The last week has taken its toll of older settlers in this region. On Thursday, death stuck quickly to take away Alfred E. Brown, who had been cared for many months by his son, Webster, and his wife at Joes. Mr. Brown was also an early settler in this section of Colorado and was respected by all who knew him. He was past 86 years old and had been in poor health for many months. Every care was given him by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Addie Brown, but he suffered greatly from a heart ailment, and nothing that loving hands could do was enough to keep him longer. Funeral services were held at the Cope church at 2 p.m. Monday, and he was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Cope cemetery. He leaves a host of relatives besides legions of friends to mourn his passing.

Those here from a distance to attend the funeral of Mr. Brown were Private Lureston [Laureston] Brown of Camp Carson, Mrs. Anna Long of Denver, and Pat Brown, a son, from Arkansas.
