James E. and Marion E.  Ashley, Jephtha J. and Cora B. Ashley, William C. Ashley,    Mildred
 

The couples were cousins,  grandchildren of James Ashley 1812-1895, dying in Edgar, Nebraska, with sons James - married Louisa A. Meacham, had Jeptha in 1867 and James Edward in 1868,  and Charles marrying Mary Esther Fratt, having Marion Edith in 1867 and Cora B. in 877..

History of Walworth County, Wisconsin "A steam grist mill was built in 1875 by James Ashley, with the help of liberally subscribing citizens. It was large enough for local needs, having four runs of mill stones."

In 1880 Walworth County, Wisconsin, James Ashley is a miller, born 1837 New York, with Louiesa 37, Louisa 14 Jeptha 13, James 11, and Jesee 3.

In 1885 Clay County, Nebraska, James Ashley is 73, born in New York, living with son Charles E. 46 his wife Mary E. 39, and their kids Marian E. 17, Grace A. 14, Cora 7, and George E. 4.

    Laird "H.H. Ashley of Edgar, Nebraska, came in Monday night."

James E. proved up a quarter in 30, 3S 44W in 1898.

1898 Mount Hope items "Jim and Jep Ashley, Wm. Ker, and Mrs. L.T. Custer make final proof the 15th.  Will make the trip to Akron in a prairie schooner."

1899 Wray "Ashley brothers sold a bunch of sheep this week."

"Jim Ashley is building a new house on the Arickaree."

Marion  proved up 160 acres in 23 and 24, 3S 45W in 1900.  Jeptha J. proved up 160 acres in 18 and 19, 3S 4W in 1898 - about a mile away from Marion's.

The 1900 census has James born Sept 1868 and Marion E. Oct. 1867, both Wisconsin, newly married, farming at Glendale precinct.

June 23, 1900 Vernon items "A baby girl arrived at the home of James Ashley."

This might be James -father of James and Jeptha.  He and Louise are in Moody County, South Dakota in 1900, with son Jese M. born Feb 1877 in Wisconsin.

 

1902 "Mr. J.E. Ashley and family have gone to Flandreau, South Dakota, for a summer's outing, and visit to his parents."

  1904

James Edward Ashley -May 24, 1907- March 15,1908 is buried in Cody.

In 1910 Park County, Wyoming, James is 41, Marion 42, Margarite 9, Fern 8, Helen C. 6, Elise J. 4, and Louisa J. 1.

 In 1920 Park County, Wyoming, James is 51, Marion 52, with Margaret 19, Fern E. 17, Helen 16, - these three in Colorado, with Elsie 14, Jean 11, and Florence 8 born in Wyoming.  George E. Ashley brother  is 39, divorced, born in Nebraska.

Louisa Jean Ashley - Dec 3, 1908 - Nov 7, 1929 is buried in Cody.

In 1930 Park County Jas. E. is 61, Marian E. 62, with Fern E. 28, Florence M. 18, and George 48.

James Eugene Ashley died July 11, 1948 in Cody, Wyoming buried   # 39681204 with Marion 1867-1956.

 

 Helen C. Lindstrom, 89, died Monday morning, April 19, 1993 at the Powell Nursing Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 1993, at Easton Funeral Home in Powell, Wyo.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Cody, Wyo.

She's buried next to Leonard A. (Agnar Leonard) Lindstrom 1898-1968.  He was born Dec 7, 1898 in Burlington, Iowa, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Stein Lindstrom.
 
Margaret married Elmer Robert Dempster, died February 7, 1996 and is buried in Laramie, Wyoming # 73536167.

Elmer R. Dempster, 36, died Sunday, June 14, 1936 at the home of his parents, east of town. Cody, Wyoming. His relatives found him in one of the buildings at the ranch.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon and interment was at Riverside cemetery.

Deceased was born at Peoria, IL 35 years ago. He came to Cody when a small boy and received much of his education in the Cody Schools. Finishing school he became attached to Foods Machine Corp at San Jose, CA. He was in their employ for a number of years in San Jose and then moved to Chicago, IL. He returned to Cody several years ago and since has been employed in the park and at various garages in the town more recently working at the Riggs Motor company. He is survived by his wife Margaret Ashley Dempster, three small children, Helen 10, Robert 7, and Shirley Mae 3.

Margaret H. Corbridge died unexpectedly in Tucson, Ariz., February 25, 2013 while traveling to visit family. She was 86.

She was born May 30, 1926 in San Jose, Calif., to Margaret I. (Ashley) and Robert "Elmer" Dempster. In 1927 the family moved to Wisconsin and then moved to Cody in 1929 at the start of the Great Depression where they remained.

She had two younger siblings, Robert Dempster and Shirley (Dempster) Norman, who preceded her in death.

On Sept. 10, 1949 she married James R. Corbridge in Cody. They were married for 48 years until James' death on Feb. 6, 1997.

Margaret graduated from high school in Cody in 1944. She then attended the University of Wyoming graduating with her bachelor's degree in medical technology in 1948. She later obtained her master's degree in microbiology in 1972. While in college, Margaret had various part-time jobs as an office worker for Hoyt Hall, a wool tech for Wool Records and a lab assistant in the chemistry department.

