George M. Hitt, 33, born in Henry County, Iowa to Thadeus and Barbara Hitt, married Addie Z. Porter on 31 Oct 1900 in Lexington, Nebraska.

In 1902 Holyoke, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Hitt, along with Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Goddard and five other, gave a dinner set as a wedding gift to the Holmes and Chaney wedding.

February 1902 " Mr. and Mrs. Munson Hitt went to Eustlce. Nebraska. Wednesday night to attend the funeral services ot Mrs. Hitt's brother. John Porter. "

September 1902 "Mrs. Edith Porter returned recently from Cozad, Nebr., where she has resided for some time, and will make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Munson Hitt. "

April 1909 " Mrs. Kerr who had been for a few months visiting with her grand-daughter, Mrs. G. M. Hitt of Holyoke, left Tuesday for Curtis where she is making her home with the family of John Crowner."

"Clara Pendelton chose the teaching profession and taught school in the Haxtun and Holyoke area where she met Cliff Goddard who was a member of the school board. Their friendship increased and they were married on December 24, 1914 in the G.M. Hitt home.

August 1920 "James L. Porter and family are visiting at the home of G. M. Hitt. They are from Gothenburg, Nebraska and Mr. Porter is a brother-in-law of Mr. Hitt. "

November 1921 "Mr. and Mrs. Jim Porter of Paoli, were Sunday dinner guests of his sister, Mrs. G. M. Hitt, and family. "

G. M. (Munce) Hitt passed away at his farm home near Holyoke Saturday morning, April 5, 1947, after being an invalid for a period of 15 years. In April of 1932, he suffered a stroke and has been partially paralyzed since that time.
Mr. Hitt came to Holyoke in the spring of 1886, 18 months before the town of Holyoke was founded, where he engaged in ranching, farming and auctioneering. He started auctioneering in 1903, which he practiced until the time of his illness in 1932. In 1906 he was elected sheriff of Phillips County, which office he held for two terms. In 1911 he returned to the farm where he engaged in farming and ranching.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 8, at the Methodist Church in Holyoke, with Rev. Louis Haruf officiating. Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. A. H. Beal, pianist, and Mrs. C.R. Smythe, soloist. Pallbearers were Henry Hageman, John Hageman, Herb Miller, Paul Clements, George Miller, and Vern Miller. Burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery.
Out of town people attending the services were Grover Ferrell, Lamar, Nebraska, a distant relative of Mr. Hitt, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schultz of Imperial, Nebraska, Mr. Glen Goddard of Julesburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Goddard of Haxtun.
George Munson Hitt, son of Thadious and Rachel Hitt, was born October 15, 1867 at New London, Iowa. At the time of his death he was 80 years, 5 months, 21 days old.
He came to Holyoke from New London, Iowa in the spring of 1886, and on October 31, 1900 he was married to Miss Addie Porter at Lexington, Nebraska.
They moved to their present home where they have resided since.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Hitt, one son, Alva J. of Holyoke, two daughters, Mrs. Agness Fiedler and Fern Nelson of Denver. Four grandchildren, George F. Fiedler, Mrs. Jean Pugh, Lavonne Nelson and Joann Nelson and Joann Hitt. He was preceded in death by one son, Donal Frederick, in 1933, and a daughter, Edna Elizabeth in 1944.

Mrs. Addie Hitt, a pioneer resident of the Holyoke community, passed away early last Thursday, September 4, 1958, at the Phillips County Hospital where she had been a patient after suffering a heart attack on September 1. Mrs. Hitt, who was 78 years of age, spent most of her life in this community.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. J. Hubert Wubben officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. The Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
As Addie Z. Porter, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newell Porter, Mrs. Hitt was born in Edinburg, Pennsylvania, on September 14, 1878. She came to Colorado by covered wagon with her parents when 4 years of age and Mr. and Mrs. Porter settled on a homestead northwest of Holyoke.
This was about 18 months before the town of Holyoke was founded. At that time supplies for the family were hauled by wagon from Julesburg which had the nearest railroad. When Mrs. Hitt was 11 years old her mother died and her Grandmother Kerr helped Mr. Porter in rearing the children. Mr. Porter was a charter member of the Holyoke Methodist church.
When 21 years of age Mrs. Hitt moved to her own homestead five miles west and two miles north of Holyoke. About a year later, on October 31, 1900, she was united in marriage to G.M. Hitt and they continued to live northwest of town. Mr. Hitt was Phillips County sheriff from 1904 until 1910.
To this union were born five children, two of whom, Donal and Edna, preceded their mother in death, as did Mr. Hitt. Surviving are one son, Alva, Holyoke, with whom Mrs. Hitt made her home for a number of years; two daughters, Mrs. Fern Cuno and Mrs. Agnes Fiedler, both of Denver; one brother, J. L. Porter, Stockton, California, three sisters, Mrs. Mable Kimberley, Gardena, California, Mrs. Edith Walker, Cozad, Nebraska, and Mrs. Pearl Crowner, Blue Springs, Nebraska, four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Hitt loved flowers and enjoyed working in her garden and yard. She was a member of the Beachville club and the Holyoke Guild club.

