In 1870 Marshall County, Iowa, Henry is 59, Mary 41, Jame 19, Lorenzo 13, Jacob 11, David 7, Pheebe 4, Mary 2, and Ida two months.
In 1880 Marshall County, Henry is 69, Mary 51, David 17, Martin 21, Lily 17, and grandchildren Laura four months, Mary 12, Ida 10, and Della 7.
Henry Crawford Castleman 1818-1898 is buried in Jasper County, Iowa # 25419445. So is Anna Maria (Martin) Castleman 1829-1914, # 108829581



In 1880 Marshall County, Iowa, Elon Phay is 33, Rebecca 26, Henry E.l 6, Lottie E. 3, and Jennie L. 1.

In 1900 Jasper County, Iowa, Elon Phay born April 1847 in Ohio, married 30 years to Rebecca Dec 1853 Indiana, have Edmond H. Sept 1873, Jennie L. January 1879, Harry B. June 1882, Martha L. March 1887, and Nellie M. Oct 1889, all kids born in Iowa. Elon and Edmond are masons.

In 1910 Yuma County, David 27 and Jennie 30 have Fay R. 6 and CLifford 3, both born in Iowa.
On the same census is Edmond Fay, 36, with Hattie 29, Alberta 4, Dora 2, and Beulah M. six months. Beulah was born in Colorado, all the others in Iowa.
Next is Elon Fay 60 Ohio and Rebecca 55 Indiana.

Next is Harry B. Fay 27, with Bessie 22, Kansas. Harry D. is 1, and Hellen R. one month.

August 1911 "Word was received from Washington by Frank T. Hawks that the pension claim of Mrs. Rebecca Phay, northwest of town, had been allowed, and would date from May 13th. She is to receive $ 12 per month."

August 1912 "Mrs. David Donaldson and sister Mrs. Ed Weeks, and mother, Mrs. Ed Phay, were shopping in Wray Monday from their home eighteen miles northwest. Mrs, Donaldson tells us that the crops in that vicinity are excellent, and that wheat was being cut this week. Even the sandhill land is doing its best to bring the standard of Eastern Colorado up to and above the yield of the high priced land in Nebraska and other states that think they hold first place in the ranks."

August 29, 1912 Wray

October 3, 1912 "Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Phay last Friday, a fine boy. All parties doing fine."

March 1913 " H. E. Phay arrived from St. Louis yesterday, where he has been working for the past four months. He lives up near Eckley."

August 21, 1913 "Saturday afternoon, the office of the County Judge Jennings was the scene of the marriage of Jacob M. Castleman and Miss Mary Elsie Holtz, the judge performing the ceremony. Both parties are of Wray, the former having been employed in and about the town for the past few years, the latter having been one of the employees of the Wray Hotel. Quite a number witnessed the ceremony, among them, Mrs. Rebecca Phay, a sister of the groom, Messrs and Mesdames Jim Graves, Ed Weeks, Roy Anderson, all of several miles northwest and Miss Edith Gostry of Wray. We understand the couple will make their home on the farm owned by the groom north of Robb."

March 1914 "Mrs. W. R. Awtry made her mother, Mrs. Rebecca Phay, of Wray, a visit last week returning Saturday. Dick got awful tired of batching. "

December 1915 " Mrs. Rebecca Phay spent last week with Mrs. Frank Miller, of Eckley."
Rebecca proved up 320 acres in 4 and 5, 2N 45W in 1915, and Henry 320 in 5, 8, and 9 in 1916.

February 1916 "Mrs. Phay is expected home this week. She has spent the past few weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Jim Graves, and son, Harry Phay."

April 1916 "Mrs. Rebecca Phay has relinquished her homestead and Mr. Buckley and family are now living on same."

Elon James Phay 1847-1911 is buried in Wray Co. H., 128th Indiana Infantry, # 61260126.

May 4, 1911 Marshalltown, Iowa
February 1937 "Mrs. Rebecca Phay, 73, formerly of Eckley, miraculously escaped serious injury when she stepped backward and fell down the steps leading to the basement at the Richmond Miles home where she was staying."

HENRY EDMOND

Henry registered for WWI in Marshalltown, Iowa, born Sept 22, 1873, a plasterer for George Downing, with wife Hattie.

