Yuma County Pioneer Photographs:

James Walker Vogan and Mary Ann Gilbert Rostorck Vogan,   brother Charles W. Vogan,  Mildred
In 1860 Harrison County Missouri, Joseph 36 and Matilda 34 Vogan have Isaac 11, Walker 8, Wallace 5, Sarah 3, and Alice 1.

Mrs. Nancy (Kunkel) Rostock, daughter of Henry Kunkel, died in 1908.  Her children surviving were Mrs. Anna Keeney, Mrs. Henry Meyer (now 71), Mrs. Caroline Rush, and Mrs. Mary Vogan, now 52.  Her husband Ferdinand S. Rostock died October 20, 1882.

In 1885 Brown County, Kansas, J.W. Vogan 31 and Mary Ann 27, have Ida Bell Gilbert 8 and Daisy Vogan 2.

In 1900 Holt County, "Walker " Vogan is 46, Mary A. 40, with Nancy April 1887 in Kansas, Samuel 6,  Ina B. Hoffman Nov 1876 Missouri and her daughter Leta L. Mar 1899 Missouri.  Mary Ann's mother Nancy A. Rostock May 1816 Pennsylvania is with them.

1908 Holt County "Mrs. Belle Coby, of Goodland Kansas, is here visiting her brother, Walker Vogan."

1908 Holt County "Mrs. Mary Ann Vogan was called to Oklahoma last week, her daughter, Mrs. Nancy Watson's, son having been kicked by a horse."

1909 "Mrs. Mary Ann Vogan and son, Sam, left this week for Anadarko and other Oklahoma points, wehre they will spend some time visiting relatives.

In 1910 Idalia precinct, Yuma County, James W. born about 1854 in Indiana, and Mary A. about 1855, have Samuel 16.

1911

Ina is in Ventura County, California in 1910, with Leita L. 11.

One tree said Nancy born April 2, 1886 in Oregon County, Missouri, married John Marriner in 1899, and then Albert Watson in 1900, and died April 4, 1920 in Delano, California. 

The tree said John died in 1908.

James I. Marriner and Patricia Joan (Meyer) Marriner, married in Greeley Sept 9, 1951 had  two adult children, filed for dissolution May 21, 1975.

John W. "Red" Marriner 1905-1963 # # 35486212 and Lucille Mae (Lippstreau) Marriner 1922-1987 are buried in Holdrege, Nebraska.

Sam in 1914 was driving Grandma Rutledge - while going down a steep hill in the Hay gulch, the team ran away, throwing both occupants from the buggy.  Mrs. Rutledge died, but Mr. Vogan was not hurt.

1914 "Grandpa Vogan is very ill at this writing"

August 1914 "Grandpa Vogan, who has been very ill, was taken to Goodland Kan., Sunday.  Mrs. Coby and W. Vogan stayed with him there.  Charlie Shields took them in his auto."

Matilda 1829-1910 and Joseph R. 1827-1914 are buried in Goodland, Sherman County Kansas. # 96534017

James proved up 320 acres  in 15, 3S 45W in 1916.

1916

1917

Samuel registered with an Idalia address, born Nov 25, 1893 at Oregon Missouri.

1918

 In 1920 Wray, James- a teamster- and Mary have granddaughter Mary M. Watson 7,  California, and grandson John W. Mariner, 15, Missouri.,

Mary M. Watson was born Jan 8, 1912 in Merced County, California, mother's name Vogan.  Mary Margaret Watson, 18, daughter of W.P. Watson and Nancy Vogan, married Larry Jerome Williams January 13, 1930 in Los Angeles.

 

Edna Vogan married Thad Smith Sept 17, 1921, recorded in Yuma County.

James -1853-1933 is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Holt County, Missouri # 10847565.  So is Mary Ann 1856-1920 -dying in Franklin Count Kans, per # 10847549.  Her first spouse was John F. Gilbert.

Charles born March 23, 1855, married Catherine Elizabeth "Betty"  Davis October 15, 1876, and died Sept 20, 1937 in Goodland.  The tombstone says Wallace 1855-1937 and Betty 1860-1939.

Charles W. Vogan in 1910 is in Oregon County, Missouri, 52, married to Bettie 47, with Matilda 16, Edna 11, and Fielden 6.

In 1920 Sherman County, Kansas, C.W. and Bettie are living with widowed daughter Mittie Barnett, 42 and her kids Carrie 11 and Melissa 8.

Chas. Vogan married Nettie B. Rescoria Dec 17, 1925, recorded in Kit Carson County.

In 1930 Mildred precinct, James is widowed, with brother Charles W. 75 and his wife Rebecca 72.  Elizabeth Vogan, widow of C.W. Vogan, died in Oregon County Missouri January 14, 1939, to be buried in Goodland Kansas.

Samuel is in Pueblo in 1920, married to Opal, and they're in Los Angeles in 1930.  Samuel 8s 36, Opal 34 -Kentucksy.  Aileen is 10, born inColorado, Edith M. 4 California.

Opal is divorced in 1940 Los Angeles, with Aileen and Edith Marie -none have occupations -  and two roomers.

Samuel is a welder in Los Angeles in 1940, married but no spouse, living with elderly Clara C. Wood, born in Massachusetts.

She's buried Montecito Memorial, Colton, California 1895-1980  # 35919466

Samuel Elby Vogan, born Nov 25, 1893, died Oct 11, 1954 in Los Angeles.
