May 1907 Wray " Mr. Waller wishes to announce thru this paper his mistake in thinking young Aspey had taken a pair of shoes from his store and this is an apology, and for the benefit of the man who got a pair of shoes of his wife while he was out, saying he would come in in a few hours and pay for them, If he is alive and will come in he can have his old ones ."

In 1910 Yuma County, Gideon is farming, 54, born in Pennsylvania, Mary A. 45 in Wisconsin. Thelma M. 14 and Clarence 18 in South Dakota, and Gideon 14 in Missouri.

December 1910 "G. P. Aspey of south of Wray has sold his farm to E. M. Cook, one of his neighbors, and will give possession March 1. Mr. Aspey is looking for another place. "

April 1911 "Mrs. G. P. Aspey has five 200 - egg incubators in operation."

March 1912 "G. P. Aspey, the poultryman, is restructuring his brooder by changing the heating pipes. Mr. Aspey is in no hurry to bring out his chicks because of the continued cold weather."

September 1912 "G. P. Aspey of a mile southwest of town will have to buy a larger pair of scales if he is to learn the exact weight of his beets. A 21-lb scale failed to tell the weight of one by considerable and the other crops on his fine farm compare favorably with his beet crop. This includes water melons and chickens."

April 1913 "Bern Aspey, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Aspey of near Laird, returned home after several months spent in Oklahoma."

In 1914 John Gideon Aspey graduated from the eighth grade at Laird.

July 1929 "Mr. and Mrs. Aspey of Oregon former residents of this vicinity came to Wray last Friday for an extended visit with old friends and relatives They have been visiting with their daughter, Mrs. Lee Kellar at Hartman, Colo.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Lamb entertained at Sunday dinner, Mr. G. P. Aspey of Riddle, Ore.. Mr. Avery Kellar and daughter, Miss Esther Kellar of Hartman, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Wesson and daughters Miss Alberta and Eileen, Mrs. Forest Whyte and Mr. and Mrs. James Whyte and children."

In 1930 Riddle Douglas County, Oregon, Gideon P. "Osfey" is 74, Mary A. Osfey 65, Clarance Osfey 36, and Gideon J. Osfey 34.

1935 Riddle, Oregon "Miss Esther Kellar of Hartman, Colorado, arrived here last week and will spend the summer at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Aspey."

In 1935 E. E. Calhoon of Wray traveled to Oregon, and a letter inlcuded "Then we went to Riddle, Ore., visited a week with the G. P. Aspey family. Mr. Aspey is known to most of the Wray and Laird people. Although past 81 years of age, he is very active and going on a mountain climb of about 2 miles and about 1,000 feet elevation, he took the lead and kept calling back to the rest to come on. Mr. Lee Kellar also lives at Riddle, Oregon."

"Gideon P. Aspey, 83, of Riddle, Ore., passed away Oct. 13, 1938 at Sacred Heart hospital at Eugene, Ore. He was a native of Pennsylvania but had lived in Riddle, Ore. many years.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. A. J. Kellar, Hartman, Colo.; G. P. (probably should be "J.") Aspey of Riddle, and B. E. Aspey of Twin Falls, Idaho. Services were conducted by Rev. B. L. Hicks of Riddle on Sunday, Oct. 16 and interment was in Riddle cemetery.
Mr. Aspey and family were residents of Yuma county several years having lived near Wray and also near Laird. The old neighbors and friends here extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones."

March 27, 1943 " Mrs. Jack Selilenker of Polland came down Wednesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Mary Aspey and will remain until Sunday at the home of her brother, Lee Kellar. Bernard Asiey of Twin Falls, Idaho, came the first of the week to be here for the funeral services of his mother, Mrs. Mary Aspey which were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the local cemetery.
Mrs. Aspey, for many years a resident of Riddle, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elva Kellar, at Hartman, Colorado, the remains being sent here to be placed by her husband, G. P. Aspey, who passed away several years ago."

February 1915 " Gid Aspey departed Sunday for Des Moines, Iowa where he will enter a machinists college."

Gideon J. "Aspery" and Alta Moore married on March 27, 1932 in Douglas County, Oregon.

In 1940 Riddle, Gideon is a garage mechanic, 44, born in Missouri, Alta M. his bookkeeper, 33, born in Oregon, with daughter Bertha M. 5 born in Oregon.

November 1944 Riddle "Mayor G. J. Aspey found out how to work up a really burning interest in city politics. After vain attempts to get any one to attend a nominating caucus meeting for city officers, Aspey rang the town fire alarm. As citzens poured madly to the main street to view the fire, he called them in to a nomination meeting."

