Herman and Elizabeth (Peetz) Teichert, Idalia/Laird.
Photographs and family information from Bev Teichert, bevtei@hotmail.com
Herman Teichert (1862-1946) and Elizabeth Peetz (1863-1957) were both born in Prussia and became engaged in the 1880s. Herman came to the United States in 1890, settled in the German community south of Idalia and sent for Elizabeth to join him. Elizabeth Peetz arrived at Ellis Island Sept. 1, 1893 and they were married in Colorado on September 24. They continued to live in the Idalia area until about 1907 when they moved south of Laird and established a ranch on the Arikaree near the Rosenkrans.
Their children: 1894 Carl, 1895 twins - Freda (Mrs Mike Fisher) & Eda (Mrs. John Brown), 1897 Herman (m. Waunetta Sherman), 1898 Otto (m. Ethel Cox McGinnis), 1901 twins - Elsa (Mrs. Fred Baker) & Ella (Mrs. Orville Bush), 1904 Elizabeth (Mrs. Bill Eastin), 1906 William and 1909 Martha (Mrs. Dale Whomble).
You will notice that Herman Sr. was added to the family portrait by the photographer. Sometime after 1910 he left the Arikaree ranch and moved to Washington to seek work.
This photograph probably dates from about 1900 when the Teichert family was still living near Idalia.
