Earl and Louisa (Brady) Kimber , Wray

Louisa E. Brady, 20, and Earl A. Kimber married in Yuma County on June 2, 1912.
"A very pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Brady in West Wray Sunday evening at 5:30 o'clock when their only daughter, Miss Lula, was united in marriage to Earl Kimber, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Kimber, of southeast of Wray. The ceremony was performed by Rev. A. L. Ogden, pastor of the Christian church of which Miss Lula is a member. Mrs. Kimber was a graduate of the Yuma county high school in 1911 and was one of our successful teachers during the past winter. Mr. Kimber has been farming for quite a while and will continue to follow that occupation. They will make their home the coming summer with the parents of the groom on the home place which Earl is tending in partnership with his father.
Those present were the immediate family of the contracting parties, Mr. and Mrs. Johh Speirs and Miss Anna Armstrong. The young couple were the recipients of quite a number of gifts as a token of the high esteem in which they are held in this community by their many friends. The Rattler extends congratulations and best wishes to these young people."

In 1920 Yuma County, Wray precinct, Earl H. Kimber is farming, 30, with Lorisa 28 and Lizabelle 5, all born in COlorado.

Lulu and Earl divorced in Yuma County in 1929.

Earl is in Waterloo, Iowa in 1930, and Floyd County, Iowa in 1940.

He was in Hastings, Nebraska in 1944, and in 1946 "Mr. and Mrs. C. E. "Gene" Sellon, who were married on February 27, 1896, in the home of Mrs. Sellon's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Witzel, in Ulster Township, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Nora Springs on Wednesday with open house for their relatives. All of their 9 children will be at the home. Their children are: W. B. Sellon of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Earl Schultz (Hazel) of Mason City, Mrs. Earl Kimber (Sadie) of Hastings, Nebraska; Loyal Sellon, at home; Mrs. Fern Ashmore of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. L. V. Jacobson (Nina) of Nora Springs, Earl Sellon of New London, Clarence Sellon of Minneapolis and Harold Sellon of Mason City. One son, George died at the age of one year. They have six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren."

December 1946 : "Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kimber departed Sunday from Wray after visiting for several days in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Kimber, who have been living in Hastings, Nebraska, were en route to Seattle, Washington to make their home."

Earl Harold Kimber 1889-1963, last residence Seattle, husband of Sadie (Sellen)(Smith), 1901-1989, who married Harry Parrott 1914-1993.

In 1930 Wray, Lulu is 38, Verna I. 15, Donald E. 9, Dorotha E. 9. Velvin Brown is 27. She is a stenographer at the court house.

In 1940 Wray, Lulu is 49, Donald and Dorothy 20, Clara M. Brady 72, and "Velvet" Brown 37.


1946 "Mrs. Lulu Kimber and her mother, Mrs. Clara Brady, drove to Greeley Wednesday where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Brady. Mr. Brady is the son of Mrs. Clara Brady and the brother of Mrs. Kimber. Mrs. Kimber returned home Wednesday evening but Mrs. Brady i-emained for a longer visit."

August 1948 "Mrs. Lulu Klmber and daughter, Mrs. Verna Kious, and granddaughter, Loidene Groseclose drove to Greybull, Wyo., where Loidene remained at her home with her parents. She had spent a few weeks with her grandmother in Wray."

December 1949 "Holiday guests at the home of Mrs. Lulu Kimber have been her children. Don Kimber MM Ic, his wife and daughter Linda of Dubuque, la., came the Wednesday before Christmas and will leave this Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Groseclose and Loy Dene of Greybull, Wyo., came Tuesday of last week and will be here until New Year’s Day. Mrs. Verna Kious and Paul Peckman of Denver left Tuesday after spending Christmas in Wray."