Slate Of Officers For Coming Year
Riddle Chamber of Commerce held its regular dinner meeting Thursday evening, Dec. 4, at the Guild Hall with 61 in attendance. The meal was prepared by wives of the members with the Mrs. Bertha Mae Aspey, Noma Townsend and Pat Ritzman assisting. G. J. Aspey, president, called the meeting to order following dinner, the first business being the report of the chairman of the nominating committee who submitted the slate of officers for the coming year as Kenneth A. Stuart, president; Don Clark, vice-president; E. Daniels, secretary, and G. J. Aspey and Heinrich Schmidt as directors. "

November 29, 1973 " GID J. ASPEY Roseburg. He lacked only a little over two weeks of attaining the age of 78, his birthdate coming on Dec. 12. He was born to Gideon Peter and Mary Jackson in Weaubleau, Hickory County, Missouri, in 18.."

Alta is buried in Riddle 1907-1982 # 8638109. "Alta Mildred and Gideon John Aspey were married on 27 Mar 1932. They worked together in Riddle at the same garage. He worked as a mechanic and his wife did the bookkeeping. Before their living in Riddle, Oregon, they made their home in Colorado where Gideon worked as a machinist
TURENA

1909 "Bern and Turena Aspey went to John Brown's sale and will visit a few days in that neighborhood."

July 1, 1910 "A very pretty wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Aspey last Sunday, when their daughter Turena was married to Lee Keller of near Wray. The ceremony was witnessed by relatives of the contracting parties and a few close friends. Rev. Scott, pastor of the Methodist church of Vernon, officiating. The happy pair will make their home on a farm south of Wray. Both of these people are well and favorably known, and all join with the Gazette in congratulations and best wishes."

August 1913 "Word was received in Wray last Sunday of the death of Mrs. Lee Keller at Cheney, Washington. The message was received early Sunday morning by C. E. Keller and was to the effect that Mrs. Keller was seriously burned and requested that her mother, Mrs. G. P. Aspey, come to her bedside at once. Mrs. Aspey was preparing to leave that day for her daughter's bedside when a second message was received to the effect that Mrs. Keller was dead and that the body would brought here for burial. There were no details givea as to to the death and its cause further than to say that she was burned. The husband is expected with the body and to hold the funeral tomorrow afternoon at the Christian church. Miss Danßerfield, the pastor, will preach and officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View cemetery. Mr. Keller is the youngest son of C. E. Keller of Wray and Mrs. Keller was the dauprhtor of Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Aspey of Laird. They went to Washington about two years ago. They hal been married about four years. There are no children. The Keller family in Wray received a letter from the deceased dated August 20 after the message conveying the news of her death was received. In it she spoke of plans she and her husband had made to return to this county next winter to visit relatives and friends.
The many friends of the bereaved families sympathize with them in their hour of sorrow. Later: Mr. Kellar arrived in Wray with the remains of his wife yesterday afternoon and the funeral is being held this morning (Thursday) at ten o'clock. The accident which caused the fatal burning was from a lamp which overturned on a hot stove. Mrs. Kellar washing out some clothes after night and a bracket lamp over the stove became detached from the wall and fell onto the stove. The bowl of the lamp broke and the oil was thrown onto the unfortunate woman. In an instant she was a mass of flame and, although Mr. Kellar, who was near, succeeded in getting it out in an apparently short time, she was seriously burned and only lived a few hours. The accident happened about o’clock last Saturday evening. "

March 1919 "Lee Keller and wife, who recently sold their place and stock west of Wray, left Monday morning for Twin Falls, Idaho, where Mr. Keller wil look for a new location. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Kellar wil be sorry to hear they have decided to leave Yuma county

1927 Mrs. Lee Keller of Riddle, Ore., is expected to arrive in Wray this evening to attend the funeral of her father, Charles Deerlan Bolander

1939 "Mrs. Lee Keller of Riddle, Ore., visited her mother. Mrs. Ella Bolander ...spent a few days last week.

ELVA

April 1909 "Mr. Avery Kellar and Miss Elva Aspey were united in marriage at Vernon Sunday, March 28, Rev. David Foreman of the Christian church officiating.
The groom is the oldest son of our townsman, C. E. Kellar, and is a highly respected young man. Since reaching his majority he has been engaged in farming in this community and is considered one of our substantial young farmers. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Aspey, living ten miles south of Wray. She has lived in this community for a number of years and enjoys the esteem of a large circle of friends. This couple has every prospect of a happy, successful life before them. They have gone to housekeeping on the Chas. Kellar farm, south of town."

July 1912 "We are sorry to lose Mr. and Mrs. Avery Kellar from our midst but hope they will prosper elsewhere. Mrs. Kellar is going to visit her mother, Mrs. G. P. Aspey in Laird. Mr. Kellar is undecided as to just what he will do."