In 1930 Kissimmee, Florida Henry is 56, Hattie M. 49, Leota F. 24, Beualah M. 20, John E. 17, both bornin Colorado, Elizabeth 12, Iowa, and Hernry Jr. 9, Florida.
Henry 1873-1960 is buried in Kissimmee, Florida 50863994, with Hattie (Darr) Phay 1880-1949, # 50853993.
So is Henry Edmund Jr. 1920-1979 WWII Army, # 20514444.

HARRY

Harry Burton Phay registered for WWI with an Eckley address, a plasterer, reference Bessie O. Phay.

He's living with Rebecca in 1920 Yuma County.
In 1930 Kissimmee, Florida Harry is 47, Agaline 30, and her daughters Margeria 8, and Marion 5.
In 1935 Harry is 51, Azaline 35, Margie 13, and Marion 10.

Harry Burton Phay, born Jun 20, 1882, died August 8, 1972 in Osceola County, Florida.

Marion W. Phay, born June 25, 1924, died Dec 21, 1998, buried in Pleasant Hill, Kissimmee.

MAUDE
In 1920 Yuma County, Maud is married to James T. Graves, 33. They have Chester 3 and ebecca three months.

In 1930 They have the two kids, and Lottie E. Awtry 53, widowed, a nurse, is with them.

James "F." Graves is widowed in 1940 Yuma County, farming with Cheste 23. Rebecca 20 is with him, too.

Chester, born Dec 9, 1916 to James T. Graves and Lily M. Phay, died Oct 6, 1988.
He's buried in Eaton, Colorado # 101285177, on a stone with Lois M. - April 15, 1927..

William Awtry is 23 in 1880 Jasper County, Iowa, married to Harriet R. 18.
Harriet Rosabell Awtry, dying 1881, is buried in Marshall County # 55075274, with William Awtry 1856-1926. FindAGrave has Martha Mary (Maytag) Awtry 1861-1955, but not Lottie - maybe its a William C. Awtry...
He's widowed in 1895 Jasper County, with William H. 2
Lottie E. Phay, age 27, married Wm. R. "Antry" in Jasper County, Iowa March 2, 1903.

James E. Awtry born Jan 7, 1904 in Marshall County, Iowa, was the child of William and Lottie, in Iowa birth records.
1904 Marshalltown Iowa "Richard Awtry, who was in the employ of H. Cavell to Jan 1st, has formed a partnership with his father, W.H. Awtry, in the livery business."

William H. Awtry of Laurel, and Martha M. who were divorced six months ago, were married in 1906. They were to operate the hotel.

Martha Awtry divorced Richard Awtry in Marshall County in 1910.

December 9, 1908 Marshalltown "Mrs. Lottie Awtry, of Wray, Col., is here for a short visit with relatives and friends."

Marshalltown December 9, 1910 "W.H. Awtry left Thursday for Wray, Colorado, where he will reside in the future."

1912 " Richard Awtry who was injured by a barn falling on him during the storm last week, was in town the first of the week to be near the physician but returned to his borne west of Wray yesterday."

Richard Awtry was a witness for the 1913 land claim of David Donaldson.

1914 "Mrs. R. W. Awtry presided over the Laird hotel during the absence of the landlady."

1914 "Judge E. L. Palmer was the guest last Sunday of the family of W. R. Awtry of Wray to dinner as was also Mrs. Rebecca Phay, Mrs. Awtry's mother. "

William R. Awtry proved up two quarters in 10, 2N 45W in 1916.

In 1920 Yuma County, Lottie is a cook at the Commercial Hotel in Eckley, 43, widowed.

Lottie E. Awtry proved up 320 acres in 17, 20, and 21, 2N 45W in 1922.

In 1902 Iowa, Jennie Leora Phay, born at Mashalltown to Elon Phay and Rebecca Castelman, married rchie Donaldson, son of David Donaldson.

In 1915 Jennie is back in Madison County, Iowa.
David Donaldson proved up 320 acres in 7 and 8, 2N 45W in 1916,
In 1920 David is farming, with Jennie 41, Fay 16, Clifford 13, Frances 7, born inColorado, and Gladys 5, in Iowa.

