January 1916 William Jasper Dorman was born near Chesterfield, Macoupin county, Illinois, January 31, 1839, and died at his home in Wray, Colorado, January 15, 1916, age 76 years, ll months and 15 days. April l2, l868, he was married to Miss Martha Stulta, who still survives him.
To this union were born thirteen children. Five daughters and two sons survive the father. They are : Mrs. Ida Rodgers of LaSalle, Colorado; Wm H. Dorman of Vinton, Iowa; A. M. Dorman of Squirrel Creek, Colorado; Mrs. Winnie Dorman of Squirrel Creek, Colorado; Mrs. Minnie Ness of Yuma; Mrs. Cora Lane of Yuma; and Miss Edith Dorman of Wray. The deceased moved from Illinois to Gage county, Nebraska, in 1878 and to Yuma county in 1887. He came direct to Wray and had made his home here since. He resided on his farm just south of town for years but a few years ago he retired and moved to town. He founded Grand View Cemetery in the early days of the town and owned and controlled it until a few years ago when the present association purchased his interests.
In his death, Yuma county loses another pioneer settler and a highly respected citizen. His ideals in citizenship, in home life and social welfare were high. He accepted the faith of the Seventh Day Adventists in 1898 and those who knew him best say that his greatest joy was in helping others learn the truth he loved so well.
He served four years and 4 months in the Civil War, in Company E, Tenth Illinois Cavalry. He enlisted as a private but was advanced to Second Lieutenant. CARD OF THANKS We use this means to thank the people of Wray and vicinity for the many words of sympathy, acts of kindness and untiring? efforts to help and offers of hospitality during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father. Words fail to express our attitude and appreciation of these many kindnesses that help so much to lighten the burden that is so hard to carry at this time. Our hearts were deeply touched with the thoughtfulness of the young people composing the senior class of the Y.C.H.S., in their beautiful floral offering, also those from others. We sorrow, but not as those who have no hope. May the God of love bless and repay each one for every kind act shown us, is our prayer. Martha Dorman and children.
