Thomas and Malinda Jane (Laird) Shadley

February 19, 1915 Bert Shadley went to Akron Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Rcss spent Sunday at Ray McFarlin's. Omar Massek and Harry Shadley went to Akron Monday. Joe Plummer has returned home aftsr a week ’ s visit in Nebraska. William Taylor was seen in Akron Monday and Tuesday of last week

C. L. Shadley called at the William Taylor ranch Sunday afternoon. H. C. Shadley and H. W. Shadley visited Bert Shadley’ s, near Prairie. Bert Shadley, wife and baby were visiting at H. C. Shadley ’ s Friday. The Charley Potters and Miss Eunice Potter spent last week at Ft. Morgan. The dance at A. A. Massek's Saturday night was well attended and all had a good time.
In 1920 Washington County, Colorado, Abbott precinct, Harry C. Shadley and Malinda are farming, both 51, with Clayton T. 20, Clifford W. 18, Fannie L. 16, Ruth M. 13, and June A. 11, all kids born in Nebraska.

April 8, 1921 "The public sale at William Taylor ’s last Friday was well attended and everything brought a good price. "
ECKLEY SECTION FOREMAN DROPS DEAD AT HIS HOME

An aged man dropped dead as he entered his home in Eckley at a very early hour Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. H. Shadley, who had been visiting with children at McCook, Nebraska for a week, returned to their home in Eckley on No. 17 Tuesday morning shortly after 4 o'clock. Just as he crossed the threshold of his home, Mr. Shadley dropped to the floor and died almost instantly. The attending physician declared that death was caused by apoplexy. The deceased had been a foreman of the section gang for the Burlington at Eckley for some time. He leaves twelve adult children.

In 1930 Malinda is widowed, living with son Clifford 28, a railroad painter in McCook, Nebraska. Clifford and Ruby M. 24 have Glenn C. 2.
Malinda was in Harlan County, Nebraska in 1935, and in 1940 is in Columbia County, Oregon with Clarence, now a steam fitter i a lumber mill Clarence and Alice have Maxine 19, Bonnie 17, and Carroll 14.
GRAVESIDE SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. SHADLEY

Graveside services with Rev. Ward Bjerke officiating were held Sunday afternoon at the Yuma cemetery for Mrs. Malinda Jane Shadley, 83, who died last week in St. Helens, Oregon. Mrs. Shadley was buried here beside her husband who died at Eckley in 1928. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edwin Welch of Wray and Mrs. Clyde Ross of Elba.

September 11, 1914 Akron Colorado "Durwin Adair, son-in-law of H.C. Shadley, and Mt. Pierson, father of Mrs. C. L. Shadley, are here from Dixon, Nebr., looking for land."

In 1920 Washington County, Colorado. Darwin Adair is a real estate agent, 37, Gertrude 33, with Ethel 16 and Gertrude 9.

In 1930 Nemaha County, Nebraska, Gertrude is 43, with Darwin Adair 47. "Belinda" Shadley, 60 is with them.
Durwin and Gertrude are in the Long Beach, California 1938 directory.
Durwin and Gertrude are running a tavern in 1940 Saunders County, Nebraska, no kids.

One web post says
"Gertrude disappeared on 29 Jan 1940 when she would have been about 52 years old. No trace of her was ever found. ...

Gertrude bought a train ticket from Mitchell to Grand Island, NE. She left many belongings behind, plus left at about the time her first grandchild was to be born. Gertrude had a jeweled Eastern Star ring and jeweled Rebecca pin. She was never seen not wearing these but she left them behind, along with a suitcase of other belongings for each of her daughters"

In 2000 Gertrude moved to Shelby, NE followed by move in 2003 to Osceola, NE. She died Fri. 30 Apr 2004 at Osceola. Service will be Mon at United Methodist Church, Shelby. Burial in Osceola Cemetery. Arrangements: Robert-Dubas Funeral Home, Osceola. Survivors: 2 daughters, 4 gch., 3 g-gch. Predeceased by her husband, & a sister Marie Perry. "

In 1920 Cass County, they have Morris, 7, and all three are still in Cass County in 1930. In 1930 Sylvia is a saleslady in a meat market.

Morris Edward Penterman 1912-1966 is buried in Sutter, California.

HARRY
June 1913 Akron Colorado "Harry Shadley left this Wednesday for New York, to rejoin his battle ship in service of the navy, after three weeks’ visit with his _parents "
Grace Barbara Masek was born in Lusk Wyoming May 19, 1896 to Anton A. Masek and Mary A. Tierney, dying May 5, 1977 in Multnomah County, Oregon.
Harry W. Shadley married Grace B. Massek October 27, 1913, recorded in Morgan County, Colorado.