September 30, 1948 "Mrs. Clara Melissa Brady, beloved pioneer resident of Wray, died Monday in the Greeley hospital where she had been a patient since she fell in September and sustained a hip fracture. She had been in Greeley for a month for medical treatment. She was 80 years and 10 months old at the time of her death.
Services for Mrs. Brady will be held this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Christian church in Wray. She joined the Christian church here in 1909 and remained a faithful member until her death. Rev. R. E. Kinsell will officiate and interment will be at Grandview cemetery.
Mrs. Brady's death will sadden the many who had known her through her long residence here and who held her in affectionate esteem for her kindness and friendliness. She was born Clara Melissa Zepp, daughter of J. J. and Edith Zepp, in Keokuk, lowa, on November 27, 1867. She came to Colorado with her parents in 1887 and the family settled at Robb where her father was a pioneer postmaster. On February 23, 1890, she was married to Oliver S. Brady at Wray. The couple farmed west of Wray until 1903, then south of town until 1909 when they moved into town. Wray has since been her home.
She has lived since 1940 with her daughter, Mrs. Lulu Kimber. There were two children born to Mr. and Mrs. Brady, both of whom survive. They are Mrs. Kimber of Wray and Ellis Brady of Greeley. There are also five grandchildren - Loreen Briggs of Greeley, Gene Brady of Chicago, Verna Kious of Denver, Dorothea Groseclose of Greybull, Wyo., and Donald Kimber of Norfolk, Va., three great grandchildren and many less near relatives."

October 1944 "Mr. and Mrs. Morris Kimber gave a family dinner at their home on Sunday. A delicious menu was served. Those who participated in the occasion were: Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cruse of Sterling, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mitchell of Sterling, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Kimber and family of Denver, Mrs. Eli Fike of Long Beach, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kimber of Hastings, Nebr., Mrs. Verna Kious of Long Beach, Calif., and Charlotte and Carol Brethower. "

1947 Ottumwa, Iowa "Mrs. Verna Kious of Denver and Mrs. Lulu Kimber of Wray, Colo., came Sunday to spend a few days at the J E Zepp and. Fred McCreery homes "

1958 "Holiday guests at the Tony Hagen home are Mrs. Verna Dixon of Denver, daughter of Mrs. Hagen who has been here for the past ten days, and another daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Groseclose and children of Greybull, Wyo., who came Monday and will also visit Mr. Groseclose's mother, Mrs. Ollle Groseclose."

1959 "Houseguests at the Tony Hagen home this week are Mrs. Hagen's children and their families, Recruiter and Mrs. Don Kimber and daughters, Linda, Jeannie and Verna Lou, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Verna Dixon of Denver, who came on Sunday, and Mrs. Lloyd Groseclose and children, LoiDene, Gordon, Jerry, Lora Jean and Marvonne, of Greybull, Wyo., who were met in Cheyenne Tuesday morning by Mr. and Mrs. Hagen. "

1960 " Mr. and Mrs. Tony Hagen left Wednesday, bound for Chattanooga, Tenn., to spend two weeks with Mrs. Hagen’s son and family, Recruiter and Mrs. D. E. Kimber and children"

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, July 1, 1965
"Tony Hagen, one time Holyoke community resident, died last Friday at the Wray hospital where he had been a patient since May 1. Mr. Hagen, age 78, had been in failing health for a year.
Mr. Hagen was born at Peoria, Illinois on May 16, 1887. His first wife, Frieda, passed away in 1944 while they were residents of Holyoke. Prior to that time they lived on a farm located northwest of Holyoke. In 1954 Mr. Hagen was united in marriage with Mrs. Lula Kimber of Wray where he has since made his home. One daughter, Mrs. Rochie (Marjorie) Shaw of Vernell, Utah, survives.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 26 at the Wray Christian church with Lockwood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was made at Holyoke Memorial Park with Lewis Funeral Home directing.
Among those from Holyoke attending the last rites were the Edd Colson, John Alberts and Chester Alberts families."

That's the same plot as her parents Oliver and Clara Brady.

DOROTHEA

1950 "Mrs. Lloyd Groseclose and daughter LoiDene of Greybull, Wyo., accompanied the former’s mother, Mrs. Lulu Kimber, home from Greybull on Tuesday of last week. They will all go to Denver on Friday. Mrs. Groseclose will continue to her home and Mrs. Kimber and Loi Dene and another daughter, Mrs. Verna Kious, will go to Dubuque, la., to visit the Donald Kimbers."

Dorathea Groseclose 1920- is buried in Greybull, Wyoming, per # 109076629, with Lloyd H. 1917-1998.

