Amos and brother Cyrus Carl, sister Sarah (Carl) Burrell
Cyrus Carl, son of Samuel Carl and Malinda Reamer, married Jessie H. Roberts, daughter of Thomas Roberts and mother Wilcox, on March 5, 1891 at the residence of the bride.
Jessie was in Jackson County Kansas in 1880, 9, born in Iowa, with Thomas Roberts 32 farming born in Indiana, and Ellen 27 Iowa, and sister Sarah A. 8.
Thomas is buried in Union County, 1847-1912 # 11223826. So is Ellen (Wilcox) Roberts 1852-1941 # 11223828.
In 1860 Perry County, Pennsylvania, Samuel Karl is a laborer, 35, Matilda 28, Wm. 10, John 9, Theodore 8, Sarah C. 12, Philip 4, Abby A. 3, and "Silas" 1.
In 1870 Perry County, Pennsylvania, Samuel Carl is 48, Matilda 38, John 19, Phillip 13, Abbey A. 12, Cyrus 11, Amos 9, Allice 8, and Malinda 5.
1878 "A horse belonging to Samuel Carl, of Juniata twp., broke out ot a stable in Port Royal, on the night of the 26th ult., and strayed away. The owner, whose post office address is Markelvllle, would like information regarding the animal.
(Abby Fosselman born 1858 to Samuel "Corl" and Malinei Ramer, died in Perry County 1937, to be buried in Markelsviille.
(Jessie M. Mocel, born March 10, 1865 to Samuel Carl and Matilda Reamer, died in 1037, to be buried in Markelsville.

AMOS
Amos Carl proved up a quarter in 7, 1S 43W in 1892 - that's about six miles south of Wray.
January 28, 1899 "Every thing at Amos Carl's sale went at top price. As an auctioneer J.J. Grigsby can't be beat."
February 1899 "Amos Carl and John Burrell have bought the Wray Hardware & Furniture Store from M. T. Peck, and will continue the buisness at the old stand. Here' wishing you success, boys."
April 1899 "Mrs. Powell of Haigler has purchased the Grigsby store building now occupied by Carl & Burrell and will
put in a stock of general merchandise. Messrs. Carl & Burrell will move their stock into the Hitchings building."
April 1899 "Carl & Burrell will move into their new stand, the Hitchings building about May 1. "
In 1900 Wray, Amos, born May 1862 in Pennsylvania, is married eight years to Mary A. Sept 1867 Pennsylvania. They haave Earl Feb 1893, Myrtle July 1894, and Ethel Dec 1898, all born in Colorado.
August 1901 "R.A. Campbell of Akron, Ohio, a brother-in-law of Amos Carl, returned home Tuesday after an extended visit here."
June 1903 "Mrs. Amos Carl and children returned to Wray last Thursday after an extended visit to relaties at Akron, Ind."
Amos Carl married Elsie M. Moore December 29, 1908, recorded in Denver. "a childhood fried of Mary's, a registered nurse in Chicago."
"Amos was a surveyer on the cog railroad up Pikes Peak."
July 1909 "Orrel and Myrtle Carl were passengers on No. 12 Wednesday to Sanborn, where they went for a few days visit, with William Brown and family."
In 1910 Wray, Amos is married to Elsie - her first marriage, with the three kids.
July 1915 "Mrs. Amos Carl is enjoying a visit from her mother and sister, Mrs. Mary Moore, of Akron, Ohio, and Miss Sarah Moore, of Loraine, Ohio. These ladies accompanied Miss Myrtle Carl on her return home, and arrived yesterday morning.
Miss Myrtle Carl returned home yesterday morning from Akron, Ohio, whore she has spent tho past ten months in study and business. Miss Myrtle plans to remain at home now for a year or two before resuming her work in the East."
Amos, born May 31, 1861 at Newport, Pennsylvania, and Elsie born July 17, 1871 at Akron, Ohio, went to Hawaii in 1920.
In 1920 San Francisco, Amos is proprietor of a lumber yard, 57, with Elsie M. 48. They're rooming with Emily Jennesson, divorced.
They're back in Wray in 1930, running a lumber yard, and grandsons Richard and Geraldine Bullock are with them.

Amos 1861-1936 is buried in Wray # 17076352. FindaGrave # 94875975 says Mary A. (Kefner / Kepner ) Carl is buried there, too, with his second wife Elsie ((Moore) Carl 1871-1945 # 35188376.

In 1925 San Francisco, Rein Polstra is a laborer, with Ethel living at 2423 California.
In 1930 Marin County, California, Rein Polstra is 45, Ethel M. 31, Erin W. 5.
"Mrs. Ethel Polstra, of Sacramento, California, who was called to Wray by the death of her father, Amos Carl, spent Sunday with her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Piper of Yuma."
"John Kirby and family of Vernon spent Sunday with the G.E. Piper family of Yuma."
In 1940 Elsie is in Wray 69, widowed, with a housekeeper Anna Shuel 26 born in Colorado.