DONAL

February 23, 1933 "Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the G.M. Hitt home northwest of Holyoke for Donal Hitt, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Hitt, who died Sunday after having lain in a helpless condition since September 24 when his back was broken when a tree fell on him at Merriman, Nebraska. Rev. R.R. Pfeiffer, former pastor of the Grace English Lutheran church of Holyoke, officiated, and burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery.
Donal Frederick Hitt was born at Holyoke October 22, 1901, and attended the grade and high schools in and near Holyoke. He worked at home on the farm until 1926 when he went to Fleming to work in a hardware store. He was married to Irma Ard of Fleming June 2, 1927, and the couple lived for several years north of Holyoke, removing in March 1932 to a ranch ten miles south of Merriman, Nebraska.
There he met with the accident that had since rendered him helpless, when a tree which he was cutting on the ranch fell on him. After a trip to Omaha for medical aid he was brought to the family home where he had since been confined.
Mr. Hitt is survived by his widow, two daughters, Betty Jean and Jo Ann, his parents, a brother, Alvin, and three sisters, Mrs. W. H. Fiedler, Mrs. Leland Nelson and Mrs. Eddie Randolph."

ALVA
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 24, 1978, at the United Methodist Church in Holyoke for Alva J. Hitt, 74, who passed away Saturday, October 21 at Logan County Hospital in Sterling.
Rev. Eldon Shoemaker, minister of the church, officiated at the services. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Alva J. Hitt, son of George "Munce" and Addie Porter Hitt, was born in Holyoke on November 29, 1903.
Alva received his schooling in the Holyoke schools, spending the remainder of his life farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donal Hitt; three sisters, Agnes, Fern and Edna.
He is survived by a nephew, George Fiedler, Haxtun; three nieces, Mrs. Jean Hammond, Northglenn; Miss La Vonne Nelsen, Denver, Mrs. Jo Ann Yeager, Phoenix, Arizona and many friends.

AGNES

Agnes Hitt, 19, married William H. Fiedler on 27 Jun 1926 in Holyoke, Colorado.

In 1930 Holyoke, William H. Fiedler is 38 Head, Agnes Fiedler 23 Wife, and George T. Fiedler 2 Son.

In 1940 Holyoke, George F. Fiedler 13 is living with his uncle Alva J. Hitt.

William Henry Fiedler registered for WWII in Denver, born Sept 3, 1891 in Wyoming, Iowa, living with Agnes at 1617 Humboldt in Denver.

In 1947 Denver, Wm. H. is a shipping clerk, with Marie at 1701 Emerson .

Agnes Fiedler, born July 20, 1906, died in July 1976, last residence Haxtun, Colorado.

EDNA

Edna Hitt and Clayton Goddard married on 13 Oct 1938 in Sedgwick County, Colorado.
Edna Goddard Lawrence, born 22 Sep 1913 in Colorado, died 26 Jun 1944 in San Francisco, Mother's Maiden Name: Porter, Father's Surname: Hitt.

In 1942 San Francisco, Clay Henry Lawrence registered for WWII, born Sept 13, 1903 in Brooklyn, NY. His reference was Edna Lawrence of the same address, 760 Geary.

"Edna Lawrence, 31, a waitress, leaped to her death early today from the seventh floor of a hotel on Geary Street in San Francisco. She left no note. Her husband Henry C. Lawrence, a bartender, who lives at 760 Geary Street, told police that his wife had threatened suicide several times."

Clayton Lige Goddard, 88, of Colusa, California, died May 31, 2002, at Valley West Care Center in Williams.
Born in Chase, Neb., he was a Mid-Valley resident for 40 years. He was involved in farming and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Colusa. He was also a member of the American Legion, Jefferson L. Winn Post No. 98 of Princeton.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving various citations and medals, and serving under Gen. George S. Patton in seven campaigns in Africa and all throughout Europe from 1941 to 1945...
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cleo Goddard, Clifford Goddard and Clarence Goddard; and a sister Opal Nerenberg..."

He was living in Holyoke in 1948, according to his father's obituary.
