One Ancestry submitter said that Henry was born April 18, 1833 in Birmingham, Albany County, New York, and married Mary E Dalrymple February 28, 1861 in Verona Wisconsin. Mary's mother was a Newell, so she was related to the "sod hotel" family as well as the ranching Dalrymples.
Henry registered in June 1863 for the draft in Madison, Pennsylvania.
In 1870 Madison (then Luzerne County) Henry L. 35, Mary #. 24, Orion J. 7, J. May 4, and H. Mirtie 1.
He's definitely the one in Madison, Pennsylvania in 1880, 47, dealer in dry goods and groceries, with Mary E. 35, Orrin J. 18, Ida M. 15, and Iona 13.
Henry tree-claimed a quarter just north of the present Wray airport (the pdf file shows "Garge" , but BLM records have "Gaige".
1899 "Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Gaige arrived early this week from Moscow, Pa., and spent a few days at the Dalrymple home in the sand hills. Mr. Gaige is looking after business interests here. This is Mrs. Gaige's first visit in Wray and she is delighted with the country."
In 1900 Henry L. 66 and Mary E. 46 and Oran I. Gage are still in Madison. Henry a merchant and Oran a clerk.
In 1902 H.L. Gaige was $2.18 delinquent on his taxes.
In 1903 "H. L. Gaige of Moscon, Pa., is looking after his interests here this week."
July 1907 "H.L. Gaige, who lived at Moscow, Pa., and was known to some of our people, died at that place a few days ago after a brief illness. The subject of the above was an uncle of John Dalrymple, who lives north of town."
I am seeking information on the family of Jerome B. Yeager. He was born in June, 1846, I think the son of Henry H. and Mary Yeager, with siblings Angelichor, William, John, Seldon, Martha, and Emma. He married my cousin Harriet E. Dalrymple in 1873 in Wisconsin. I find Jerome and Harriet in the 1880 census living in Madison, PA. (By the way, they are living very close to Henry Gaige who married Harriet's sister Mary, also in Wisconsin.) By 1900 (OH! to have the 1890 census!) Harriet is gone, and I find Jerome still in Madison, PA, but with a different wife, Jennie. Jerome and Jennie then appear in the 1910 census in PA. By 1920 Jennie is gone, and Jerome is married to Anne, and they are still there in 1930. I'm trying to find out what happened to Harriet and if Jerome and Harriet had any children. |
