In 1885 Carl Guess is with parents Fred 40 and Eliza 30 in Osage County, Kansas. Clarence is 11, Earnest 9, Laura 7, Calvin 4, Carl3, and a baby girl.
In 1900 Osage County, Fred born April 1844 in Germany, married 27 years to Eliza A. June 1853 Iowa , Carl Feb 1882, Nora March 1885, Oscar Dec 1886, Fred Jr. Nov 1891, and Orville March 1894, all kids born in Kansas.

In 1920 Cheyenne County, Kansas, C. H. Gurss, born in Kansas is farming with Mabel C. , born in Ohio, both 38. Albert is 8, Orvil 2, both born in Kansas.

In 1930 they're in Yuma County, Colorado, Joes precinct, with just the two sons and a servant, Reba Spurling, 18 born in Missouri.

August 20, 1931 "Mrs. Crammer, who has had charge of the household duties at the C.H. Gurss ranch, returned to her home at St. Francis, Kansas, and Miss Anne Wyatt has taken her place at the ranch."

Carl is widowed in 1940 Yuma County, farming with Orville, 24. Anna E. Wyatt is 68, a housekeeper.


Carl was in a rest home in St. Francis, Kansas in the 1950's and is bureid in Osage County, 1882-1959, per # 18949706.
Mabel C. Gurss is also buried there, per # 18950903, 1881-1931.

Winnie Nikkel Gurss's obituary is in the Burlington Record of May 13, 1976, age 84.

Alfred Harold Gurss 1911-1988 is buried in Kirk, # 67354480, with Opal Frances 1914-1996, # 67354481.

Orville Earl Gurss was born April 5, 1917 at St. Francis Kansas to Carl H. Gurss and Mabel C. Couchman, dying Sept 27, 2000, buried in Kirk, Colorado.
Orville "Jiggs" is buried in Kirk # 67354428.

LLOYD

 Velma Lela Viola McDaniel born July 14, 1910, married Lloyd Gurss September 29, 1925, died 1971.  They're buried in Yuma - Velma 1910-1981 # 49997131 and Loyd E. 1900-1975 # 49997357


Velma was the daughter of Viola (Lydiatt)(McDaniel) Littell, buried in Yuma # 60544845.

In 1880 Osage County, on the same page as the Gurss family, Theodore Gifford and Louzia are farming, both 29 born in Indiana. Lillie M. 5 and David A. 4 both born in Indiana, Theodore E. 2 in Illinois, and Hettie B. nine months in Kansas.

In 1900 Osage County, Ernest is farming born June 1875, married three years to Bell H. Oct 1879. Lilliam Sept 1898, all born in Kansws.

In 1910 Osage County, they have Lillian 12, Lloyd 10, and Orma 3.

In 1915 Waubansee County, they're living with the Caroline Schulta 64 and Carl Schultz 24, E. Gurss is 39, Belle 35, Lillian 16, Loyd 14, Erma 8.

Ernest registered for WWI in St. Francis, Kansas, born June 27, 1875, working at Jaqua.
In 1920 Yuma County, Ernest is farming, 42, Belle 40, Loyd E. 19, Orma 13, and Mildred L. 4.

They're farming in Yuma County in 1930, with Mildred 14 and Ruth V. 9.

Lillian (Gerse) Scheller, per # 72188728, is buried in Greeley 1905-1985, with Harold Christian Scheller 1901-1947.



November 27, 1936 Greeley "Of interest to their many Weld friends are details of the marriage of Miss Mildred Gurss of Kersey and Henry Estrick, of Greeley, which was solemnized in Meridian, Ida., on Nov. 20. The single ring service was read at 6:30 in the evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Goodell, the Rev. Lines, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. The bride was gowned in a pretty, floor-length frock of royal blue velvet, with which she used silver accessories. As matron of honor, Mrs. Goodell wore a frock of apricot colored taffeta, with white accessories. Alva Goodall was groomsman. Pink and white appointments were used in all wedding details. Following the ceremony, a delicious, three course dinner was served. Large and daintily decorated bride's cake formed the centerpiece. Mrs. Estrick is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gurss of Haigler, Nebr. and was graduated from the Kersey high school in 1935. Mr. Estrick, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Estrick of near Greeley, has made his home near Meridian, Ida., for several years. He is a well known farmer in that community. The couple will live at Meridian.