Phay Reynolds Donaldson, born Jun 25, 1903, married Annia Williams in 1926, died Oct 21, 1955 in Colfax Iowa, buried McKeever cemetey.

Anna Donaldson, 96, of Colfax died of pneumonia Thursday at Clearview Manor in Prairie City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Colfax, of which she was a member. Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax. Mrs. Donaldson was born in Oswalt and had lived in Colfax all her life. She had worked at Vernon Company in Newton before retiring. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Gil-reath of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Elizabeth Ing-lis of Baxter; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phay. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax, where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Gladys Gail Nichol was born on February 21, 1915 in Murray, Iowa, the daughter of David and Jennie (Phay) Donaldson. She was raised in the Colfax area. Gladys was united in marriage to Walter Van Nichol on June 16, 1934 at her parent's house in Colfax. The couple moved many times before finally settling in Knoxville in 1961. She began working at Collins Hospital as a nurse aid, a job she held for 26 years, and retired at the age of 70. Walter passed away in 1995.
Gladys was active in the Garden Club. She enjoyed playing cards and having neighbors and friends over to visit. She was also a wonderful cook and had many requests for her apple pies. Most of all, she loved her family and looked forward to seeing her grandchildren.
Gladys passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 at Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville at the age of 96 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; infant daughter, Beverly; sons, Walter Dale and James Ray Nichol; granddaughter, Jennifer Nichol; great-grandson, Joel Minnihan; and siblings, Clifford Donaldson, Frances Miller and Phay Donaldson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jerry (Patty) Nichol of Knoxville; grandchildren, Pam Nichol, Julie Minnihan, Andy Nichol, Robin Shemanski, Cathy Meritt, John Nichol, ZoAnn Thompson, Neil Nichol and Beverly Michelsen; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Manser, Amy Shemanski, Nikki Figland, Kayla and Jacob Nichol, Brenna and Seth Meritt, James Thompson, Kelli Hanson, Haley and Caitlin Nichol and Cody Michelsen; great-great-grandchildren, Madison Hammen, Aubrey Hanson and Angel and Abigale Hawkins; daughters-in-law, Barb Nichol and Carole Nichol; sisters-in-law, Irene Bartholomew, Doris Nichol and Marylou Nichol; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery in rural Colfax at 2 p.m. on Friday.

In 1916 Alberta, Lily 50 is married to Charles Smith 32, with Alberta 15, Dewey 16, and Bruce 22., all born in the U.S.

Jacob proved up 320 acres in sections 8, 9 and 17, 2N 45W in 1916.

In 1920 Stanislaus County, California, J.M. Castleman, 60 is farming, born in Indiana, with Elsie 35.

Jacob Martin Castleman 1859-1951 is buried in Escalon, California # 40761122, dying in Stanislaus County.


William A. Castleman proved up two quarters in 15, 2N 45W in 1916.
He married Dove Renfrew in Pulaski County, Missouri March 22, 1917.

He registered for WWWI in Holly, Colorado, born Oct 18, 1884, a teamster, reference Dove.

They're in Stanislaus County, California in 1920, next to J. M. 60 and Elsie 35.
William is 36, Dove 20 born in Missouri, with William 1 born in Colorado.

William Arthur Castleman 1884-1982 is buried in Stanislaus County, California, # 80104814.

In 1916 Red Deer, Alberta, Henry Castleman 28 is married to Sophie 23, with brother Dewey 18 - all were born in the U.S.

Henry Andrew Castleman 1889-1951 is buried in Bentley Alberta # 97195169.

Lawrence Wellington Castleman was born April 21, 1895 at Burwick, Iowa, homesteaded in Alberta, Canada, was in the 14th Cavalry in San Antonio in 1920, farming in Phillips County Montana in 1940, and in Seattle during WWII.

Iona and Sayle Brown are in Alberta in 1916.

In 1940 Los Angeles, Sayle Brown is 52, an insuarance agent, with Iona B. 49 born in Kansas , Marjorie A. 21, Fern P. 20, Bruce A. 18, - these three born in Cnada - Lourohell 12, and Sayle A. 6.

Iona Belle Brown 1890-1978 is buried in Glendale, California # 75786958, with Sayle A. Brown 1888-1963.
