Earl Harrison, 21, married Cleo Tatum, 16, in Wray Colorado, September 1926. Cleo Frances (Tatum) Harrison is buried in Wauneta, Nebraska # 13661911. She's probably the daughter of Earl Tatum and Lena Leota Hughes, siblings Harry 1907, Helen (Tatum) Loraance, Lillian (Tatum) Walgren, Velma died young and brother died as infant. So Cleo is not an immediate family member.
In 1930 Lincoln County, Kansas, George is 53, Annie 44, with Gerald 14, Maxine 11, Lucille 8 (Colorado), and Essie L. 18. Oklahoma.

Vernon, CO. She attended both grade
school and high school in Barnard, KS,
graduating in 1939. She attended Normal
Training in Lincoln, KS, during 1939 &
1940, receiving her teaching
certificate. She then went on to teach
at Shady Bend, Georgia and Paris country
schools. During WWII she worked at
Cessna Aircraft for a year.
On May 11, 1946, she wed Robert M. Stover in Barnard, KS. They made their home in Denver, CO, for 42 years. During her years in Denver she volunteered at Mt. Vista Nursing Home and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, in which she was active in many church groups and programs. She was employed by Ideal Cement for 5 years and loved being a homemaker. She and her husband enjoyed fishing in the mountains, hiking, snowshoeing and entertained numerous visitors during the 20 years they owned their cabin (Bob-Lou) in Frisco, CO. Many family members and friends spent vacations with Bob and Loucille in the mountains. She returned to her hometown, Barnard, KS, in 1991 after losing her husband of 44 years in 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and active in many organizations, including Jolly Neighbors, FCE Scott Lassies and ABW. She remained in Barnard until her health began to fail, at which time she moved to Assisted Living, Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, where she received exceptional care. She enjoyed each new friend she made, both staff members and residents. Since she was legally blind, she learned each one's name by identifying their voice. They never had to tell her who was entering her apartment or spoke to her in the hall because she knew them the moment they spoke to her. She considered each one a part of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and 6 siblings. She is survived and remembered lovingly as Aunt Ceil by her many nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by a host of friends. |

Probably related to Londine Tatum, who claimed land in Logan County, about fifty miles northwest.

