In 1880 Steuben County, Indiana James H. Slick is 29, Sarah 28, with Chancey ten months, and nephew Freeman Showalter , 3.
James proved up a quarter in 10, 1S 44W in 1894 - a few miles north of Vernon.
In 1900 Glendale precinct James H. Slick, born Feb 1851 in Indiana, and Sarah Mrch 1852 Ohio, have been married 24 years. They have Chauncey A. Aug 1879 and Carrie B. August 1885, both Indiana.
Mattie F. Newell is in Pulaski County, Kentucky in 1900, born February 1864, no occupation, with father Samuel Newell Jan 1822 and Elizabeth Oct 1832, both Kentucky.
Lincoln County, Kentucky Courier-Journal February 1908 "James H. Slick, of Wray, Col., a widower of 56, and Miss Mattie Katherine Newell, were married at Mr. I.G. Jones' Saturday."

In 1910 Vernon precinct James H. Slick, 59, Indiana and Martha 46, Kentucky are farming - they've been married only two years. Stella Sisson, 26, born in Virginia, is a school teacher boarding with them.
James and Mattie are living on Hayes Street in Wray in 1920, living alone, no occupations.
In 1930 Mattie K. is 66, widowed, living in Wray with her sister Lucile D. Newell, 52, both born in Kentucky.

Wray Rattler – 3-5-1914 Mrs. Slick Sent To Sanitarium – The trial of Mrs. J.H.
Slick, whose mind became deranged the first part of last month, was held
Saturday at the Slick home in West Wray as the afflicted lady was not able to be
taken to the courthouse. The jury found her insane and she was committed to
Work's sanatorium at Pueblo, with the privilege of being taken to the St. Lukes'
hospital at Denver for observation. She was taken to Denver the first of the
week by Undersheriff Johnson, accompanied by Dr. McGill, and Mrs. Mary
Staininger as lady attendant. She was taken to the hospital in Denver and after
an examination was operated upon and there is strong hopes for the recovery of
her health and also her normal mental condition. Mrs. Slick became deranged the
second of February last, while driving in the country with her husband, and her
physical exertions on that day during her violence prostrated her and she has
been very ill ever since. Complaint was filed the day following derangement, but
the trial was postponed because of her physical condition. She will remain in
the hospital at Denver until the results of the operation have been ascertained.
CHAUNCEY
In 1910 Wray Chauncey is running a general store, living on Pawnee Street with Lura L. 27, born in Texas, and Dina M. 7, Gay L. 3 and Orville J. 1, all three born in Colorado.
In 1920 Park County, Wyoming Chauncey A. is 40, farming, Leota L. 39, Berdina 16, Faye 12, Orville 10, Mary 7, and Laverne 2.
In 1930 Corvallis, Oregon Chauncey is a tinner in a plumbing shop, and Leota is a cook in a restaurant. Dena has no occupation , Faye is a waitress in the lunch counter, Orville works at a lumber mill, and Mary, Laverne, and Erma 7 have no occupation.
In 1940 Corvallis Chauncey runs a plumbing shop, Leota is at home, Dena is a butter wrapper in a creamery, LaVerne is a baker, and Erma has no occupation.
Chauncey died in Benton County Oregon March 1, 1969. 96755328
