June 3, 1905 "James Boyd and Mrs. Smith, the Lady Barber, were arrested Monday by Sheriff Johnson and Marshal Jennings, on information by Boyd's wife from Terre Haute, Ind., on charge of living in open adultery. Mrs. Smith came here about the 10th of January and went to work in Reed's barber shop. Boyd showed up about a week later, and gave it out that his name was Smith, and they passed as husband and wife. It seems as though Boyd kept writing to his wife at Terre Haute, but denied that the Smith woman was with him. Mrs. Boyd became suspicious as they had been quite intimate at Terre Haute, and left there about the same time, and she wrote to the Marshal here, backed up by the Chief of police at Terre Haute, and Sheriff Johnson pinched them. Both plead guilty before Judge Hendrie and begged to be let go and so the Judge taxed them up $15 costs and told them to hit the road on the first train. They left on No. 1 Monday."