In 1940 Ada County, Idaho, Henry, born in Russia, has his own income, 29, Mildred 24.
They're in Boise in 1953 and 1958 - no address or occupation.

With the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Estrick of Meridian, Idaho, all the children of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Estrick of 401 Thirteenth street were present Sunday for a family get-together. The group had dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Estrick, south of Ray Reed's corner. Present were the Jacob Estricks and their six sons and one daughter.
Carl Esterick, Alec, Henry, Philip, Harry and Jake Estrick Jr. and Mrs. Wallace (Mary) Moore and their families.
All of the children reside in the Greeley area except Henry, who owns a dairy farm at Meridian. The Henry Estricks have resided at Meridian since "iXX. They have one son, Vaughn, who is a senior at Meridian high. He did not accompany his parents to Colorado. The couple first went to Wray to attend the sixtieth wedding an niversary celebration of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gurss. Mrs. Estrick Is the former Mildred Gurss. They arrived at Wray Nov. 14 and the anniversary party was Nov. 17. They came to Greeley Friday and are staying at the home of his parents. The Estricks were also there in October, 1953 when his parents observed their golden wedding anniversary.
They plan to leave for Idaho Wednesday.

August 1966 Idaho "Mr. and Mrs. William Bonnicksen and Belle of Greeley, Colo., brought Mrs. Bonnicksen's mother, Mrs. Lillian Scheller, to Meridian to be the houseguest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Estrick. "

1938 Greeley, Colorado "Ernest Gurss of Wray returned to her home Saturday after spending three weeks at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Scheller and family."

Pauline Bonnicksen, 86, of Greeley died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 at North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley.
She was born July 16, 1919, in St. Francis, Kan., to Harold and Lillian (Gurss) Scheller.
On May 21, 1939, she married William "Bill" Bonnicksen in Greeley. He died Jan. 9, 1993.
Mrs. Bonnicksen attended Kersey High School. She worked at Weld County General Hospital, now NCMC, for 31 years. She retired from the hospital July 16, 1987. She enjoyed dancing and watching and attending sporting events. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Evans Senior Center. Each Tuesday at the center was the highlight of her week.
Mrs. Bonnicksen was a member of First Christian Church, Evans Senior Center, Amico Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2121, Greeley.
Survivors are a daughter, Beth Bonnicksen and spouse Keith Arbogast of Boulder; a brother, Ernest Scheller of Cortez; three grandchildren, Heather Ginther of Fort Lupton, Misty Vurciaga of Thornton and Tony DuCros of Arvada; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley Vurciaga, Demetrios Vurciaga, Greyson Vurciaga, Hailey Torrez, Phoenix Ginther and Jaden Torrez.
In addition to her husband, her parents are deceased.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Adamson Memorial Downtown Chapel. Interment will be in Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley.

Funeral Held For Malheur County Leader

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 for Alva Platte Goodell, Malheur county commissioner, who died at his home Thursday night following a heart attack. He was 61.
Goodell had lived in this community for the past 20 years and was a prominent rancher and farmer. He was serving his third term as county commissioner. Goodell was a veteran of the first World War and captain of the state guard in World War ll. He had been a member of the American Legion for 35 years. He was a member of the Malheur Pomona Grange an officer of the Oregon Trail Grange, a past member of the Elks and a member of the Knife and Fork club. Goodell had served on the Malheur County Fair Board and was a member of the Owyhee Riding club.
Mr. Goodell was born Jan. 22, 1895, in Heigler, Nebr., and was married to Orma Gurss in 1925 in Wray, Colo. He was a member of the Methodist church.
He is survived by his widow Orma of Nyssa; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Cleaver of Nyssa; a son Alva Jr., also of Nyssa; five grandsons; two brothers, Charles of Iowa and William of California; two sisters, Mrs. Leslie Topliff of Nyssa and Miss Elizabeth Goodell of Emmett, Idaho.
Services were held in Lienkaemper's Chapel in Nyssa with Rev. Paul Ludlow of the Methodist church officiating. Interment was at the Nyssa cemetery with the concluding services conducted by the Nyssa American Legion.
Honorary pall bearers were men who had served with him in the county administration. They included Judge G. Y. Chester, A. L. Hammack, Don C. Hosler, John Koopman, John Elfering, George Van Horn, William Leggitt, Harry Sackett, Taylor Sandivgan, Carl Sperling and Judge Lloyd Rae.

Ruth had married George Brethauer, and they're in Weld County in 1940. George is 20, Ruthe 19.