Elizabeth Fitzgerald (1871-1939) married George Walter Snell (the Colorado marriage records
have George W. SUELL, 26, marrying Mary E. Fitzgerald, 21, September 11, 1892,
the ceremony performed by Austin Faher, Catholic priest of Brighton, at Wray.
George and Mary 71053026 are buried in Whitley County, Indiana.

Earl V. Carl married Alta Andrews July 24, 1916, recorded in Yuma County.
Earl Valentine Carl registered for WWI in Wray, born there February 13, 1893, a mahinist, with a wife and child.
Earl and Alta M. Carl divorced in Yuma County in 1920.
In 1930 Tulare County, California, Earl is a tractor machinist, 37, married to Naomi, 31, living with her son Willard G. Ingham 5 and mother Nettie Slaughter.
Naomi is married to H.Lee Martin in 1940, so they must have split.
Earl is divorced in 1940, a carpenter, living in Porterville, Tulare County, rooming with another bachelor.
Earl was on the Tulare County jail register in November 1961, l, ransferred out January 6, 1962 to Vaaville.
Earl V. Carl 1893-1968 is buried in Tulare County, Califronia # 86938579.
January 1913 "Miss Myrtle Carl, who is attending the domestic science department of the State Agricultural College in Ft. Collins, returned to her school work last Sunday."
Myrtle (Carl) Kirby 1894-1930 is buried in Wray, with John Edward Kirby 1897-1959.
Ethel Carl married R. F. Bullock March 19, 1917, recorded in Yuma County.
In 1940 Sacramento, Ethel Polstra is 39, widowed, with son Ryan Polstra, 15, born in California.
Ethel, per $ 94875118, died in Sacramento in 1974, burial unknown.
FindaGrave # 94793104 says Ryan died October 5, 2001 in Sacramento, burial unknown.
CYRUS
Cyrus Carl married Jessie H. Roberts in Union County, Iowa March 6, 1891,
In 1900 Des Moines, Iowa, Cyrus born Dec 1860 in Pennsylvana, Jessie May 1871, and Orel March 1893 Iowa. Cyrus is proprietor of a merchandile store.
May 3, 1907 "Cyrus Carl, brother of Amos Carr, our fellow townsman,
arrived from Iowa last night, and will make Wray his future home.
He expects his family in about two weeks,
when they will occupy the Beckwith brick in the west part of town."
May 10, 1907 "Cyrus Carl, of Percyville, Iowa, a brother of Amos Carl, arrived here last Friday to assist in the Carl hardware store. He began work Monday, taking the place which had up to that time been filled by Lemons Galbreath."
In 1910 Wray, Cyrus is a hardware salesman 51, born in Pennsylvania, living on Kiowa Street with Jesse H. 40 born in Iowa. They've been married 18 years and have Oral A. 16 born in Iowsa

"On Thursday evening, January 18, 1912, occurred the marriage of Mr. Clyde Cox and Miss Orrel Carl. The ceremony was performed by Rev. F. W. Imboden at the Methodist parsonage in Wray. The bride, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Carl, came here with her parents about five years ago and during the time she has lived here has made a host of friends who will be eager to see happiness and prosperity enter the home of which she has become a partner.
The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Cox and has lived in Yuma county for several years mingling with his many friends of which he has no small list.
Mr. and Mrs. Cox will be at home to their friends in the near future on a farm eight miles southeast of Wray which the groom has rented for the coming year.
The Rattler joins their Yuma county friends in wishing them great things in the future."
September 5, 1912 "The death of the father of Mrs. Cyrus Carl, Thomas Roberts, at his home in Afton, Iowa,
occured Saturday afternoon nnd burial was made Monday. Mr. Roberts had been seriously i11 for some time and Mrs. Carl
has spent several weeks at his bed side. She is expected to arrive home Saturday afternoon, after stopping in St. Joe, Missouri, a few days where she is
purchasing the full stock of goods for tho William Busiok store in which businoss sho will resume her old position upon
her return."

March 1916 "Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Carl celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Sunday at their home in East Wray, Those present were their daughter, Mrs. Clyde Cox and family, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Carl and family, Wm. Pyle and daughter, Miss Ethel, and the Misses Leininger and Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Carl were presented with a number of beautiful gifts as remembrances of the occasion."
November 1919 "Mrs. Cyrus Carl departed last Friday for Afton, Iowa, where she will visit her mother and other relatives for a few weeks."

