In 1870 Pennsylvania Geo 52 - here saying they were born in Wurtenberg - and Marya 44 have only Jno 19, Saml 14, and George 12.
Samuel L. Kern married Susan Wooldridge June 6, 1880 in Knox County, Ohio.

In 1885 Madison County Iowa George "Koon" is 62, Mary 60, Mollie 24, Nettie
22. That sure matches the stone in Winterset cemetery of Geo Koon - July
20, 1822- April 8, 1903 and Mary A. Koon March 14, 1824- Feb 9, 1907.

In 1900 Boone County Missouri, Samuel B., farmer, 45 and Susie 44 have
Charles B. 18, a farm laborer.
1909 "Sam Kern and family, of Kirk, visited in Wray this week."
"Rev. Kern will preach every Sunday after Sunday School closes."
"Mrs. S.B. Kern is to start for Centralia, Mo., Aug 4, while there she will
attend camp-meeting of the Holiness Church at College Mound."
Chas. Kern is putting down a well as his former one has caved in. Mr.
Packer is doing the work."
In 1910 Kirk precinct Samuel B., born in Pennsylvania, and Susan Kern,
born in Ohio, both 54, are farming. With them is his mother Mary Kern, 80,
born in Pennsylvania.
On the same census page is Charles B. Kern, 25, born in Missouri, single.
November 1910 Kirk items "Charles Kern was a visitor at the Weaver home
Sunday."
Also in the Kirk 1910 census is Alpha M. Miller, 18, oldest of nine kids of
Charles J. and Lena R. Miller
Mary cash-claimed a quarter in 28, 4S 47W in 1910, witnesses Walter Clark,
George Wilson, Ida Clark and Charles Kingey, all of Fox, Colorado.
Charles proved up a quarter in 34, 4S 47W in 1912.
Next to Charles in section 35, 4S 47W, Samuel proved up a quarter, also
in 1912.
1914 "Sam Kern preached in the New Hope school house Sunday."

In 1920 Samuel B. and Susanna, both 64, are in Lane County Oregon, no
occupation.

LEADER IN CHURCH WORK
Samuel B. Kern, well known resident of this city for many years and prominent in religious circles, died at his home here Tuesday morning at the age of 69 years. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the chapel, with Pastor D. S. Forrester, of the Free Methodist church, and Pastor J.H. Ebert, of the Methodist church, officiating.
The body will be taken to the old home, Kirk, Colo. for interment.
Mr. Kern was born in Pennsylvania January 22, 1855. He came to Cottage Grove about 14 years ago. The first wife died here a year and a half ago. The widow by a recent marriage survives and Charles Kern, of Kirk, Colorado is a surviving son.

APPENDICITIS OPERATION
Mrs. S. B. Kern died Saturday morning about 3 o'clock in a Eugene hospital where she underwent an operation for appendicitis the day before. Mrs. Kern was 69 years of age. Besides the husband, she leaves a son who resides in Colorado. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 from the chapel, Rev. D. S. Forrester, pastor of the Free Methodist church in charge. The body was sent to Colorado for interment, accompanied by the son who was here for the funeral.

The Kern Farm - the old milk house by the windmill was still standing in 1970. My mother said the house had a trap door at the top (maybe roof) that her father would have to go through when there was a blizzard. He had to shovel the snow to get to the animals in the barn.

is Helen Kern, my mother, the older girl whose face is hidden in
the oldest daughter, Bertha Kern, the boy to the right is Lee Kern,
the boy to the left on the horse is Olen, and I am not sure about
the other two boys. One is probably Eldridge.

Three of the Kern kids are in the 1931 Kirk annual.
Lewis Kern, born and died January 2, 1914, is buried in New Hope, Joes. One
tree says he was Charles' son.
1916 "Charlie Kern had the misfortune of smashing the front end of his new
Overland car up in pretty bad shape by running into a horse Saturday on his way
home from Wray."
In 1920 Charles is in Cheyenne County, Colorado, married to Alpha B. Kern,
28, Kansas. They have Bertha M. 9, born in Missouri, Archie 2 and Lee T.
one month, both born in Colorado.
In 1930 Charles and Alpha are back in Kirk, with Bertha E. 15, Archie B. 12,
Lee F. 10, Helen S. 8, Eldredge C. 6, Olen B. 4, and Leo D. 2.

