Ida Belle Brooks, Yuma
In 1880 De Witt County, Illinois, Caroline Brooks, 50, is widowed. She has Louisa J. 20, Franz S. 18, Ulisses G. 16, Ida Bell 12, and sons Andrew Towers 29 and Thomas F. Towers, 25.
In 1900 Urbana, Illinois Jennie is 39 (must be Louisa), Ulysses 33, Ida B. 30, a clerk in a dry good store, Thos Cunningham 38, Charles Bruley 25, and Andrew Towers, 49, all boarders.
1903 Miss Belle Brooks was "writing" for her teaching certificate.
1904 "The brother and sister of Miss Brooks returned to Yuma on Thursday after a visit in Iowa" - Miss Brooks gave some entertainment at a teachers meeting, so she might have been a teacher.
"Miss Jennie Brooks and A.F. Powers, brother and sister of Miss Bell Brooks, our teacher, left Friday evening for Champaign, Ill."
1905 "Miss Bell Brooks, who has had charge of the Primary Department of the Yuma school for the past two years, accompanied by her brother and sister, left Tuesday afternoon for Boulder where they will make their home this summer."

1908 Ida Belle Brooks was appointed a grade teacher in Longmont.
1911 the Longmont U.B. church named Ida Bell Brooks as Steward.
In 1915 Ida was teaching at First Primary in Berthoud - she had received her Bachelors in 1913 from Colorado State Teachers College.
Ida 62 - a teacher - and Jennie 69 are in Greeley in 1930,
Ida was a first grade teacher in the Windsor, Colorado schools in 1931.
and Ida is in Boulder in 1940,
In Nixon Township Cemetery, De Witt County, one stone has "Caroline Woodring Towers Brooks -1830-1890 - Andrew Franklin Towers 1851-1905, Ulysses Grant Brooks 1864-1923, Jennie Brooks 1859-1940 and Ida Belle Brooks 1868-1951"
| Caroline Woodring was the daughter of John Woodring. She married Thomas S. Towers in Ohio, moved to Illinois in the early 1850's; he died shortly after. Andrew Franklin Towers (not Brooks) is their son. Caroline then married William Saunders Brooks, b.ca.1812. He was married once before and had at least 2 sons, Jesse and Rollie. One of these sons ended up in Arkansas and another went to Nebraska with William in the late 19th century. This William is not the same as William Sylvester Brooks, also from DeWitt and moved to NE. All the children buried with Caroline did not marry. William and Caroline's son, Franz (began using "Frank" during WWI) Siegel married Elvira (Ella) Kimler of Piatt County and moved to western Kansas before 1910. Their children: Sylvia, Devon Earl, and Loren Lynn. Another son of Franz and Ella (Marvin) died young and is buried in the Brooks plot at Weldon |
