Timothy and Martha Frances (Nestor) Burns, Wray

The Souvenir Edition says that Timothy Burns arrived in Yuma County January 1o6o, 1887. In 1890 Timothy cash-claimed a quarter in 13, 1S 45W (the same year that James L. Brady claimed one in section 12). Timothy proved up a quarter in 24, 1S 45W in 1896 - a little west of Vernon. He timber-claimed a quarter in 11, 2S 45W, also in 1896.
In 1900 Wray precinct, Timothy Burns, born August 1848 in Ireland, married 16 years to Fanner J. Oct 1860 Missouri. She's had ten kids, five living. Nella F. Dec 1886 Nebraska, John Feb 1888 Colorado, Annora Dec 1890 Colorado, Mary April 1893 Colorado, and Margaret Sep 1895 Colorado.
One tree said Timothy was born Aug 10, 1848 in Carlo County, Ireland, and married Martha Frances Nestor Jan 13, 1884 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. It also said her sister Georgia Caroline Nestor, born April 30, 1864 in Linn County Missouri, married James Lawrence Brady November 1883 in Nebraska City.
Nellie Frances Burns 1886-1908 is buried in Wray.
Timothy 1848-1937 # 17076023 and Martha Frances (Nestor) Burns 1860-1945 # 17076990 are buried in Wray. Patrick X. Burns 1898-1937 is buried in Wray.

John C. Burns - 1888-1982 is buried in Wray.
Winnifred M. (Burns) Smith 1895-1981 is buried in Wray, with spouse William John Smith 1894-1960

Cecelia B. Wagoner, 89, of Wood River died Friday, March 22, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Paul Colling will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery west of Wood River. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral home in Wood River. Memorials are suggested to Wood River Community Centennial Foundation.
Mrs. Wagoner was born March 10, 1913, in Yuma County, Colo., to John C. and Lena (Moffitt) Burns. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wray County High School in 1930. She then attended Grand Island Business College. To pay for her education, she worked at Wolbach's Department Store. After finishing her schooling to be a bookkeeper, she continued at Wolbach's. She then worked at Homeowners Loan Corporation and Area Engineers. She typed some of the first vouchers for the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant. During World War II, she was a supervisor of supplies at Grand Island Air Base. She worked at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant during the Korean War. She married Thomas J. Wagoner of Wood River on June 18, 1934, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple lived on the Wagoner family farm outside of Wood River.
She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was chairman for more than 40 years of the St. Mary's Funeral Dinners. She enjoyed preparing the family get togethers, gardening, cooking, handwork, bridge and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Richard Frances of Cairo; Judy Wagoner of Grand Island; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas A. Wagoner and Adele Swihart of Grand Island and Dennis and Jane Wagoner and Daniel and Marlene Wagoner, all of Wood River; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo Burns of St. Joseph, Mo.; and a sister, Cathlyn Bundy of Olney, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, two infant sons, a grandchild and a sister, Vivian Linker.

Leo C. Burns of St. Joseph will celebrate his 90th birthday at a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Friends and relatives are invited. Cards may be sent to the honoree at 5110 Stonecrest Terrace, St. Joseph, MO 64506.
He was born on that date in 1915 in Vernon, Colo., and has resided in St. Joseph since 1960. He is a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army in the European Theater.
He retired from the Belt Supermarket as produce manager and from Heaton-Bowman-Smith Funeral Home. …

Janice E. Hammel, 54, of Lawrenceville, died at her home Monday, December 14, 1992.
Mrs. Hammel was born May 27, 1938 in Wray, Colo., the daughter of Wayne and Cathlyn (Burns) Bundy. She married Otis L. Hammel. Mrs. Hammel was past president of 4 Square Home Extension, past president of Lawrence County Home Extension, past president of Bridgeport Women's Club.
Mrs. Hammel is survived by her husband, Otis Hammel of Lawrenceville; one daughter, Denise Des Jardin of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two sons, Doug Hammel of Mt. Carmel and Dave Hammel of Bridgeport; mother, Cathlyn Bundy of Olney, Illinois.
