December 1928 "Mrs. E. L. Waters, a resident of Yuma county for nearly two score years, died at the family home in this city Saturday, December 22, 1928, aged 76 years, 9 months,and 10 days. Funeral services were held from the Yuma Methodist church at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and the interment was at the Yuma cemetery. Clarissa A. Card, daughter of Steven and Julie Card, was born near Evansville in Green county, Wisconsin March 12, 1852. When she was 2 years old she moved with her parents to Shirland, Winnebago county, Illinois where she lived until she was about 16 years of age. She then moved with her parents to Afton, Wisconsin, and resided at this place until March 15, 1876 when she was united in marriage to Edgar L. Waters. Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Waters celebrated their golden wedding [anniversary] in this city. After her marriage she lived with her husband on a farm near the same town. In the fall of 1879 Mr. and Mrs. Waters emigrated to near Utica, York County, Nebraska, where they lived for ten years. In 1880 they moved to Yuma county, Colorado, locating ten miles north and eat of Yuma, at which place they lived until the spring of 1918 when they moved to this city, where they have since resided. Clarissa A. Waters joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Utica, Nebraska, nearly forty-five years ago, and in 1880 she had her letter transferred to the Methodist church at Yuma. She has always been a faithful member, wonderful mother, true friend, always thinking of others, and bringing to all sunshine. To know her was to love her. To this union, nine children were born, seven of whom are living, two having preceded their mother to their heavenly home. One daughter passed away in infancy nearly forty years ago, at the age of 11 months, and one son, Edgar V. Waters, died during the flu epidemic ten years ago,at the age of 24 years. The children who survive her are three sons, George C., Albert L., and Harry F. Waters all of Yuma, Colorado and four daughters, Eva M. Blake, Hereford, Colorado, Hattie B. Beezley, Greeley , Colorado, Julia A. Lawrence, San Jose, California, and Laura A. Lindsey, Jacksonville, Florida; All the children except Laura A. Lindsey who was kept at home on acount of illness, are here at the present time with their father. Waters since he was injured in a fall several weeks ago, left for Atchison, Kansas Monday evening." March 1943 "E. L. Waters, a resident of the Yuma community for fifty-two years, dropped dead Monday morning in the office of the G. H. Smith Agency at the age of 88 years, four months, and ten days. His sudden death was attributed to a heart attack. In spite of his advanced years, he had been in apparent good health prior to his passing. The deceased was born November 5, 1854 at Afton, Wisconsin and came to Yuma in 1890, having been engaged in farming since that time, altho in the later years of his life he made his home in town. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. H. A. Critchett at the Methodist church in Yuma tomorrow Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Yuma Cemetery beside his wife whose death occurred several years ago. Surviving are three sons and four daughters - Harry Waters of Denver, Albert Waters of Haigler, Nebraska, Geo. E. Waters of northeast of Yuma, Mrs. Laura Lindsey of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mrs. Julia Lawrence of San Jose, California, Mrs. Hattie Beezley of Yuma, and Mrs. Eva Blake of Denver.