In 1930 Hartman, Prowers County, Avery T. Kellar is 46, W. Elva I. Kellar 44, Helen L. Kellar 20, and Esther A. Kellar 19.

1935 Riddle, Oregon "Miss Esther Kellar of Hartman, Colorado, arrived here last week and will spend the summer at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Aspey."

February 1956 "Funeral services were held in the school auditorium at Hartman on Sunday afternoon for Avery Issac Kellar, former Yuma county resident, who died February 2, following a heart attack, at the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Burial was in the Holly cemetery.
Mr. Kellar, son of Addie Virginia and Charles Edward Kellar, was born February 11, 1884, at Pleasant Dale, Neb. When four years old, he moved with his parents to Wray, Colo., where he grew to manhood. He was married to Elva Aspey on March 28, 1909, and to them were born two daughters, Helen Lucille and Esther Addie. He was engaged in farming in this community until 1920 when the family moved to a farm 1 1/2 miles northeast of Hartman. Four years afterward Mr. Kellar purchased the Hartman Blacksmith Shop which he operated until the time of his death. He was a member of the Christian church of Wray and a member of the I.O.O.F. lodges of Wray and Holly for fifty years.
Survivors are his wife Elva his daughters, Helen Kauble of Elk Creek, Mo., and Esther Wright of Hartman, one brother, Lee Kellar of Myrtle Creek, Ore., three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Wessel of Wray, Mrs. Ollie Littlefield of Benkelman, Neb., and Mrs. Blanche Schlenker of Portland, Ore., six grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Attending the services from this community were Mr. and Mrs. Wessel, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon King and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Renzelman, and Mrs. Littlefield of Benkelman."

CLARENCE

Clarence 24, and Vintah I. Allen married in Yuma County on December 17, 1917.

They're in Kimberly, Twin Falls County, Idaho in 1920, Clarnece 25 an auto mechanic, "Vintale" 21 born in Arkansas, father in Indiana, mother in Oklahoma.

July 1922 "Clarence Aspey returned to Wray from Holly the latter part of last week."

Clarence was delinquent on taxes for a small plot in 6, 1N 43W Yuma County in 1925.

In 1930 Idalia precinct, Vintah I. Schafer is 30, with Guy H. Schafer 34, Turena M. 9, and Joe W. 7.

May 1939 "In a double ceremony which took place at the Baptist church at West 42nd avenue in Denver Martin Osmus and Turena Mae Aspey and John Osmus and Miss Maxine Roberts, were united in marriage at 2:30 o'clock on last Saturday afternoon. The single ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Ernest M. Baker in the manse and they were attended by Mrs. John H. Osmus and Mrs. Cora Kemp. Others attending the service were: Miss Esther Osmus, Mrs. L. W. Doty of Greeley, Mr. and Mrs. L. Kemp and son, Robert, of Denver. The bridegrooms are sons of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Osmus of south of Wray. Both young men are well known here and highly respected in this community. They are both of the graduating class of Yuma County High School this year. Miss Roberts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Roberts, is a popular miss of the Vernon community and is also this year a graduate of the Vernon high school.
Miss Aspy. daughter of Mrs. Guy Schafer, was a graduate of the last year's class of the local high school and has this year been studying a beauty course in Denver. The newlyweds have no present plans at this time."

Clarence Aspey, born 7 Nov 1893 in Canova, Miner County, South Dakota, died 15 May 1935 in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon, buried Roseburg National Cemetery Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon, Memorial ID 3885571.

September 1955 "Mrs. Turena Osmus and children of Aurora and Marjorie Stephens of Denver were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Stephens and the William Noels."

January 1957 "Of interest to friends in this community is the pretty holiday wedding which occurred December 23 at the home of Mrs. Grace Wynne, 1545 Holly, Denver, a close friend of the bride, when Turena Osmus of 2300 Moline in Aurora, became the bride of Sgt. Virgil L. Bell, Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. The Wynne home was beautifully decorated with flowers and greens of the Christmas season. Rev. James Farrell read the double ring service at two-thirty. The bride was attended by her aunt, Mrs. Joe Allen, and her daughter, Carol Jean Osmus. She wore a dress of beige lace with orchid accessories and an orchid corsage. The groom was attended by his brother, Glenn Bell, and his bride’s son, Warren Osmus. Joe Allen, uncle of the bride, accompanied her sister, Karen Schafer, when she sang “Love’s Happiness” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Mrs. Bell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Schafer of Idalia and Mr. Bell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bell Sr. of Denver, formerly of Wray. Following the wedding a reception was held for forty close friends and relatives. The couple’s plans are not definite at this time. Mrs. Bell is employed by the Denver schools and will continue her work for the present."

