Ingalls family, Idalia

Nathaniel W. Ingalls, November 22, 1826 - June 16, 1892 - is buried in the Lucas Cemetery near Idalia. "Nathaniel was born at Charlestown, Massachusetts. Nathaniel lived in Kansas but was visiting Ingalls relatives in Idalia, Colorado when he passed away. In 1880 Charles is with Nathaniel and Elizabeth M. Ingalls in Tremont, Tazewell County, Illinois. He has sisters Lucy F. 19 and Nellie K., 16.
Charles E. Ingalls married Bertha W. Wieting March 20, 1887 in Tazewell County, Illinois.
According to Jerry Wilcoxen, Charles and Bertha's grandson in Colorado, as told to Mary Hart in February 2013, Charles came west from Tazewell to Colorado on a train known as the "Immigration Train."
Bertha was honored as the nation's oldest homesteader in a Colorado Springs Gazette article. provided by the family.
They're near Idalia in 1900, with Dwight M. 11, Walter 9, Clarence 7, Katherine 5, Fred 3, and Kenneth 1.
Charles' homestead in section 34, 4S 45W, was proved up in 1893 - a year after next-door Hosea E. Hoover. and neighbor Belle C. Dudgeon
Charles proved up a quarter in 1920 (rather late) in Section 31, 3S 45W, joining state land along the Arickaree.
Dwight was born September 6, 1888, and married Sophia Brinkhoff January 9, 1910. He proved up a quarter in section 21, 4S 45W - about five miles north of Charles - in 1915, and another quarter in Section 10 in 1920.
ELSIE INGALLS
Dallas Riedesel wrote that on the back "Louise Pitts Conrad and Katie Ingalls taken at Fox Ranch."
Katherine M. Ingalls, age 15 in 1910, is with Charles E. and Bertha M. Ingalls near Idalia. with ten siblings.
Katherine married "I. J." Wilcoxen April 8, 1914.
In 1920 she's married to Thomas Wilcoxen near Idalia, and has two children. They had four kids in 1930, still near Idalia. Katherine died in 1978 and is buried in Yuma County.
In 1920 Charles and Bertha are in the Idalia precinct. They have Fred, 23, Marie 19, Wilson 15, Verne 13, Mark 11, Ralph 10, and Elsie 7. So the photo must have been taken about 1914-1915.
The 1920 atlas has Charles with the southwest quarter of 34, Fred the northwest, and Charles with two quarters across the road.
Charles and Bertha are alone in 1930 Wray, where Charles drives a drag on the highway. (must be to smooth gravel roads). They're in Colorado Springs in 1940, saying they were in Wray in 1935.
In 1930 Elsie R. Ingalls 18, is a soda clerk in a drugstore in Colorado Springs, living with brother Mark 22 and his wife Clare 26. Mark is a truck driver, Clare manages a grocery store. Clarence E., 38, and carpenter, and Bertha E. are the household preceding, with Floyd W. 4 and Alma D. 2. Bertha's widowed mother Lena Bader, 61, New Jersey, is with Clarence's family.

California Death Index has Elsie Rose McCurdy, born February 28, 1912 in Colorado, dying January 2, 1983 in Orange County. Father's surname was Ingalls, mother's Weiting.
Walter E. Ingalls and Addie T. Jackson married February 24, 1915, and proved up two quarters in 5S 45W - just south of Charles - in 1917
Walter Ellwood Ingalls registered for WWI in Idalia, saying he was born June 28, 1890 in Idalia. He has a wife and child.
In 1920 Idalia Walter and Addie, 22, have Philip 4, Mildred 2, and Dallas 1. William Alfred Jackson, 26, brother-in-law, is lviing with them.
In 1930 they've added Ruth W. 10, Lois J. 8, and Walter E. 1.
In 1940 Idalia they still have Dallas, 21 and "Junior" 11.
Walter - 1890 - 1992 - and Addie Tressa Ingalls 1898 - 1985 are buried in the Lucas Cemetery near Idalia.
Clarence died April 23, 1971 in Colorado Springs. - C.E. Ingalls
married Bertha Bader November 28, 1917.. and proved up a quarter about
three miles north of Charles in 1921. Funeral services for Clarence E.

Fred Leigh Ingalls registered for WWI, living in Idalia, saying he was born December 23, 1898 in Wray.
In 1930 he's in Kirk precinct, married to Gladys F. 24., and in Joes in 1940 - probably the same farm.....
In 1955 Colorado Springs Fred, a warehouseman for Simpson & Co., live at 622 Cooper Avwenue.
Mrs. Bertha Ingalls lives at 315A E. Willamette Avenue
Clarence, a foreman for Teats Construction Co, and Bertha E. live at 802 E. Cimarron.
Fred and Susan E. live at 718 N. Pine.
Mark T is a shipping clerk, and he and Leora D. live at 632 N. Limit.
Kenneth Lester Ingalls, with an address of Idalia, registered for WWI, saying he was born November 14, 1898, and was a laborer for the CB&Q in Frontier County, Nebraska.
In 1940 it looks like he's a section laborer in Cameron, Douglas County Washington, single.
And a stone in Hominy, Oklahoma has Kenneth L. Ingalls - November 14, 1898 - September 27, 1978 788564
Wilson L. Ingalls married Gunyide Nutter in Colorado August 28, 1926.
Wilson I. Ingalls is in North Platte, Nebraska in 1930, 25 a salesman for a wholesale grocery, married to Ganylde A. Ingalls, 35. Earl R. Nutter, 13, stepson, is with them.
In 1932 North Platte he's a policeman.
SSDI has him born November 21, 1904, and dying August 14, 1989 - last residence of Hominy, Oklahoma.
Verne G. is in Idalia in 1930, married to Velma E. 20. They have an eight-month-old son Jackie J.
In 1940 he's a mechanic in Wray. They've added Phyllis J. 9, Jimmie J. 7, and Joyce D. 5.
Verne -September 11, 1906 -September 18, 1968 - and Velma E October 17, 1910 - October 1998 are buried in North Platte.

Mark married Clare B. Walker - daughter of William T. and Hannah Linton JONES. Walker married April 24, 1894 in Brooke, West Virginia. - who were in Wray in 1920.
The license says Mark Theodore Ingalls and Bertha Clare Walker, July 16, 1928.
SSDI has him born February 15, 1908, and dying January 1968 - last address Colorado Springs.
There's a Clare Walker GEE born August 27, 1901 in West Virginia, dying August 18, 1980 in Marin County, California. Mother's maiden name Jones, father's surname Walker.