Bertha E. (Kern) Malone, born Dec 8, 1914 in Kirk, married Clarence L. Malone
in 1945, and died Aug 23, 2000 - buried in Mount Pleasant, Crawford County,
Illinois.
"Bertha E. Malone, 85, of Casey died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday
(Aug. 23, 2000) at the Simple Blessings Senior Living Center. The funeral will
be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Markwell and Son Funeral Home in Casey with the
Rev. Terry Blanchard officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery,
Annapolis Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Kirk, Colo., the daughter of Charles B. and Alpha Miller Kern. She married Clarence Malone in 1945; he survives. Other survivors include three brothers, Lee Kern of Mount Vernon, Mo., Eldridge Kern of Prescott, Ariz., and Leo Kern of Dennison, Texas; two sisters, Fern Taylor of Grand Rapids, Mich, and Marie Scott of Springfield, Mo., and one grandchild."
Helen (Kern) Harrington, born Jan 1, 1922, married Willie Mack Harrington,
died in Stanley County North Carolina Dec 20, 1992 at her home., buried at

Lewis Kern, born and died January 2, 1914, is buried in New Hope, Joes.
C.B. Kern, unknown birth and death dates, is buried in the Kirk cemetery.
Eldredge C. Kern 1924-2005 served in WWII Navy, buried in Phoenix, # 36500831.
"Eldridge C. Kern Sr. of Prescott, Ariz., went to be with the Lord on March 17th, 2005.
He was 81 years old. El was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
El is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (BB); son Eldridge Jr. (Sonny); daughter Janet (Jan);
brother Leo of Denison, Texas; sister Mary Marie Scott of Springfield, Mo.; and sister Fern Taylor of Grand Rapids, Mich. El was a special GGP (Great Grandpa) and has 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who will miss all the fun times and practical jokes and stories. El was a wonderful Christian man serving his church in many capacities. He has attended the Free Methodist Church in Prescott for the last 17 years. "

"Mary Marie (Kern) Scott, age 77, died peacefully in her home in Springfield, Missouri,
and went to be with her Lord on March 28, 2008. She is survived by one son, Gary Gene Scott,
of Defuniak, Florida; one grandson, Mikey (Scott) Watts, of Springfield, Missouri; one sister,
Fern (Arthur) Taylor, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one brother, Leo (Alice) Kern, of Denison, Texas; a much loved brother-in-law, Marlin Scott, of Springfield, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Lois Kern, of Mt. Vernon, Barbara Kern, of Prescott, Arizona, and Shirley Kern, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Scott; her mother and father, Alpha and Charles Kern; four brothers, Archie, Lee, Olen, and Eldridge; and two sisters, Bertha, and Helen. Mary Marie was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), and for the past six years, was taken care of by a kind and loving caregiver, Linda Hudspeth. Mary Marie was a member of the Nazarene Church in Springfield and retired from Lily Tulip Cup in December 1997, after 44 years. Funeral services will be held in the Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 West Battlefield, on March 31, 2008, at 1 p.m., with Marie's brother-in-law, Rev. Arthur Taylor, officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral service, and burial will be at National Cemetery in Springfield. "

" Leo Dale Kern, age 85, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
Mr. Kern was born March 28, 1928 in Kirk, Colorado to Charles and Alpha (Miller) Kern. Two and a half years later the family moved to Garrison, Missouri. He graduated from high school in Rogers, Arkansas.
Leo served in the U.S. Army and came to work in Denison in 1960 as a Head Mechanic for Levi Strauss and was later promoted to Maintenance and Building Manger. He retired in 1984 after 25 years of service. Shortly after retiring, he went to work for Bulk Pack Inc. He was employed there until 1998.
Leo married Alice Fisher Anderson in January 1972 in Durant, Oklahoma.
Mr. Kern is survived by his loving family, wife of 42 years, Alice Kern, sister, Fern Taylor, daughters, Yvonne Fitzgerald, La Donna Kern, Mona Nelson, Rhonda Rose, Patty Johnston and Robin Kern, sons, Dwan, Christopher, Kirk, Mike, and Ronny Kern, step-son, Keith Anderson, 28 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, Lee, Archie, Eldridge and Olen Kern, sisters, Bertha Malone, Marie Scott and Helen Harrington, and two sons, Dwan Dale and Danny Kern.
Leo loved to hunt with his sons, and they would all like to think that he is on the hunt of a lifetime with Mr. Frank Holder in the Kingdom of Heaven. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
