Henry and Fannie E (Walter) Bernhardt
Henry was born in 1882 and died in 1948. One tree says he was the son of Frederick G.A. Bernhardt, who arrived in 1884 from Germany. Siblings listed in the tree are Doris 1885, Ann 1887, John George Fred 1889, Martha Marie 1891-1961, Elizabeth 1894, George H. 1898 and Eva 1901-1981
They're in Knox County, Nebraska in 1910, where "Mrs. Fred" is 54, widowed. She has Henry, Dora, Anna, John, Maria, Lizzie, George, and Eva.

Funeral Services Held Thursday for Mrs. Fannie Bernhardt
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist church for Mrs.
Fannie Bernhardt, who passed away July 6, following a long illness.
Rev. John Richards of Paoli and Rev. George M. Burnworth were in charge of the
services. Music was furnished by John Buck, organist, and a mixed quartet
composed of Mrs. Theodore O'Neal, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, Henry Schmidt and
Clyde Sperber. Pallbearers were Robert Harding, Joseph Janosec, W.J. Powell,
C.A. Bates, Frank Lett and Theodore O'Neal.
The following obituary was read at the services.
"Mrs. Fannie Walter Bernhardt, daughter of Joseph and Klotilda Hampl Walter, was
born March 1, 1882, at Council Bluffs, Iowa.
"She received her earlier education in the West Blyville public schools and
later attended the Teacher's college at Wayne, Nebraska. Seven years of her life
were spent as a teacher in the public schools of Knox County, Nebraska.
"On August 15, 1906, she was united in marriage to Henry Bernhardt. They were
the parents of one son, Walter Elhart Bernhardt.
"They lived on a farm northeast of Bloomfield, Nebraska for about a year before
coming to Colorado. They took up a homestead five miles east and three miles
north of Haxtun in 1908, (in section 8 of 8N 46W) where they lived until 1920.
Two years were then spent in Haxtun before they moved, in 1922, to their farm
purchased the previous year in the Wages community. In 1936 they moved again to
Haxtun and after two years returned to the Wages community, where they resided
on the farm now owned by Elmer Monk and later on the farm now in the possession
of Parker Newbanks. Mr. Bernhardt passed away on January 15, 1948, and his widow
returned to Haxtun in 1949, where she has maintained her residence ever since.
"Mrs. Bernhardt was a member of the Haxtun Methodist church since 1915.
"She departed this life about 6:35 a.m. Monday, July 6, 1953, while a patient at
the Haxtun hospital, at the age of 71 years, four months and five days.
"She is survived by her son, Walter E. Bernhardt of Yuma; and three grandsons,
Clark, Kenneth and Leonard Bernhardt. Also by two brothers: George L. and Joseph
V. Walter, both of Crofton, Nebraska.

June Ruth Bernhardt passed away on March 13, 2006, at the age of 93.
She was born June 22, 1914, the daughter of Miles and Mary (Eberline) Clark on a
homestead near Clarkville.
The 1922 atlas has M.N. Clark, farmer with a Haxtun address, arrived Yuma
County 1910, born Kansas 1884, married Mary Eberline, five children.
Ruth attended Pleasant Hill Grade School and Waverly High School. She married
Walt Bernhardt on January 30, 1935 in Sterling. They moved to a farm near Wages,
where they lived until moving to Wray in 1956. They then purchased the 4-U Motel
in 1961. Ruth worked hard renting, cleaning rooms, doing laundry and keeping
everything neat. Ruth and Walt looked forward to their annual trips to visit
friends and family.
After Walt's death, Ruth operated the motel until 1992, when she sold it and
moved to Wray Ven Manor. She enjoyed attending functions and traveling with
friends and family. She never missed a birthday or anniversary card or family
reunion, and she volunteered at the 55 and Over Center as often as possible. She
was very compassionate and made crafts for special occasions and Christmas gifts
for others.
Survivors include sons, Clark and wife Mary, Julesburg, Kenneth and wife Maria,
Tucson, Arizona, and Leonard and wife Cookie, Atlanta, Georgia; and a sister,
Marie Korf, Yuma. Ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive her.
Funeral services were held at the Wray United Methodist Church on Friday, March
17, with Rev. Norman Stott officiating. Internment was made in the Haxtun
Cemetery, with Reverend Kristy Firme officiating. Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.
| Mary Alice Bernhardt, 69, of Julesburg
entered eternal life on July 31, 2009 in Julesburg, CO with her family
by her side. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday August 5, 2009 at
10:00AM at the United Methodist Church in Julesburg, CO with Pastor
Kristie Firme and Pastor Art Roth officiating. Interment will follow in
Hillside Cemetery, Julesburg, CO. Mary was born in Sterling, CO on April 16, 1940 to Ted and Laura Sindt. Mary graduated from Peetz High School in 1958. She then attended Colorado State University where she earned a degree in business. She Married Clark Bernhardt on June 11, 1961. Mary worked at Wesco Fabric Company for 12 years in Denver, CO. In March of1972 Mary and Clark moved to Julesburg and purchased and ran Pioneer Auto Supply. Together they operated the store for 28 years. She then went to work at the Sedgwick County assisted living center until her illness forced her retirement. Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She spent many years on local bowling teams on Tuesday nights. She was an avid reader, which peaked her interest in becoming a member of the library board. She was a member or volunteer of many organizations including BPW, Lions Club, Hippodrome Art Center, Historical Society Board, Co-Ne Credit Union Advisory Board and Finance committee at her church. Mary was preceded in death by her Mother and Father and an infant son. Mary is survived by her husband Clark, her brother Lew of Peetz, CO, and sister Bette and husband Royal of Kimball, NE, son Craig and wife Tiffany of Julesburg, daughter Belinda and husband Chip of Riverview, FL, and son Brian of Julesburg. Mary was blessed by her 6 grandchildren; Elizabeth, Shawn, Marcus, Aaron and Allie Rai Bernhardt along with Chase Davis. She also has extended famliy and was a friend to everyone throughout the entire area. Memorials can be made to the Mary A. Bernhardt memorial fund C/O Clark Bernhardt 807 Sycamore St Julesburg, CO 80737. Memorial Contributions will be divided between Gateway Medical Foundation, Hospice, Sedgwick County Cancer Support Group, and the Julesburg United Methodist Church.
