Lewis L. and Jessie (Crear) Jones, Kirk


Jessie's parents were Ella S. Crear born 1866 buried in Phillips County, Kansas # 101387307, and Charles R. Crear 1858-1922 # 101387297.

In 1900 Norton County, Kansas, Charles Crear, born May 1861 in Massachusetts, is farming, married eleven years to Ella S. June 1866 Illinois. Gertrude S. is 10, Charlie J. 7, Jessie R. and Jennie R. both Febraury 1896, and Maude 1, all kids born in Kansas.

In 1910 Charles and Ella have Jennie and Jessie, 14, Maude 10, Josie 8, Homer 6, and Mary 1.

In 1915 Charles and Ella have Maude 16, Jocie 12, Homer 11, and Mary 6.
Jennie is a waiter in a retaurant in Norton County.
Lewis L. Jones registered for WWI in Wellington Kansas, a student born in Wellington May 14, 1891, single.
In 1920 Norton County, Lenora township, "Lester" L. Jones is a day laborer, 28, Jessie 24, LeRoy 4, Leonard (Robert L.) 3, and Delfina 1 born in Nebraska (Delfina Mable).

In 1930 Yuma County, Lewis L. Jones is a painter 39, married at age 24, with Jessie 34, Leroy A. 14, Robert L. 12, Melba 11, Rosemary (Evelyn) 8, and Jeanette L. 5, all born in Kansas, except Melba in Nebraska.
1936 Harry Jones and Dutch Jones went to Norton, Kansas, to see their mother who is quite ill. Harry had recently returned from a hospital and was hardly able to make the trip.

The FindaGrave entry # 47613555 and tombstone say that Louis L. Jones 1890-1936, died in 1936, but Jessie's obituary said he died in 1937.

"Dutch" Jones, son of Mrs. Maggie Jones of Lenora died at a hospital in Yuma, Colorado last Thursday from a prolonged illness.

Mr. Jones had been suffering from kidney trouble and complications since Christmas and passed away in Yuma on Thursday of last week. He leaves to mourn his passing of the immediate family, his wife, and six children, three girls and three boys.

Mr. Jones grew to manhood in the Lenora community and his many friends here will regret to learn of his death.

Mr. and Mrs. George Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Montra Jones, and Mrs. Lillian Van Meter motored to Kirk to attend the funeral. The body was laid to rest at Kirk, Colorado.

November 16, 1939 "Mrs. Jessie Jones is quite ill with a heart ailment. Her daughter, Delphina, came down from Denver to care for her. Both of her sons came home to be with her."

Jessie R. Jones 1896-1939 is buried in Kirk # 47613576.


HARRY (Buddy)

In 1940 Harry D. Jones is 9, a lodger with Roland/Robert Pound 25 and Lucile 21 in Yuma County.
Possibly he was adopted by the Pounds

Jeanette Jones of Kirk graduated from the eighth grade in May 1939.

In 1940 Jeanette is living with Gordon Craig 36 and Edythe 36 and their son Gordon Jr. 16. Gordon's cousin WSalter Scott 81 is with them.
A cousin Max K. Toland 19 born in Kansas is with them.
The census has Jeannette L. 15, as a lodger born in Texas.

In September 1940 Jeanette, from Kirk, Colorado, enrolled as a sophomore in the Steamboat Springs schools. Harry Jones enrolled in the third grade.


LEROY

Roy 1915-1943 has a marker in the Kirk cemetery # 12186202.

EVELYN

In 1940 Denver, Evelyn is a patient at Florence Crittenden Home in Denver, 18 - she was in Kirk Colorado in 1935.

She is not likely the Evelyn Jones, an Eckley teacher, who married David Glenn, Jr. in October 1946.

MELBA

In 1940 Denver, Melba D. is 21, born in Nebraska, married to Ernest R. Irish, 30 born in Colorado.

Ernest was in Phillips County, Colorado in 1910, five months old, with Alton H. 29 and Martha L. 32.

One tree said they had David LeRoy Irish and Charlotte Ann Irish.

In 1948 Denver, Ernest R. (Melba D.) is a molder at an iron foundry, and they live at 4328 Milwaukee.

Ernest L. Irish and Audrey L. Irish divorced in Colorado Springs in 1972.

Ernest L. Irish is a dentist in 1961 Denver.
In 1966 Denver, there's an Ernest L. Irish (Mildred A.) at 2169 E. Floyd Rodad, a dentist.
There's also an Ernest R. at 3806 Gilpin, a laborer.
E. Roy Irish 1909-1969 is buried in Wheat Ridge, Colorado # 98927563. The marker says "Brother" - so he and Melba might have separated.

Roy's parents Alton 1881-1937 and Martha Lavina (Davis) Irish are buried in Smith County, Kansas.
The Alton H. and Martha Irish family were living in Cope, Colorado when their young son, Ray Henry Irish, died. Cemetery records list Ray as buried here at Cope Cemetery.
Ray was also born in Colorado. Ray 1908-1916 is buried in Cope, # 159059666.

After Ray died, his family moved away, which is a very common occurrence when a child dies -- the family goes elsewhere.


ROBERT

Ruth Spencer married Robert L. Jones November 14, 1936, recorded in Moffat County, Colorado.

In 1940 Routt County, Leonard is a truck driver, 28, (in Kirk Colorado in 1935), with Ruth J. 19 born in Colorado. Peggy Jean is 2, and Robert L. newborn.
Ruth is the Ruth Spencer in 1930 Routt County, with farming parents Joseph 35 born in Nebraska and Emmaline 32 born in Colorado.
Robert Leonard Jones was called up for induction in Steamboat Springs in 1945.

1951 Steamboat Springs " Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jones and children of Boise, Idaho, visited with relatives and friends here last week. Mrs. Jones is the former Ruth Spencer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Spencer."

Ruth Jeannette Jones 1920-2001 is buried in Boise, # 27448403.

So is Robert Leonard Jones, but the marker has 1916-1984 # 27448361.


Robert L. Jones Jr. 1940-1987 is also buried in Boise # 64433882.

One tree said Peggy Jean Jones was born December 20, 1937, Robert March 12 1940, Vicki Rae Jones August 23, 1947, and Monty WSayne Jones June 9, 1947.
