A PIONEER GONE - In the passing of James Wm. Jones who resided northwest of this place, the west lost one of its most hardy pioneers. Mr. Jones was born in 1854 and his entire life was spent on the western frontiers. When but a lad living with his parents in one of the Dakotas, he and the remainder of the family were captured by Indians, and his father and mother were killed by their captors. He and a sister succeeded in making their escape, but never after that time has he heard from her. When but a lad of fifteen, he drove a team through from Dakota to one of the southern states with a sick man lying in the wagon as his only companion. His early life was spent in enduring the hardships of a pioneer's life. For the past eight years he has been in ill health and the end came last week. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. C.F. Lucas from the Methodist church of this place on Wednesday of last week and his body laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery. He leaves to mourn, his wife and six children.

Mrs. Mary Jones Dies Tuesday After Prolonged Illness - Mrs. Mary Jones, a resident of this locality for more than thirty year, died Tuesday at her home in Wray. She had been seriously ill for several weeks. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church with Rev. Louis A. Haruf officiating and burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.

Mary Florinda Rohrer, Daughter of William and Dorothy Rohrer, was born on November 13, 1865, at Liberty, Missouri, and died at the age of 78 years, one month and fifteen days. In 1891 she confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized into the Methodist church, since which time she has remained a faithful and willing member. On July 9, 1882, she was united in marriage to James W. Jones, and to the is union were born ten children, six of whom survive. The surviving children are Myrtle Jones, Mrs. Henry Hesse and Homer Jones of Wray; Mrs. Glen Polly of Woodburn, Oregon; Clarence Jones of Otis and Mrs. Jesse McFarland of Eckley. One daughter and three sons preceded her in death, as did her husband who died on June 2, 1922. The family came to Yuma County in 1911 and settled on a homestead north of Wray. In the year 1937 Mrs. Jones moved into Wray where she has since made her home. Other survivors include a sister, Miss Gertrude Rohrer of Wray, a brother J.W. Rohrer of Hutchinson, Kansas, fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of less near relatives and friends. "Grandma" Jones, as she was known by all, was a patient, kind and loving mother and friend and was devoted to her home and family.

In 1930 Wray Mary F. is a dairy farmer, 64, Myrtle M. 43, Gertrude J. Rohrer 53, and Robert Criswell, 11, is a helper. All three women are on 9th Street in Wray in 1940.

Bertha married Henry J. Hesse, and they're farming in Yuma County in 1920, with Lena 4 and James 1.

In 1940 Henry and Bertha have Leo Max, 15, two Axton boys lodging, and schoolteacher Lela A. Cason.

Bertha 1889-1978 and Henry 1890-1959 are buried in Wray. - as is daughter Lena F. Hesse Losey.

Henry John Hesse - Died: January 4, 1959 Henry John Hesse's death from heart attack saddens community. This community was saddened Sunday when it learned that Henry Hesse, a life-long and useful citizen of the Wray area had died suddenly with a heart attack at his home. He died in his automobile as he was preparing to start the car to go to church. He formerly farmed near Wray and in recent years had lived in Wray. He was the weather recorder for this region.

Funeral services for Mr. Hesse were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian Church with Elder S.F. Bullard of the RLDS Church officiating. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery.

Henry John Hesse, son of George and Lina Fossick Hesse, was born May 22, 1890. He died January 4, 1959 at the age of 68 years, seven months and 12 days. His parents came to the untied states from Germany in the year 1882 and settled in Missouri for a short while before coming west to establish themselves on the homestead 10 miles west of Wray in October of 1887, and on this place they raised their family. Mr Hesse's boyhood days were spent on the homeplace. His entire education was obtained in the rural school of the old neighborhood and he gained his practical knowledge by the experience of "doing the job". He was the 5th child in a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded him in death except for the eldest brother Fred, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Beal of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Dorothy Wheeler of Bakersfield, California. The brothers who preceded him in death are William, August, and Charlie.

He was married to Bertha A. Jones on Christmas day 1912, and three children were born to them. As a child he was raised in the Lutheran faith. In 1922 he and his wife became members of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, of which he remained a good and faithful member all the remainder of his life. Surviving him are his wife, Bertha; his daughter, Mrs. Lena Castor of Greeley; two sons, Jimmy W. of Wray and Leo M of Grand Jct; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his brother Fred of Wray, and his sisters Emma and Dorothy. He also left many friends for he was one of those who had the quality to make friends.

In 1940 they're in Marion County Oregon, with Gail, Robert, Rodney, and June M. 6.

Glen Samuel Polly - Nov 2, 1899 - Jun 12, 1967 - and Ellen Gertrude Polly - Oct 5, 1899 - Jan 14, 1978 are buried in Belle Passi Cemetery, Marion County.

Billie Lee McFarland married Marilyn Lou Allred March 16, 1968 in Douglas County Nevada, and might have been in Larimer County in the 1980's.

Homer in 1930 is in Hutchinson, Kansas, a laborer in a salt mine, living with his uncle Jacob W. Rohrer

But in 1940 is farming in Yuma County, married to Mae - 32, born in Missouri. They have Quinton 8, Garry 6, and Milton 5, three born in Kansas, and Wallace 1, Colorado.

Homer 1904-1991 and Eleanor May Schulp Jones Apr 30 1908 - Aug 6, 1979 are also buried in Wray.
