Yuma County Pioneer Photographs:

C. Roy Getman, 79, of Kit Carson, died October 12, 2013 at the Clear Creek Care Center in Westminster.

Roy was born December 26, 1933 in Kirk, Colorado to Clarence “Guy” and Stella (Long) Getman. After graduating from Kit Carson high school in 1951, he enlisted in the Navy and spent his time enlisted as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he took up truck driving. He hauled everything from furniture to swinging meat and all over the United States. He was a Peterbilt and Kenworth fan, and loved to personalize and add as many lights as he could on his trucks. He also enjoyed reading, especially science fiction, western and military books. He watched many old western movies including his favorite, John Wayne. He was very fond of his hometown of Kit Carson and moved back after retiring from driving. He was a volunteer at the Kit Carson museum and was an active member of the Kit Carson V.F.W.

Roy is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Shawn) Blair of Arvada, Clarinda (Dave) Jobes of Mesa, Arizona, and Kim (Lou) Bergeron of Tempe, Arizona. A son Chris Getman of Longmont, and his brother Omer Getman of Montecito, California. Five grandchildren, Erin (John Lawrence) Brachtenbach, Shawntel (Joe) Carito, Morgan (Jim) Bischoff, Paul Gasser and Tyler Blair. Three great-grandchildren Madison Lawrence, and Jayse and Lonna Bischoff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Eileen Jones.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday November 29, 2013 at the Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Chapel in Longmont with military honors rendered by the American Legion post 32 of Longmont. A reception will follow at the Elk’s Lodge, 306 Coffman St., Longmont.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Roy’s memory to the People First Hospice c/o Howe Mortuary.