BERN
Bernard E. Aspey was born 17 Feb 1888 in Miner, South Dakota, to Gideon P. Aspey and Mary A. Jackson.

Feb 1908 "Bern Aspey, who has been working near Orchard, Colorado, for the past few months, returned to Wray the latter part of last week and went out to his home south of town."

November 1909 "Bern Aspey has his house on his claim, 12 miles south of Wray, nearly finished."

December 1909 Wray " The snow and ice will be sure to go now, as Avery Kellar and Bern Aspey have gone into the horseshoeing business."

Bernard E. Aspey and Norma E. Mackey, both of Twin Falls Idaho, married in Pocatello, Idaho on October 29, 1926. Witnesses were G. J. Aspey and Jean Barnum.

February 1951 "Mrs. Bern Aspey, 48, of Twin Falls, Idaho, wife of a former Laird resident, was killed instantly in a head-on crash between the automobile driven by her husband and a car driven by Donald Hine, 21, of Filer, Idaho, on Monday, January 22, according to a story in the Twin Falls Times-News. The crash occurred five miles south of Jerome, Idaho. Aspey and Hine were both hospitalized with serious injuries and their condition was reported as critical.
Details of the crash were meager as neither Hine nor Aspey was able to talk with highway patrolmen. Both cars were damaged badly and indications were that the two machines came together head-on. The patrolman said the accident happened on a straight stretch of road and that the highway was in good condition.
Aspey suffered a serious contusion to the chest and lungs and fractures of the right ankle and left knee. Mrs. Aspey was born at Littleton, and moved to Twin Falls with her parents in 1915. She was graduated from Twin Falls high school and was married to Aspey a few years after her graduation. The Aspey family formerly lived on a farm in the Laird vicinity before moving to Idaho."

Norma Ellouise (Mackey) August 26, 1902-January 21, 1951, is buried in Twin Falls, # 147107979. "Her parents were F. W. and Elizabeth E. [McVay] Mackey. Her father was born in Connecticut and her mother was born in Iowa."

Bernard is buried in Twin Falls 1988-1951 # 147107485.


CARL

In 1900 Hickory County, Missouri, Joseph Aspey is 62, Nancy Aspey 50, Neal Aspey 15, and Carl Aspey 12.

"Joseph Aspey b 1838 in PA, married to a Nancy Elizabeth Hawkins, b 12 oct 1850 in wheatland, Hickory, missouri, she died 17 May 1933 in MO, they had 6 children; Allie, Arthur, william, charles, infant (don't know if boy or girl), and joseph Carl Aspey."

May 1906 Yuma, Colorado "Carl Aspey who recently arrived from Old Missou went to Wray Sunday to work for F. D. Johnson."
Aspey, Carl, Birth Date:5 Sep 1887 in Wheatland Missouri, registered for WWI in Gila County, Arizona.

He was on a list of suspected draft deserters in 1922, residing in Miami, Arizona.

NEAL

1913 Akron Colorado "Niel Aspey arrived in Akron Tuesday. He spent several months with his parents in Missouri."

1915 " Neal Aspey is building a house on his homestead, about nine miles east of Akron."

In 1921 Akron "Bailey and Aspey Billiards" was one of the sponsors for a barbecue.

Arthur N. Aspey and Fannie Brunker married in Denver on June 1, 1922.

1922 Akron " Mr. and Mrs. Neal Aspey entertained Miss Ruth Erb for a dinner Saturday. "

In 1910 Akron, on Greeley Avenue, Neal A. Aspey is 25, a farmer, living with the Frank Carr family.

Arthur Neal is with his parents in 1920 Hickory County.

Arthur Neal Aspey, born 23 Jan 1885 in Missouri, died 8 May 1923 in Colorado, buried in the Akron Cemetery Akron, Washington County, Colorado, Bl 3, Section B, Lot 15-3, Sp 6, Memorial ID 70093628.

In 1930 Akron, Fannie is 33, born in Colorado, married to David Lenox 47 Kansas, with David B. 4 adn Susan 3. Joseph Aspey is 7, born in Colorado.
All five are in Akron in 1940, too.

Fannie A. Lenox 1896-1983 is buried in Fort Collins, # 94899960, with David 1882-1975.

Joseph Aspey, born at Akron, residing in Hudson Colorado, died in Brighton on April 11, 2007. He married Jane A. Cunningham on December 25, 1942 in Akron. Children Diana Mitchell, Linda Soehner, Vicki Kinnison, and Joseph Neal and Robert Aspey.