June 1922 "Word received from Mrs. Cyrus Carl, who has been confined to a hosital in Denver following an operation which she underwent a few weeks ago, states that she will be permitted to return to her home here Sunday."
July 1923 " Mrs. Roberts of Creston, Iowa, arrived in Wray Monday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Cyrus Carl. "

SARAH
In 1880 Union County, Iowa, Jacob "Burrel" is farming 31, Sarah 30, with Caroline 11, Margareet 9, and John 6.
In 1900 Yuma County, Jacob Burrell is farming, born March 1848, married 32 years to Sarrah C. Sept 1848 Pen, both born in Pennsylvanai. Rosa M. Feb 1887 was born in COlorado.
July 1907 "John Burrell s residence in south Wray was struck by lightning Sunday afternoon.
Some shingles on the corner of the house were torn off, which was the only damage done.
Mrs. Burrell received a slight shock. "
July 24, 1908 "
Jacob Burrell, one of our old settlers and pioneers, was taken suddenly ill last Friday and died about 4 o'clock
the same afternoon. He had been troubled some with heart disease, but this was not thought to be a particularly serious
attack. Jacob Burrell was born March 23, 1848, in Perry county, Pennsylvania, moved to Iowa in 1878, and thence
to Colorado in 1887, and Yuma county, where he has ever since resided. He was married to Sarah C. Carl Aug. 30, 1868,
who still survives him, together with four children - Mrs. Carolina Brown of Sanborn, Nebr., Margaret Webster and John Burrell of this city and Rosa Piper of Deer Creek, Illinois.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church by Rev. McCulloch, interment in Grandview Cemetery.
Mr. Burrell was a member of, the Lutheran Church. He was known for his happy and cheerful disposition and the community experiences a distinct loss in his death.
December 1909 "S. S. 'Kaul' of New Port, Pa., has been visiting relatives in Wray for the past few days. He is a cousin to Mrs. Jacob Burrell."

Loved ones, friends and old settlers were pained last Friday by the sad news that Mrs. Sarah Burrell,
one of Yuma county's early settlers had suddenly died in Laramer, Iowa, that morning. She was staying at a friend's home,
Mrs. Will Burd, and on Thursday morning she got up and ate breakfast.
After the dishes were washed she complained of feeling tired and started to her bedroom upstairs.
She got to the top when she fell and the occupants hearing her stumble went to her and found her unconscious.
A doctor was called but she never regained consciousness before she died at 1:00 o'clock the next morning.
The doctor pronounced it ptomaine poison, causing a great amount of gas in the stomach, poisoning her whole system.
Mrs. Burrell moved to Yuma county from Iowa in 1886 with her husband, Jacob Burrell, and family and they
homesteaded the farm that is now owned by Jessie Roe, six miles southeast of town
and lived in the county until her husband died four years ago.
In her long residence in Yuma county she made a host of friends as she was loved by all.
She was a sister to Messrs. Amos and Cyrus Carl of this city and mother of Mr. John Burrell and Mrs. C. M. Webster,
who are all well known by almost everyone in the county. Beside these relatives, she leaves two other daughters,
Mrs. W. A. Brown of Sanborn, Nebr., and Mrs. Geo. Piper of Creston, Iowa. Mrs. Brown was unable to attend the funeral on account of sickness, but Mrs. Piper came with the remains which were brought to Wray Sunday for burial.
These sorrowing ones have the deepest sympathy of a multitude of friends.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist church of Wray, Monday, January 29.
Rev. P. W. Imboden delivered the sermon She was laid to rest in the Grandview cemetery.
Obituary
Sarah Katherine Carl was born in Perry county, Pennsylvania, September 4, 1848.
On August 30, 1868, she was married to Jacob Burrell and in 1878 they moved to Iowa. In 1887 they moved to Colorado where they lived until Mr. Burrell's death.
To this union were born three daughters and one son, Mrs. Wm. A. Brown of Sanborn Nebraska, Mrs. C. M. Webster of Wray, Mrs. George Piper of Creston, Iowa, and Mr. John Burrell of Wray.
Mrs. Burrell was converted in girlhood and united with the Lutheran church and in August 1908 she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Wray. She died in Laramer, Iowa, January 26, 1912,
aged 63 years 3 months and 22 days, her death being the first one in a family of ten children.
Margaret Matilda Burrell married Calvin M. Webster December 13, 1892,. Their first three children, Nellie Minerva, Mettie Carl, and Charlie Monroe died with in 1899, Charley in February and the two girls in September..
In 1900, Maggie M. Webster, born Nov 1871 in Pennsylvania, married seven years to Calvin M. Webster Aug 1865 Ohio, have a newborn son born May 1900. Calvin's mother Betsy A. Nov 1831 in Ohio is with them.
