In 1880 Mercer County, Missouri, James Laughlin is farming, 37, with Louisa 25, Edna 5, Willard nine months. Louisa's sister Charlotte Evans, 21 is with them. Next household is Milton 59 and Sarah 60 Laughlin, with Mrietta 21 and Samuel 19.


"Louisa Josephine Evans was born 25 Aug. 1854 in Woodland Township, Iowa to Robert Colville Evans and Elizabeth (Sherod) Evans. Louisa married James Harve Laughlin (1850-1933) on May 21, 1874 in Mercer County, Missouri. Their children were: Edna Leona (Laughlin) Meade (1875-1958), Willard M. Laughlin (1879-1918), and Cloyd Earl Laughlin (1892-1956).
Louisa was the first wife of James Harve Laughlin. After Louisa died, James married Florence Irene (Hall) Laughlin (1866-1937) in 1906. "
In 1910 Wayne County, Iowa James H. Laughlin is farming, 59, born in Missouri married four years to Florence 42 born in Iowa - second marriage for both. Earl C. is 18, born in Missouri.


Born November 25, 1850 in Mercer County Missouri, died August 3, 1933 in Kirk, Yuma County, Colorado. He immigrated to Colorado abt. 1909.

After the death of Willard LAUGHLIN in 1918 all with the exception of James Harve LAUGHLIN emmigrated to Hutchinson, Reno County, KS.

March 1913 "A deal was closed this week by Fred P. Watts of Kirk precinct wherein Mrs. Sarah Brothers sold her quarter of land in the southwest part of the county to W. A. Laughlin of Lineville, Missouri, for $1,250. Mr. Laughlin is a man of considerable means and he is negotiating for other land in the south part of the county."

November 1928 "Grandpa Laughlin was taken seriously ill last Tuesday night and had to be taken to Denver to the hospital, Earl Loughlin and Grandma Laughlin went along with him. He is reported to be much better at this writing."

April 1936 "Dr. Blanchard took Mrs. Florence Laughlin to a hospital at Sterling Sunday. Mrs. Laughlin has been in poor health the past few months, and confined to her bed eight weeks. Mrs. Grace Meade went to Sterling with Mrs. Laughlin. "

June 1936 "Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Laughlin and children of Nampa, Ida., and the lady's sister and husband of Caldwell, Ida., were visiting relatives including the former's mother, Mrs. Dora Morgan of Hutchinson, Kan., who, along with the Laughlins, arrived here early Sunday morning for a visit with Mrs. Florence Laughlin and other relatives and friends. Grandma Laughlin has not been so well again the past week."
"Mrs. Ellen Clayton is staying at the Laughlin home helping care for Mrs. Laughlin."

July 1936 "Cloyd Laughlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Laughlin, is here visiting his sister, Miss Marjorie Laughlin, Grandma Laughlin and other relatives here. The Earl Laughlin family at one time owned the property now owned and occupied by the C. R. Darling family, but moved to Mountain Home, Ark., some seven or eight years ago. Cloyd came as far as Amarillo, Tex., in a car with friends and then the rest of the way by train. He expects to stay until the middle of August. "

Willard 1879-1918 is buried in Kirk, and his wife Dora Rambo Laughlin Morgan 1887-1969 is buried in Hutchinson, Kansas, with her second husband James R. Morgan 1874-1962.

In 1920 Dora is in Hutchinson, Kansas, 36, with Clifford 15, Olen 11, and Sarah Rambo 52.

CLOYD
The marriage ceremony of Earl Laughlin and Miss Bernice Porter occurred in Wray last evening. The groom is the son of J. A. Laughlin, who recently purchased the Oscar Givens farm in Kirk precinct, and the bride is the sister of Mrs. O. G. Criss of Idalia precinct. The groom has been a resident of the county but a month and came here from Missouri. The bride has been making her home with her sister for about a year. They will make their home on the Givens place. The wedding party were brought to Wray in the Chas. Ingalls automobile..

Cloyd Earl Laughlin registered for WWI in Kirk, married with two children, farming, born March 26, 1892 at Linville, Missouri.

1927 "Earl Laughlin returned home Sunday from Pampa Texas where he has been working the past ten weeks."

In 1930 Mountain Home, Cloyd is a carpenter, 3, Bernice 36, Josephine 16, Howard 14, Cllyde 12, Marjorie 8, Harold 6, and Dorothy 4.

July 1936 "Cloyd Laughlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Laughlin, is here visiting his sister, Miss Marjorie Laughlin, Grandma Laughlin and other relatives here. 1938 "Relatives of Cloyd Laughlin, a former Kirk boy, had a letter stating he was recently married at his home near Mountain Home, Arkansas."

In 1940 Mountain Home, Cloyd is a road construction foreman, 47, Bernice 46 born in Kansas, Harold Jason 16 and Dorothy 13 both born in Colorado.
J. Howard Laughlin is the next household, 24, born in Colorado, with wife Mary 16 born inb Arkansas.

Bernice Irene Laughlin, born Nov 11, 1893 in Malvern Kansas, died January 4, 1980 in Odessa Texas. Her father was Edwin Porter, mother Indiana Maine Jumper. Sibling was Mildred Okeson.
She's buried in Barton County, Kansas # 8512648.

Josephine Marie "Mimi" Baker died Thursday (April 17, 1997) at Baxter County Regional Hospital. She was 82. Mrs. Baker was born July 5, 1914, in Kirk, Colo., to Cloyde Earl and Bernice Irene Porter Laughlin. She married Oscar E. Baker in Mountain Home on Feb. 2, 1936. She had worked in the Mooney and Tipton drug stores in the 1940s and 1950s here. She was a gourmet cook who won many ribbons, including blue ribbons, at the Baxter County Fair. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She is survived by a stepson, Dr. Robert L. Baker of Mountain Home; a stepdaughter, Nina Baker Harris of Mountain Home; a brother, Cloyde Laughlin of Great Bend, Kan.; two sisters, Marjorie Laughlin Scott of Mountain Home and Dorothy Laughlin Harrison of Odessa, Texas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. The Rev. Lee Nirschl will officiate at the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Mountain Home Cemetery.

"Dorothy Irene Harrison, 76, died Oct. 24, 2002 at Medical Center Hospital of Odessa. She was born July 5, 1926 in Kirk, Colo., the daughter of Cloyd Earl and Bernice Irene Porter Laughlin. She married James Cecil Harrison Sr. April 13, 1950 in Medicine Lodge. Mrs. Harrison was a member of the Christian Church, teaching Sunday School and serving as the church organist. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and Den Leader Trainer. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, James Cecil Harrison Jr. and Timothy Earl Harrison, both of Odessa; two daughters, Theresa Maine Smith of Odessa and Rev. Ola Irene Harrison of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Cloyd Orrin Laughlin of Great Bend; one sister, Marjorie Lois Laughlin Scott of Mountain Home, Ark.; six grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two infant children, three brothers, and one sister. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bethany Christian Church with the Revs. Robert Scofield and George Randall officiating."

"Cloyde O. Laughlin, 86, of Great Bend, died Oct. 1, 2004 at his residence. He was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Kirk, Colo., the son of Cloyde Earl and Berniece Porter Laughlin. He married Lavella M. Kramer Jan. 29, 1949, at Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1949, he was a carpenter for Harper Builders, retiring in 1982.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Patria Johnson of Great Bend and Susan Gray of Radium; one sister, Marjorie Scott of Mountain Home, Ark.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Laughlin and Harold Laughlin; and two sisters, Marie Baker and Dorothy Harrison.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Golden Belt cemetery in Great Bend, with the Rev. John Grummon officiating.
