in Wray visiting with his mother, Mrs. Lou Orcutt,
and brother Archie, departed Tuesday to return to duty at San Diego,
Calif."
Elmer and Janice Lee Swinney married in Sacramento,
California on October 8, 1944.
Janice was in Plumas County, California in 1940, 13, with Harvey L. Sweeney 41 and Ruby A. 42.
January 3, 1946 "Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Orcutt of Red Bluff,
California, have a baby daughter, Sandra Lee, who weighed six pounds
and three ounces. This is the first grandchild of
Mrs. Lou Winelnger of Wray. "
June 1948 "Mr. and Mrs. Ward Artist of Benkelman, Neb., and Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Williams of Wray have returned from a three-week’s trip to various places on the west coast where each of the people visited children. The trip was given by the Artists to Mr. and Mrs. Williams, as a wedding gift. Mrs. Williams is former Lou Orcutt and the couple was xharried at the Nazarene church in Wray on March 24. During their trip they visited the latter lady’s son, Elmer Orcutt at Chico, Calif., and he has asked that his greeting to Wray friends be extended through The Gazette."

Don C. Orcutt is a salesman for Swift & Co, living at 763 42nd.
Ray A. is a laborer for General Services Administration, living at 561 Haggin .
In 1960 Elmer is a salesman for Rainbo Baking, with Janice at 1261 Jefferson
in Red Bluff, California.
Elmer 1921-1991 is buried in Tehama, California # 111850445, with Janice Lee (Swinney) Orcutt 1926-2000.
Janice was living in Corning, California in 1998.
ARCHIE
June 1945 "A very pretty wedding was performed Tuesday noon at the Methodist
Episcopal church parsonage in St. Francis, Kan., when Miss Charline
Noffsinger became the bride of Archie E. Orcutt. The ceremony was performed
by Rev. I. F. Allen and the couple were attended by Mrs. Roy White and Mrs.
Paul Noffsinger. The bride was attired in a powder blue dress with navy
accessories and wore a corsage of red roses and white carnations. The groom
wore a dark blue business suit.
The bride is the charming daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. C. B. Noffsinger of Wray and the groom is the youngest son of Mrs.
Asa Weinieger. They both attended grade and high school in Wray and Archie
served nine months in the Army Quartermaster Corps. A wedding dinner was
served in the evening at the C. B. Noffsinger home, invited guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Archie Orcutt, the brides grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Funk, who
are celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. C. B.
Noffsinger and Helen, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Weinieger, Mrs. J. W. Noffsinger, Mr.
Delbert Noffsinger and Sharon Kaye, Mrs. Roy White, and Mrs. Paul
Noffsinger. After a short honeymoon in Denver Mr. and Mrs. Orcutt will make
their home in Wray."
July 1957 "Little Connie Orcutt, daughter of the Archie Orcutts, whose
valiant fight almost since birth against a heart condition had caught the
sympathy and attention of this community, lost that fight to death Sunday at
the Wray Community hospital. Connie had lain unconscious in Children's
hospital in Denver for the past several weeks after submitting to the most
recent of two delicate heart operations performed in an attempt to mend her
heart. She was returned here by ambulance last week and placed in the local
hospital.
Funeral services for the child, who was a first grade student at
the Wray school last year, will be held this afternoon a 2 o'clock from thp
Assembly of God church, which she had attended since babyhood. The Rev. J.
W. Arnold and the Rev. David T. Holden of Denver will officiate. Classmates
of Connie's will be casket bearers and flower girls. They are Jimmy Schafer,
Rodney Lucas, Donald Schelly, Lyle Burr. Jimmy Roberts and Johnny Johnson;
Leann Waters, Pam Wisdom, Peggy White, Sharon Hogsett, Sharon Houg&n and
Phyllis Akey. Burial will follow in Grandview cemetery. The Lockwood
Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Connie was born at the Wray hospital
on October 26. 1949, and had spent the seven years, eight months and
eighteen days of her life here, excepting for her periods of treatment in
Denver. She had an engaging personality and was popular with her playmates
and class mates.
Surviving are her parents, Archie and Charlene Orcutt; a
sister, Donna Lou; a brother, Danny, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.
B. Noffsinger and Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Williams.
Archie is buried in Wray 1922-1998 # 68940649, with Charline E. 1928-2014.
