Larry Clark August 19, 1934 – March 20, 2013 James L. "Larry" Clark
died peacefully in his sleep on March 20, 2013, with his family by
his side. Larry, a Palisade native, and great-grandson of Palisade
pioneers, was an innovative and very successful peach rancher; as
well as the founder of Clark Family Orchards. You could always count
on a colorful wagon, pulled with his huge draft horses, dressed in
beautiful harnesses, and filled with family, waving to the crowds at
every Palisade parade, and several other parades and events
throughout the Valley. Larry made sure that free rides were offered
to everyone, especially during the spring blossom time of year. Each
Spring, Larry would harness up the horses and mules to plow his
tomato patch with his antique farm implements which he collected
throughout his lifetime. A visit to the ranch would allow you to
enjoy this collection as well as his extensive collection of antique
buggies and wagons. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. Every
fall he, his father, sons, and friends, would pack up the horses and
mules and head to the hills for two weeks of glorious color,
camaraderie, and sport. As a child, everyone in the family worked on
the ranch, and the minute there was a break in the work, the family
would all head to Grand Mesa to spend time in the family cabin and
fish South Mesa and Lost Lakes for the tasty brookie and rainbow
trout. What a glorious time that was! For years, Larry attended the
National Western Stock Show, and showed his animals, as well as
perform in various events. Larry was born August 19, 1934, to Jamie
and Lois Clark in the ranch house where he lived, until he began
farming on his own. Back in those days, the family doctor, Dr.
Wideline and his nurse, Fairy Ryan, attended the birth. He grew up
in Palisade, surrounded by five great-grandparents, the first James
A. and Phoebe Clark, George and Emma Hoffman, and William Maurer,
and grandparents, A. G. and Emma Tilton, and Levi and Hazel Clark,
as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Clark family
settled in Palisade, in the late 1800's. Taylor Elementary School is
located on a parcel of the original ranch. Larry graduated from
Palisade High School, in 1952 and shortly began his farming career.
January 1, 1953, he married Maxine Lundgren. They had three sons,
Steve, Bruce, and Dermis. They divorced, in 1989. Larry later
married Marjorie Downey-Feugate, and enjoyed time with her three
children, Don Feugate, Tara Feugate-Slone, and Cheryl Feugate-Fife.
After Marjorie's death, in later years, Larry, and his companion,
Gloria Tappan, enjoyed many trips around the United States and
Europe. Larry always enjoyed life, and lived with a positive
outlook. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, he continued to
make plans for the coming years. Larry was a lifetime member of the
Elks Lodge, # 575, the Western Colorado Horticulture Society,
the Moose Lodge, 567, and served on numerous boards involved with
horses, mules, and the peach industry. Larry's parents, Jamie and
Lois Clark, preceded him in death, as well as his wife, Marjorie. He
is survived by his three sons, Steve Clark of Palisade, CO; Bruce
(Jan) Clark of Redmond, OR, and Dennis (Staci) Clark of Palisade,
CO; brother, Mickey (Lila) Clark of Victorville, CA, and sister,
Sylvia Morrison of Grand Junction; nine grandchildren, Levi, Zack,
and Jessica Clark, Josh, Kaleb, Dakota, and Colton Clark, Makenzie
and Courtney Clark, and three great-grandchildren. Larry will be
missed by all of us. We are grateful for all the years we had
together. His service will be Friday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m., at the
Palisade United Methodist Church. Services are entrusted to Palisade
Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The
