December 30, 1915 " Uncle John Kline died Wednesday morning at two o clock, after an illness of over a year.
He was born November 19, 1841, in the state of Pennsylvania.
He enlisted when a young man in one of his home state regiments
and served with distinction throughout the Civil war.
He came to Colorado a number of years ago and took a homestead in
the sand hills, and some years later married Susan Shiveley
who survives him. They lived on her homestead eight miles from
Happyville until about a year ago when he became ill. They then moved to Vernon that he might have better care. He has been bedfast almost the whole time. Uncle John had many personal friends that will mourn his departure from the scenes of this earthly strife, many comrades who answered with him, Lincoln's call for volunteers and who
stood shoulder to shoulder with him upon many battlefields,
stand today with bared heads as taps are being sounded and the soul of their comrade bids them a last good night and passes to the Great Beyond
in response to that reveille, that sooner or later will call us all to the great unknown. May his soul rest in peaceful repose after these seventy-four years
of usefulness upon earth. His remains will be laid to rest today in the Glendale cemetery."