| Funeral services were conducted in Holyoke, Colorado and Madrid,
Nebraska, Sunday afternoon for George A. Tatum, retired farmer, who died
at his home Friday evening, October 25, 1938. Service was held at the Colver Brothers Funeral Home at 12:30 o'clock with Rev. H.L. Taylor, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, in charge. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal Church at Madrid, Nebraska, at 2:30 o'clock, the pastor Rev. E. Parks officiating. Burial was made in the Madrid cemetery. Six nephews served as the pallbearers. Mr. Tatum was born May 26, 1874, in Green County, Indiana, a son of William and Margaret Tatum. He lived in Indiana until he was ten years old, at which time the family moved to western Nebraska, locating near Madrid. Later, they moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, where they resided a short time. The marriage of Mr. Tatum and Elizabeth Schick was solemnized at North Platte, Nebraska, February 9, 1904. Following their marriage, they lived at North Platte and Hershey, Nebraska five years and then located on a farm near Madrid, where they lived 22 years. In 1931, the family moved to Lingle, Wyoming, and in February, 1936, they moved to Holyoke. Prior to moving to Holyoke, Mr. Tatum was engaged in farming. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Tatum; six sons, Floyd of Brandon, Nebraska, Clifton of Lamar, Nebraska, Leo and Herman of Holyoke, Ernest of Hawk Springs, Wyoming, and Chester of Torrington, Wyoming; three daughters, Mrs. John Bigner [Louise] of Hawk Springs, Wyoming, and Dorothy and Ilene of Holyoke; three brothers, Charles Tatum of Wauneta, Nebraska, Earl Tatum of Waverly, Nebraska, and Otis Tatum of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Alice Hegwood of Madrid, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by one sister, a son and a daughter. |
| Herman Oral Tatum, 88, of Ovid died at his home Saturday, Feb. 12,
2005 due to lung cancer. Herman was born October 20, 1916 at Grant, Nebraska to George and Elizabeth Tatum. Herman had three brothers and four sisters plus two stepbrothers. He lived on a farm near Grant, Nebraska where he received his schooling. When Herman was in the 8th grade, the family moved for a short time to Lingle, Wyoming. In 1936 the family moved to Holyoke, where he met and married Dora Conklin on April 8, 1939. They lived in Holyoke, and two daughters were born at this time, Janet Rose Joyce Roeanne. On Jan. 16, 1945 he entered the Army. He took his training at Camp Fannin, Texas, Ft. Ord, California and Portland, Oregon. He went to Hawaii for jungle training and on to Japan where his outfit, the 98th Division, was slated for the main invasion of Japan. When the Japanese surrendered, his outfit was sent in for Army of Occupation. A third daughter, Judy Pauline, was born while Herman was in the service. A law was passed that a father with three children was eligible to be discharged, so he came home on Jan. 17, 1946. The family lived in Holyoke where he worked at the Holyoke Co-op until moving to Hawks Springs, Wyoming to farm with his brother. He was there one year, and then they all moved to Lincoln, Mo. where they lived until March 1949. At this time a fourth daughter was born, Jean Patricia. The family moved back to Holyoke where Herman again worked for the Co-op. In August of 1952 they moved to Ovid where he managed the Ovid Grain Company until his health forced him out because of the dust. He worked at the Ovid High School as janitor and bus driver. He went to work for the Sedgwick County Road and Bridge as a maintainer driver, where he worked for 25 years before retiring in May 1983. He enjoyed his retirement doing yard work, gardening and his growing family. He was a member of the Ovid Methodist Church, a lifetime member of VFW Post 3591 and was a retired member of the Ovid Fire Department. |
| Dorothy Marie Crabtree was the seventh of eight children born to
George Athel Tatum and Elizabeth Catherine Schick on June 3rd 1926 in Madrid, NE and graced the earth with her presence and love until her death on January 1, 2009 in Denver, CO. Dorothy met and married Ivan Cecil Crabtree on August 14, 1942 in Imperial, Nebraska. To this union four children were born: Cecil Ivan Crabtree -born May 29, 1943, Carolyn Ann Young - born October 16, 1946, Donna Kaye Kopcha - born September 11, 1952, Gary Lee Crabtree - born November 10, 1956. She worked as a "Flipper Runner" for Gates Rubber Company and retired in 1987 after 23 years. Following her retirement from Gates she started her own ceramic business in the basement of her home where she not only made and sold ceramics but she also held classes and taught others the fine art of ceramics. Unfortunately due to health reasons caused from mixing, firing and cleaning the ceramics, she had to close the business after ten years. Besides ceramics there were so many other crafts that she loved to do, she made decorative cakes for birthday's, parties, and wedding's, she crocheted, made flower arrangements just to name a few. One of her favorite hobbies was to cook, she loved buying new cook books, reading the recipes, trying them out and loaning her cook books to family and friends. She loved entertaining and hosting parties to play cards and Bunco with friends and family. Just this last Christmas she was hostess for her Bunco Club and eight of her lady friends. On the weekends her two daughters Carolyn and Donna would come over and they would have a "Girls Day Out" where they would spend the day together doing their weekly shopping, grabbing a bite to eat and then finish the day playing cards. |
| Iliene Viola Beard was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Madrid, Neb., to
George Athel and Elizabeth Catherine (Schick) Tatum. Iliene died at
Regent Park Nursing Home in Holyoke on March 10, 2014. Iliene moved to Holyoke when she was a young girl. She attended Holyoke schools and graduated from Holyoke High School. She went to work as a young girl at a turkey farm that was located just north of Holyoke. She met Vincen Beard, and they were married Sept. 15, 1946, in Torrington, Wyo., and then moved to the Champion, Neb., area, where she spent most of her time being a wife and mother. Later, Vincen and Iliene moved to the Lamar, Neb., area, where she was a member of a knitting club and was busy taking her children to 4-H meetings and activities. After the kids got older, she ventured out to work outside the home. She started cleaning houses in Imperial, Neb., and then later started working in Holyoke at Shew’s Jewelry. They moved to Holyoke in 1970, where she remained working at Shew’s Jewelry until the store closed. She also worked at Dr. Bob Wiest’s dental office and at several of the restaurants in Holyoke as a second job. She helped Vincen with remodeling the house, as well. Her favorite hobby was her flowers in the yard and her gardening. She also enjoyed sharing her garden crop with her neighbors and friends. After Vincen died, she became a volunteer at Melissa Memorial Hospital as a greeter. She enjoyed socializing with the people who came in. Due to health issues, she entered Regent Park in December of 2013 and resided there until her death. Iliene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Tatum; her husband, Vincen Earl Beard; her sisters, Louise, Mildred and Dorothy; brothers, Leo, Ernest, Chester and Herman; and daughters, Cynthia and Debbie. She is survived by two sons, Danny Beard and wife Luana of Marion, Ark., and Tim Beard of Boise City, Okla.; two daughters, Barbara Statz and husband Bob of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Patty Coyne of Holyoke; sisters-in-law, Maxine Beard of Imperial, Marlene Beard of Imperial, Thelma Gibbs of Oxford, Neb., and Lois Beard of Loveland; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many friends. The memorial service was held April 26 at First Christian Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Merle Powell officiating with friend Paul Wickenkamp. Interment was held at the Lamar Cemetery. |
