Frank A. (Edith) Bireley is a greaseman for Western Slope Auto Company in 1937 Grand Junction, living at 360 Teller. That's the same address as Arthur D.,
a machinist for the Denver and Rio Grande Railway.
Frank A. Bireley married Edythe Wilson on August 22, 1938 in Eagle County, Colorado.
In 1940 Grand Junction, Frank A. is a service station attendant, 34, Edythe M. 27, born in Washington.
Wilmington, Delaware 1944 "The civilian experts said
the job would take two weeks but two New Castle Army Air
Base sergeants, both engineers, who knew how much the ship
was needed, had her in the air again in two days.
The two 2nd Ferrying Group men were called in recently
when a Military Air Transport ship suffered a burned-out
wiring system, from the outside current plug-in to the
junction box in the fuselage. Staff Sgt. Robert Hendy and
Staff Sgt. Frank A. Bireley, engineers for M-A-T,
toiled 15 hours a day until the repair job was finished,
because they knew that ship had to fly as soon as
possible. Civilian electricians at Newark. N. J.
where the trouble arose, said it would take three
days to get the parts and two weeks to fix the
plane. M-A-T couldn't wait so the sergeants were
flown to Newark to look the plane over,
decide what could be done. Back they went to
New Castle Army Air Base for the necessary parts.
Then, armed with tools, spare parts,
a quantity of knowledge about the C-47 and an
eagerness to get the plane back on flying status,
they started to work. Two days later the plane
was in the air and ready to carry vital cargo
on the domestic "emergency air freight line." "