"Services for Lloyd H. Groseclose, 81, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1431 with Elks ritual officers officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Greybull. Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Greybull Funeral Home and a half hour prior to the services at the Elks Lodge.
He died May 27, 1998, at his residence in Greybull. He was born March 7, 1917, to Arthur and Ollie Groseclose on a farm northeast of Wray, Colo. He received his six years of education in a one-room rural school a few miles from his home. During World War II, he joined the Navy. His enlistment was from January 1942 to November 1945. He married Doratha Kimber on Dec. 19, 1945, at the First Baptist Church in Thermopolis, and they had five children. They moved to Greybull in June 1947, when he began operating the Sinclair Service Station, known as Lloyd's Super Service. In 1955, he and his brother, Guffy, bought and began operating the Greybull Livestock Auction, which was sold after his brother's death. He then became a sheep broker, operating under the name of Lloyd's Buying Service. He was well-known and respected throughout the area.
Survivors include his wife of Greybull; three daughters, Loi Dene Bennewitt of Yuma, Ariz., Lora Ely Whiteman of Littleton, W.Va., and Marvonne Adams of Yuma, Ariz.; a son, Gordon Groseclose of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; two sisters, Annie French of Canada and Ada Walchle of Wray, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Guffy and Edgar; three sisters, Alta, Nellie and Vada; a son, Jerry; a son-in-law and two grandsons."

DONALD

Donald E. Kimber and Alice V. Cordell married in Seattle on August 10, 1946.

1951 "Mrs. Lulu Kimber and daughter, Mrs. Verna Kious of Denver, left Thursday for Dubuque, Iowa, where their son and brother, Don Kimber of the navy, and family reside."

They're in Pensacola, Florida in 1955, San Diego in 1956, and Whittier, California in 1970 and 1973.

Donald Earl Kimber 1920-1997 is buried in Yavapai County, Arizona # 13984777. "U.S. Navy WWII and Korea "

VERNA

"Miss Verna Kimber, Wray High School graduate and a daughter of Mrs. Lulu Kimber of Wray, surprised her friends here when on a visit last Decoration Day she told them of her recent marriage to Mr. Harold Kious, well known young Sterling man. The announcement was a complete surprise to her relatives and friends in Wray. The ceremony occurred at Sidney, Neb., on Saturday, May 25, 1934. Miss Sally Avery, a friend of Miss Kimber, attended the bride and we were unable to learn the name of the groom's attendant. Mrs. Kious graduated from the Wray high school a year ago this spring and for the past several months has been at Sterling where she has been taking a business course. She is popular with the younger set in Wray and her host of friends will wish her happiness in her married life. The groom resides in Sterling with his mother and they will make their home there. Mrs. Kious plans to continue her studies at the business school until the completion of her course."

In 1940 Harold is a warehouse foreman in Sterling, 35, born in Iowa, Verna 25 a retail clerk.

In 1943 they're in Long Beach, California, Harold a shipyard worker for Bethlehem, and they live at 377 Walnut Avenue.

November 1949 "Mrs. Lulu Kimber is a patient at the Greeley hospital where she underwent surgery on Monday of this week. Her daughter, Mrs. Verna Kious of Denver, went to Greeley to be near her mother and a brother fo Mrs. Kimber also resides in Greeley"

Harold Clyde Kious was the son of Adam and Caroline Kious, and was in Sterling in 1920, with Adam L. Kious 55, Ruth C. Kious 49, Ray Kious 21, Harold Kious 15, Virgil Kious 13, and Merrill Kious 10.

Adam 1865-1932 is buried in Sterling # 5460022, with Ruth Caroline (Schwab) Kious 1869-1963 #57968330.
Virgil Kious, born Sep 19, 1906, married Jean Weldon on January 1, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan, died in Volusia County, Florida Deemer 15, 1977.

1962 "Mrs. Don Dixon, who had spent a week at the home of her mother, Mrs. Tony Hagen, returned to her home on Wednesday."

ELLIOT - brother of Lulu.

June 26, 1952 Greeley, Colorado "Ellis Edward Brady, 56, who promoted and started the Greeley speedway, died early Wednesday morning at Weld County Public hospital. He had been active in racing circles until three days ago when he entered the hospital. Mr. Brady resided at 1316 Sixteenth avenue. Born June 9. 1896 at Wray. he married Teressa West in 1916 at Haigler, Neb. He came to Greeley in 1922 from California and was a barber until five years ago when ill health forced him to retire. He was co-proprietor of the Mickish- Brady Barber shop. As a hobby, Mr. Brady owned and raced stock cars at Englewood and Scottsbluff before this track was opened. He was a member of the Christian church and at one time belonged lo the Elks. Besides his wife, survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Roy L. Briggs of Greeley: a son, Dr. Gene L. Brady of Fort Morgan: and a sister, Mrs. Lulu Kimber of Wray. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the funeral home, with interment at Linn Grove.
