Vernon N. and Faith R. (Briggs) Shambaugh, Witherbee
Vernon proved up a quarter in 6, 5N 42W in 1916
He registered in Yuma County, saying he was born June 26, 1886 in Blaine Pennsylvania, and had a wife and two children.
In 1920 Perry County Pennsylvaia Vernon is 32, born in Pennsylvania, and faith is 25. They have Guy 4, Laura 3, Loyd 1, and Mae A. two weeks.
Faith R. Briggs was born August 17, 1894 in Colorado, moved to Nebraska, and
came to Colorado from Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 10 in a covered wagon
with her parents, twin sister and three brothers. Here they purchased a
homestead from Lex Elder 18 miles southeast of Holyoke.
She graduated from the eighth grade at Pleasant Valley School (Phillips County).
Faith was married to Vernon A. Shambaugh April 19, 1914 and lived on Vernon's
homestead 22 miles southeast of Holyoke. In the spring of 1919, they sold their
homestead and went by train to Pennsylvania.
In the spring of 1926 they returned to Phillips County with their five children.
Vernon died in 1943 and Faith and her youngest daughter Irene moved to Holyoke.
Faith worked in the Holyoke Hospital under Dr. Hill for a few years and then
managed a cafe with Ruby Ashton for a year.
She spent five years in Tucson, Arizona with her daughter Anna Mae Trostle and a
year with her daughter's family, the Jim Sloans, after her daughter Irene passed
away. She retired at the age of 78 and did volunteer work after that as long as
she was able.
She is survived by one brother Lawrence Briggs of Holyoke; two sons Guy R.
Shambaugh of Boise, Idaho and Lloyd C. Shambaugh of Denver; two daughters Laura
Ellis of Colorado Springs and Anna Mae Trostle of Tucson, Arizona; 16
grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
*NOTE: Date of death was 28 May 1988 - Verne and Faith are buried in
Holyoke.

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, September 17, 1959 RITES YESTERDAY FOR MRS. SLOAN, ONCE OF HOLYOKE Mrs. James Sloan of Julesburg, the former Irene Shambaugh, passed away early Sunday morning at Presbyterian Hospital in Denver after an illness of seven weeks. She was 35 years of age. Mrs. Sloan lived here for a number of years. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Julesburg Methodist church, with Rev. Glenn Barney officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. The Austin Funeral Home of Julesburg was in charge of arrangements. Ruth Irene Sloan was born February 17, 1924, at New Germantown, Pennsylvania, the youngest of five children of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Shambaugh. The family moved to Holyoke when she was 2 years old. Here she grew to womanhood, attending the Holyoke schools. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper. She was married to James Sloan on October 23, 1944. They made their home in the New Haven community for several years, then moved to Julesburg where they have lived since. Three children were born to this union, Vickie Sue, Vernon Ray and Shelly Jo. Mrs. Sloan was a member of the Methodist church, and took an active part in the Sunday school and the choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors of America. She had been employed as telephone operator at the Julesburg office for three years up to the time of her death. Survivors include her husband, James; the three children, Vickie, Vernon and Shelly; her mother, Mrs. Faith Shambaugh, of Holyoke and Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin Ellis, Eckley, Colorado and Mrs. Elwood Trostle of Tucson, and two brothers, Lloyd Shambaugh, Denver, and Guy Shambaugh, Billings, Montana. ---------------------------------------------------------- Holyoke
Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, December 29, 2005 ------------------------------------------- Helen T. Shambaugh, 95, of Boise, passed away on Saturday, February
23, 2013 in a local assisted living facility. A funeral service will be
held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran
Church, Boise, with burial to follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. The family
will greet friends at a viewing on Friday, March 1, from 5-8 p.m., at
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.Helen was born on January 9, 1918, in
Richfield, PA, to Cloyd G. Trostle and Joyce Dietz Trostle. After
graduating high school, Helen completed nurses training and business
college. She married Guy Richard Shambaugh on Dec. 26, 1946 in
Harrisburg, PA. Together they resided in Harrisburg, Holyoke, CO, Iliff,
CO, Sterling, CO, Trinidad, CO, Billings, MT, Westminster, CO, and
Boise. She was employed as a nurse and also worked as a homemaker.
Helen's hobbies included music, arts, crafts, socializing and dancing.
She enjoyed serving in her church, travelling, singing, serving others,
bible studies-leading several bible studies over the years. She was a
member in Choral Society of Harrisburg, PA. Helen helped set up and
worked in the initial Head Start Program in Denver, and again in Boise.
Helen was a caregiver to many, both young and older, throughout her
life. She was also a very active volunteer in her church home.Helen is
survived by her son Michael Richard and Debbie Shambaugh, and their son
Stanley Shambaugh; a daughter, Patricia Leigh and Leonard Engel, and
their children, Korrin Leigh Engel and John Paul Engel; and a daughter,
Helen Kay Morse and her son Justin Morse.She was preceded in death by
her husband Guy R. Shambaugh; her parents, Joyce and Cloyd Trostle; and
brothers Edward A. Trostle, Paul A. Trostle, and Raymond E. Trostle.