Harry William Shadley registered for WWI with an address of Lindon, Colorado, farming, born August 31, 1891 at Auburn, Nebraska. Wife and two children, living in 2S 53W.
In 1920 Washington County, Colorado, Harry is 28, Grace 23, Grace 5, Harold A. 3 and Raymond 1.
In 1930 they're in Columbia County, Oregon, with Grace 14, Harold 12, Raymond C. 11, Edna L. 9, Belfma D. 3, and Mabel V. 2.
In 1940 Columbia County, they have Harold 24, Raymond 21, Edna 18, these three in Colorado, Belma 13 and Mabel 12 in Wyoming, and Joyce 8 in Oregon.
Grace Bauer, 26, daughter, is divorced.

ALBERT
1913 Akron "The dance at H.C. Shadley's Saturday night in honor of their sons Albert and Harry Potter, whom will leave soon for Nebraska, was a big success in spite of the stormy weather."
Albert Shadley and Mabel Slauter married February 22, 1915, recorded in Washington County.

Albert Claud Shadley registered for WWI with an address of Akron, Colorado, farming in 1S 53W, with a wife and baby, born November 11, 1894 in Johnson County, Nebraska.
In 1920 he's an express driver in Boulder, Colorado, with Mabel 21, Winona 3, Louise 2, and Donald 1.
In 1930 Denver he's operating a machine in a rubber factory, with Mabel and the three kids.
In 1940 Columbia County, Oregon, they have only Donald.
Albert died October 7, 1963 in Coos County, Oregon.

GRACE
1913 Akron, Colorado "Grace Shadley will leave Monday for Dixon, Neb., where she intends to spend the summer with her sister, Mrs. Adair."
Grace V. Shadley married William E. Taylor October 4, 1915, recroded in WSshingtonCOunty.
William Taylor proved up a claim in 2S 53W in 1895, and then a William Taylor cash-claimed 120 acres in 1912.

In 1920 Washington County, Colorado, Grace is 24, married to William E. 23, farming, with Lin M. 3 and Glenna six months.
In 1930 Reeves County, Texas, Grace is widowed, doing laundry, with Milan L. 13 born in Wyoming, and Glenna L. 10
Grace Vivian Taylor, born October 1,1895 in Nebraska to Harry and Malinda, died August 23, 1976 in El Paso, Texas, to be buried in Restland, El Paso. Son Milam Taylor was the informant.

June 1922 Akron "Mrs. G _. A. Pierson and children spent Friday with her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Shadley."
Clarence Leroy Shadley 1888-1956 is buried in Columbia County Oregon # 43264720, wtih Alice Syrinia (Pierson) Shadley 1890-1972.

CLIFFORD
Clifford W. Shadley married Ruby Wolf November 30, 1922, recorded in WSshington COunty. "Clifford Walter Shadley was born Nov 14, 1901, at Nemaha, the son of Harry and Malinda Laird Shadley. and died unexpectedly at Kearney on Aug 29th at the age of 67. His early childhood was spent in Akron, Colo. On Nov 30, 1922, he was united in marriage to Miss Ruby Wolf at the Presbyterian church in Akron.
After their marriage they moved to McCook where Mr. Shadley worked for the railroad until his retirement in March of 1968. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran church on March 28, 1926, by the Rev. H. Meyer.
Three sons and a daughter were born to this union. Survivors are his widow, Ruby; three sons,Glen of St. Louis, MO., Curtis of McCook, Leland of St. Helen's Org; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Shirley)Folkers, Farmington, N.M.; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Gorley, Phoenis, Ariz., Mrs. Willie Taylor, El Paso, Tex., Mrs. Edwin Welch, Wray, Colo., Mrs. Clyde Ross, Akron, Colo., and nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents, four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. He was a member of the Railroad Veterans and the local Lutheran Laymen's League. "

In 1930 Dundy County, Nebraska, Fred is a carpenter, 25, June 22, with Helen 4 and Delline 2.
In 1940 they're in Columbia County, Oregon with Helmaer 12 adn Delline J. 11.
In 1956 Fred - a superintendent for Knowell Bros. Construction - and June are in Phoenix, Arizona.
Allie J. Gourley died April 2, 1993 in Pacific County, WSashington.
Delline June Gilliam was born July 8, 1928 at Alliance, Nebraska, dying October 8, 2004 in Battle Ground, Washington

Mrs. Clayton Shadley (Lyda Drensen) formerly of Kennard, a retired teacher of Monterey, California died Friday, February 16th in Reno, Nevada, where she had lived the past 2 years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 20, with burial in the Kennard cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Sue, Mrs. Jerry Lykins of Reno, Nevada, one son Thomas Shadley of Los Angeles, California and 3 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Rex Gay, lives at Grand Island and there are 3 brothers: George, of Bassett, Nebraska, Ottis and Delmar of Grand Island, Nebraska. "

In 1940 McCook, Nebraska, William Welch is a trucker, 37, Linnie 36, Waunnetta 13, and Carroll 8. William' brother Beryl Ellsworth Welch 29 is with them.
In 1910 Dundy County, William E. 7 and Beryl E.l 9 are with parents Walter E. 39 and Nellie J. 32.
