Josiah B. Whitlock, Arthur A. Whitlock, Levi B. Whitlock

Levi proved up his homestead in section 19, 4N 48W in 1891, so he was one of the first settlers in the area.

Arthur proved up a quarter in 7, 4N 48W in 1894, so he arrived around 1887.  Josiah cash-claimed a quarter to his north in 1891, and Arthur cash-claimed another to his south, also in 1891.

They might be the Minnesota family - Levi, born about 1804 in Connecticut, had a dozen or so kids, including Levu 1835 in Ohio, Josiah 1849 in Ohio, Arthur A. 1867  Minnesota,

There's a Levi B. Whitlock - Apr 4, 1836 - Jun 15, 1897 in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Adams County, Iowa (Levi B. was a civil war veteran and belonged to Co. D. 7th Minn inf. also Co. G. 7th.)

In 1880 Adams County Levi B. is 43, mary 42.  They have Rachel 17, Arthur 13, Nathaneal 11, and Sarah 7.

Winona Minnesota January 20, 1933

Joseph Whitlock of Hastings, Minn., former resident of Winona county, and Civil war veteran, died Tuesday at 7:59 p.m. at the hospital at Hastings, Minn., after a year's illness. Mr. Whitlock was 83 years of age. Death was due to arterlosclerosis. Mr. Whitlock was born in Ohio Feb. 24, 1849, and had resided in Winona county for many years. He lived at Pickwick until 10 years ago when he moved to Hastings. Surviving him are one son, L. Whitlock, St. Paul, and one daughter, Mrs. L. D. Brooks, Austin, Minn. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Hillyer Funeral parlor, the Rev. E. A. Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Busch cemetery at Ridgeway.
 


L.B. was delinquent on taxes for his quarter in 1901.

Also in 1902, Josiah B. Whitlock was one of the defendants in the Empire Land & Cattle suit.

Theo Whitlock claimed land in 4N 46W in 1913 - that's a dozen miles away and twenty years later,
