" I remember John Shaw as a medium size man, quick with his movements. A strong Democrat - liked to talk politic, liked horses and knew them quite well. He also  knew the Bible very well and  kinda liked to argue.  He said about what he thought; said he never hit a man that didn't go down, cause I don't know how he did after the man got up; he never said.   He loved to read the newspaper and read it all.  He stayed with us at times, he was very honest man, but also could tell you some tales.  His brothers helped clear the timber off Duck Island, some used horse teams and some used ox teams."

" I remember  Grandma Shaw as a fairly large woman, a good woman, who  really liked me- so I naturally liked her.  She liked to whistle or sing or hum a lot. She was very out spoken, if she wanted to say something about you - she would tell you whether you liked it or not, good or bad.  She was a good worker  and stout.

Her and husband, John had always been farmers I'm told.  They were both at our home at different times in their older years."
