William C. and Mahala Bunn
Mahala was born September 4, 1837 in Harrison County, Indiana to Alanson
and Priscilla Hunter, and married William in Peoria, Illinois about 1859.
| I have a photo album inherited from my grandfather Abner Loren Gray
1868-1932. There are photos in the album labeled 1. Nanny Bunn (girl
about 9 standing, tintype) 2. Bill Bunn, (man with a beard, dark hair,
tintype) 3. Abner Bunn (boy seated on a chair, his arm leaning on a table, tintype). 4. Uncle Abner Hunter=Bill Bunn. names are written on back of photograph. The two men are standing, with hats and military uniforms, and guns on shoulders. This is a paper photo. Possibly civil war. Photographer, Market St., bet 9th and 10th, Louisville, KY. also a 2 cent stamp (orange) on the back , hand cancelled. My great grandmother was Nancy Hunter Gray so I think one of her sisters must have married someone named Bunn. I haven't had much luck finding where the Hunters were from, only a few clues like this. In 1870 Wm. 33 and Mahala 32 are in Champaign County, Illinois. They have Abner 8, Peter 6, and Nellie 4.
Nellie G. died August 12, 1872, at the age of 5 years, 10 months, and 11 days, and is buried in Lynn Grove Cemetery, Champaign County.
In 1880 they're in Bureau County, Illinois - William C. 43, Mahalah 42, Abner J. 18, Peter 16, William W. 6, and Nannie L. 3.
William C. Bunn, an an affidavit for Abner Hunter on 22 June 1886, states
that he is "well acquainted" with Abner and references his enlistment in the US
Army. William attested that he knew that Abner was "a sound man and his marching
to Goldsborough, NC. He broke down completely so he was unable to walk and from
that time until he was mustered out and up to the present time he has been
perfectly disabled to do any kind of manual labor and that he has been
intimately acquainted with him from his enlistment up to the present time."
William C. Bunn executed this affidavit from Wray Co,
Colorado. Appears that Abner was living in Sutherland, O'Brien Co,
Iowa at the time. This being the case, there must have been some continuing
relationship between these two men (ie. brothers-in-law?).
Wm. C. Bunn proved up a quarter in 1893 - meaning he probably arrived about 1886 - in 2S 44W - where the Glendale Cemetery is now. In 1890 Wm. cash-claimed a quarter next to it,.

In 1900 William C. Aug 1836 in Ohio, and Mahalah Sept 1836 in Indiana, have Nannie April 1879 in Illinois, and they are living in Nodaway County, Missouri.
Mahalah Sep 4, 1837 - Nov 24 1901 is buried in the Wray cemetery
In 1906 W.C. wrote that he was living at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Tennessee. "There are 24 very large buildings, fitted up for the accommodation of the men. The barracks is capable of accommodating 2,000 men....... Those who die are placed in the dead house until ready for burial. All are buried with military honors. They have the largest funerals I ever saw. There are pallbearers and mourners, led by a band with martial music. Placed in a fine coffin, draped with the stars and strips, and decorated with beautiful flowers, the corpse is taken to the place of burial, where appropriate religious service is observed."
William C. Bunn, "Infantry CO B 7th Ill Inf Civil War" dying November 15, 1910 is in the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
But in 1910 he won "Best mare, 3 years old or over" at the Yuma County Fair.
Nannie Bunn married Peter E. Zepp February 5, 1903
1902 Robb " County Surveyer Isaac R. Hendrie is having a well drilled on his place. Peter Bunn is doing the work. It is being well drilled."

1908 "Born to Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Bunn, on Monday, November 9, a fine boy."

In 1910 Peter A. 45, Illinois, Eva 37, and Mary E. 6 are in Yuma County, on the same page as one Hitchcock. Next page has Eva's mother and a bunch of her kids, and the David Hendrie family.
In 1920 Eva L., now widowed, and Mary E. 16 are in Yuma County - all the names on the census page are from the Robb area, so they must be living on the farm.
Peter proved up a homestead in 24, 2N 45W, about two miles northeast of Robb, in 1912

Peter A. Bunn - Jun 22, 1864 - May 6, 1919 is in the Wray cemetery
In 1919 Eva L. Bunn was one of the many heirs of "William Henry Hitchcock, deceased."
Eva "Widow of Peter A. Bunn" proved up land in 1920 about four miles northwest.
In 1930 Yamhill County, Oregon, Eva L. Bunn 57 and Mary E. Bunn, 25. Mary is a stenographer at an insurance company.
One tree said she died May 6, 1936 in Yamhill, Oregon.
Another tree said Mary Elizabeth Bunn was born December 17 1903 married Austin Theodore Sanderman - who was buried in 1987 in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville. Mary died February 19, 1980 in Seattle., and the tree said she was buried in McMinnville, Yamhill County, Oregon.
