In 1900 Pottawattamie County, Iowa Charles 12 and "Sarus" 10 are with parents "Sidnah" 48 and Hannah O. 40 Leighton .
Sidnah and Hannah Olive Leighton moved around through Missouri and Iowa, and are probably the ones in Buckner cemetery, Montgomery County, Iowa Hannah 1860-1939 - Sidnah 1851-1946 - son Floyd Baxter Leighton 1878-1960
Charles proved up two quarters in 3N 47W in 1913, joining Henry L. Meier's 1913 homestead. Witnesses were Chris F. Gardner, L.Z. Curry, Charles W. Zwirn, and Henry L. Meier.
Sena is living with sister Gertrude and Stephen Card in Yuma in 1910.
Charles A. and "Syrus" W. Leighton. brothers, are living together in 1910 Yuma County. Following them on the page are Lizzie MEIER Zwirn and then Lizzie's brother Henry Meier.
1910 - Waverly section -"Art Leighton has been working the past week at Yuma. It does the old batch good"
May 1911 "The wrestling match last Saturday at Cole's opera house between McPeak and Art Leighton was well attended. Leighton won the match, the first fall in a little over half an hour, and the second fall in a fraction over thirteen minutes.
"Sara" Meier married Charles Leighton June 7, 1912 in Wray.
July 1914 "Dr. Crawford reports the arrival of a baby boy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Leighton, twelve miles northeast of Yuma, on Sunday, June 28. All are doing nicely."
Charles registered for WWI in Yuma, saying he was born July 4, 1888 in Hoxie Kansas., and had a wife and two children
Cyrus W. Leighton did a cash claim in 1917 for a quarter two miles west of Charles.
Sena Katherine Leighton 1896 - 1987 and Charles Arthur Leighton 1887 -1972 are buried in Griswold Cemetery, Pottawattamie County, Iowa

MEIER Leighton in Yuma, Colorado on June 28, 1914. The family moved to
Iowa when he was 4 yrs. old. He was married to Viola Alice Fox at the
Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa on June 28, 1939. He worked for
Union Pacific R.R., farmed various farms in s.w. Iowa and drove stock
and grain trucks. He died on July 24, 2002 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He
was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola Leighton, December
29, 1972; two brothers, Donald and Wilbur Leighton; and one sister,
Dorothy Rockwell. |

September 1911 "Wm. Leighton went to Brush yesterday wehre he was to wrestle Wax, of Fort Morgan, last night, and Odell tonight."
October 1911 "Last Saturday morning while coming to town, Wm. Leighton accidentally discharged his rifle, the ball passing through his left wrist. Fortunately no bones were struck, and the would is doing nicely under the are of Dr. Crawford."
January 1912 the Pioneer's page is mutilated, but it includes "two falls in three. Let everybody come out and see this man throw Leighton on Saturday, Janauray 20. Admission 50c."

1915 "William Leighton returned this morning from Mountain Grove, Missouri, to which place he was summoned two weeks ago by a message announcing the serious illness of a sister. Mr. Leighton reports that his sister is much improved."

Cyrus William Leighton registered for WWI in Yuma, saying he was born in Hoxie Kansas July 16, 1889 (or 1888) He said he was married.
In 1920 Pottawattamie County, Iowa "William" and Elsie E. have Olive M.. He's working on a farm.
In 1930 Omaha "William" Leighton, 42, Kansas, and Elsie E. 30, Iowa have Olive M. 12, born in Colorado. He drives an ice truck.
In 1940 William and Elsie are still in Omaha. He's a blacksmith, and Olive is a clerk in a creamery.
Olive M. Leighton, 31, married Edwards Thompson, Jr. 24, in Omaha in August 1949.
THOMPSON-Edwards, Jr., age 82, Lincoln, NE. Preceded in death by wife, Olive Thompson; parents, Edwards, Sr. and Nellie Thompson; sister, Gladys Hunt; brothers, Harold Hunt and Robert Thompson. Survived by daughter, Victoria Thompson of Omaha; son, William B. Thompson of Cheyenne, WY; 2 grandsons: Edwards Wilkerson of Lincoln, NE and fiancée, Jennifer Ponec, Leighton Thompson of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Marjorie Hunt Estes of Sequim, WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and Maisy.
Edwards Thompson, Jr., dying 2008, is in Forest Lawn, Omaha plot ESG 66, 1.
Olive M. is in ESG 66, 2, interred Febraury 19, 1991.
SSDI has Cyrus Leighton born August 16, 1889 dying October 1973 - last residence Omaha.
