Ellsworth McPeek,    Armel

Josiah McPeek, born 1818, married Margaret Ann Tharp, and is buried in Tioga County Pennsylvania # 51513643.

In 1860 Morris County, New Jersey, Josiah is 42, a carpenter, Margaret 35, with Martha 17, Cyrus 13, George 11, Whitfield 9, Wesley 7, William 5, Herman 3, and Lewis three months.

In 1870 Steuben County, New York, Josiah McPeak is 58, Margaret 46, with George 21, Hannah 20, James W. 19, Charles W. 18, Wm. 15, Theodore 13, Alsworth 10, Isiah E. 4.

In 1880 Page County, Iowa, J. McPeak is 61, widowed, born in New Jersey, with son J.E. 14. On the same page is J.@, McPeak 27, with wife M.E. 31 and their son J. L. 4.

In 1880 Will County, Illinois, Ellsworth is a laborer, in the Illinois State Penetentiary, Joliet, 20, born in New Jersey.

(His brother Charles Wesley McPeek, a farmer born November 22, 1852 in New Jersey, is also imprisoned.)

One family member wrote "He was released from Joliet State Prison on 22 Jan 1881 he had served 15 months for Larceny and Burglary."

In 1890 the state of Indiana extradited D.S McPeek from Colorado - for grand larceny.

Ellsworth cash-claimed a quarter in 18, 3S 42W in 1890.

That land was owned in 1920 by D.T. Atwood. In 1879 David F. Atwood was a notary in Peoria, Illinois.

In 1912 the Wray Rattler reported "D.F. Atwood of New York City who owns a half section of land in the vicinity of Armel visited old times friends a few days last week. Mr. Atwood used to be a homesteader in this country in the early days."

David G. Atwood had cash-claimed a quarter in 1892 in section 19, 3S 42W. His daughter Violet, per the 1900 census of Chicago, was born January 1886 in Nebraska. David F. Atwood had cash-claimed a quarter in Pierce County, Nebraska in 1884, and David Atwood cash-claimed one in Banner County, Nebraska in 1891.

David F. and Rosa A. Atwood owned land in 1923 in Red Willow County, Nebraska.

Per FindAGrave, David and Rosa both were buried March 22, 1838, and are buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Denver.

But one Boulder book says "Atwood, Mrs. Rosa A. age 76 yrs, born Peoria, Ill, daughter of Philip and Amalia Von Oberhauser, widow of David F. Atwood, died Feb 8, 1938. Body sent to Peoria for burial beside husband."

July 17, 1883 "New Albany, Indiana. Philip Oberhauser, a cabinet-maker, was attached at midnight Saturday while on his way home and murdered by Jack Rouke and Thomas Luecke. There was no provocation for the murder. Rouke and Luecke have been arrested."

One tree said he was Ellsworth Lenis McPeek born June 10, 1860 in Morris County, New Jersey, dying July 16, 1939 in Wabasha, Minnesota.

Another tree said he went by the name Frank Thorp (his mother's maiden name), married Annie Walker Sept 10, 1889 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was in Clark County, Wisconsin in 1895 census. In 1900 Wabasha County, Minnesota, Frank Thorp / Tharp born June 1862 in New Jersey, has been married two years to Lizzie Dec 1880 Germany, with son Cyers Feb 1899.

In 1910 Wabasha County, Frank is 49, Elizabeth 29, Cyrus 11, Clarence 9, Evelyn 6, Viola 4, Margaret . and month-old Archie.

Frank 1861-1939 and Elizabeth 1881-1952 are buried in Greenfield Cemetery, Wabasha County # 80828853.