Her professional career started as a medical technologist working to monitor the employees who worked at the Hanford Site in connection with the Manhattan Project in Richland, Wash. After her marriage, Jim and Margaret moved to Cheyenne, where she worked in the hospital laboratory.

In the late 1950s they moved to Laramie and Margaret worked briefly for the Medical Group of physicians before starting her career at the University of Wyoming in 1959. She started as an instructor for ag/biochemistry, later as an instructor for med tech and finally retiring as an assistant professor in med tech in 1989.

Robert J. Dempster, 80, of Tucson, Ariz., died unexpectedly in his sleep Oct. 4, 2008.

He had not been ill although he had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

He was born in West Bend, Wis., on Aug. 23, 1928. He was raised in Cody by his mother, long-time school teacher Margaret Ashley Dempster. He graduated from Cody High School and the University of Wyoming where he earned a B.S. in electrical engineering.


He served in the Army at the end of World War II and later had a long career as an electrical engineer in various industries.

He lived in southern California for many years and retired to Tucson in 1991. He had attended Cody High School reunions in recent years.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years DeAnn Dempster, daughters Deborah Boggess of St. Clair, Mich., and Denise (Mark) Cattern of Chino Hills, Calif., son David (Shelli) Dempster of Encinitas, Calif., sister Margaret Corbridge of Laramie and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Doreen Talo Dempster, mother Margaret Dempster and sister Shirley Norman of Tucson.

A funeral was held at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista.

Shirley Mae (Dempster) Norman, born 1935, died Dec 30, 2006 in Tucson,Arizona.
Margaret was involved in many organizations from Camp Fire Girls when her kids were young to Zonta, The Laramie Women's Club, The Wyoming Territorial Park Historical Association, Albany County Genealogical Society, PEO Chapter AX, Wyoming State Historical Society and the Laramie Lyceum. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a 65-year member of the KD Sorority.

During the summer months, Margaret would spend her weekends at her mountain cabin. She liked to watch the birds and wildlife, visit friends and read. As it got more difficult for her to walk, she took to riding her ATV to keep up on the happenings of the White Rock Estates community. She enjoyed having company and always had a bed and a meal for her visitors. She will be missed by many people whom she touched during her lifetime.

Margaret is survived by her two children, Kay (Rick) Soderberg of Laramie, Mark (Tish) Corbridge also of Laramie, and four grandsons. She was very proud of her four grandsons, Dean Soderberg (Denver), Evan Soderberg (Laramie), Chase Corbridge (Loveland) and Dusty Corbridge (Laramie), and she faithfully attended the school functions, graduations, soccer games and anything else they had going on.
 

 

Another web source says he was James Edward Ashley, marrying Marion Edith Ashley.

In 1940 Park County, Wyoming, Florence M. Brown, 28, and Paul W. Brown 30 have James M. -eleven months.

Florence Ashley Brown - Oct 22, 1911 - Oct 7, 1988 is buried in Cody.  Paul Brown, dying in 1961, is also listed there.

Fern Ashley, 28, born at "Idelinia" (has to be Idalia), married A.V. Kinder (born 1904 at Whitehall, Montana to David Kinder and Margaret Blankenship) October 29,  1932 in Billings, Montana.

Fern and A.V. ("Render" in the Ancestry index)  are in Hot Springs County, Wyoming in 1940, where they were in1935  They have Don A. , born in Wyoming.  Donald Ashley Kinder is a sophomore at the University of Wyoming in 1954.

Fern 1902-1982 # 80022519 and A.V. Kinder 1907-2001 are buried in Cody.

Elsie Julia Giberson, born Oct 21, 1905 in Cody, died February 1994 in Powell, Wyoming, buried in Cody # 43284635.  She's the only Giberson in that cemetery's records.

In 1900 Glendale precinct, Jephtha J. Ashley, 33 married two years to Cora B. 23, are farming.

1901 "Jep Ashley and wife returned from a long visit in Dakota."  James Ashley, Sr. 1836-1909 is buried in Flandreau, Moody County, South Dakota  # 76976906.

1904 "J.J. Ashley and family left this week for Geneva Nebraska where they will make their home in the future.  Mr. Ashley formerly lived over on the Arickaree.

In 1909 Jeptha J. Ashley of Vernon made application to lease state land in 20, 3S 44W.

In 1910 Yuma County, "Jasper" Ashley is 41, Cora 32.

Cora 1877-1916 is buried in Edgar, Nebraska. 27475745

Jeptha J. Ashley married Minnie W. Roemich January 1, 1918, recorded in Crowley County.

In 1920 Lincoln County, Colorado, Jepsha J. is 52, Minnie W. 33, with Willey L. five months.

In 1930 Lincoln County Jeptha 62 and Minnie W. 42 have Willey L. 10, Jay J.7, and Lee J. 4.

Minnie (widow of Jeptha) is in Denver in 1951, living at 1277 Verbena.

Jeptha J. 1867-1939 and Minnie W. 1887-1959 are buried in Ordway, Colorado.'

1904 Idalia items "Geo Ashley has been spending a few weeks with Eads Lehman."

George Edward Ashley registered in Alliance Nebraska, nearest relative Mrs. Esther Ashley of Geneva, Nebraska.  He was born April 18, 1881.
