Anna D. Hansen 1866-1947 is buried in Yuma.
Peter Christian Hansen 1892-1988 and Mildred 1902-1983 are buried in Yuma.

Verna Mae (Hansen) Miller 1927 ~ 2011 Written by The Family Tuesday, 19 July 2011 Verna Mae (Hansen) Miller was born June 12, 1927, the eldest daughter of 10 children born to Alfred and Jennie Hansen of the Lone Star community, Washington County, Colorado. She was born in Yuma, Colorado, at her grandmother Hansen's home. She grew up on the homestead with her older brother LaVerne, younger sisters, Lorna, Beaulah, Eunice and Donna and younger brothers Jerry, Bob, Don and Max. Verna graduated from high school in 1945 from Lone Star School. In 1947 Verna started work at Mustain's store in Yuma. She stayed with her Uncle Pete Hansen and Aunt Mildred in Yuma, helping out around the house and at the Hansen Brother's Garage on Main Street where they sold Hudson cars and Allis-Chalmer tractors. It was there where Verna met Elmer Miller. Following a short engagement, Elmer and Verna were married in 1948 by the Justice of the Peace in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. Elmer & Verna moved into a house at 219 N. Buffalo Street in Yuma where Elmer ran a radiator shop. They raised three children: Elden, Deanna and Wesley. Verna devoted her life to taking care of Elmer, her children and her extended family. She was the one everyone could always count on to help out. She did mending, ironed clothes and enjoyed quilting and sewing. Verna passed away at the age of 84 at the Yuma Life Care Center on July 12, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer who passed away in 1994. Her parents Alfred and Jennie and her brother Jerry Hansen are also deceased. Also preceding her in death are Elmer's parents John and Maggie Miller of Yuma, Elmer's brother Johnny Miller and his wife Joyce of Mountain View, Arkansas, sister-in-law Johnie Hansen (wife of Jerry Hansen), her brother-in-law Reinold Frick of Sterling and brother-in-law Sonny Aagesen of Yuma. Surviving Verna are her brothers: LaVerne and wife Jean of Yuma, Bob & his wife Terri of Holyoke, Don and his wife Sherrie of Yuma and Max and his wife Marty of Naples, Florida. Also surviving are her sisters: Lorna Frick of Sterling, Beaulah Aagesen of Yuma, Eunice Beechley and husband Ron of McCook, Nebraska and Donna Pletcher and husband Gary of Greeley, Colorado. Verna's children, Elden Miller and his wife Nancy of Aurora, Colorado, Deanna Morris and husband John of Woodrow, Colorado and Wesley Miller of Yuma are surviving as well. Verna has four grandchildren, Aaron Miller of Elizabeth, Colorado, Logan Wilson of Greeley, Jason Miller of Denver and James Morris of Woodrow. She was blessed with four great-grandchildren all of which she loved dearly. A memorial service will be held at the Community of Christ Church in Yuma, Colorado on July 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Verna will be interred at the Yuma cemetery alongside her husband Elmer in a private ceremony. Her whole family will miss Verna Mae Miller but her memories will live in our hearts forever. Baucke Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. |
