John E. and Martha Demmon, mother  Elizabeth Demmon, Logan.
 

In 1870 Menard County are A.  "Dennion" 62, New York, Eliza 52, Indiana, Nancy 23 and John 20, both Illinois

John E. Demmon married Martha A. Renfros October 3, 1872 in Menard County Illinois.  (Naomi's death certificate said her mother was Martha "Rentho" born in Ottumwa, Iowa)

In 1850 Keokuk County Iowa John and Selitha Renfrow have a bunch of kids, including Rebecca and Martha.

In 1856 Keokuk County, Iowa John Rentfro is 50, Tabitha 45, Wm. 21, Nancy Jane 19, Joseph 17, rebecca 16, Margaret 14, John 10, and Martha 7.

In 1870 Keokuk County, Iowa John "Rentper" is 64, Lilieta 59, Jos. A. 36, Levina 28, Margt 28, and Martha 21.

KEOKUK COUNTY BIOGRAPHIES

John S. and Telitha (Hollenbeck) Rentfro, the former of whom was born March 1, 1806, in Kentucky and was taken when young to Illinois by his grandfather, by whom he was reared to manhood.  John S. grew up a farmer, and with his neighbors took part in the Black Hawk war.  He married Telitha Hollenbeck, who was born in Kentucky in 1810, a daughter of Abraham Hollenbeck, who moved to Illinois and there reared his children.  This family was of Dutch descent.  

In 1849 Mr. Rentfro moved to Keokuk county, Iowa, and lived in Steady Run township for six years, removing then for a short time to Sigourney, and about 1882 located on the farm of two hundred acres in Van Buren township, which is now the property of our subject.  Mr. Rentfro was a hard-working, industrious man and made valuable improvements wherever he located.  In political sentiment he was a Republican.  

A family of twelve children was born to him and wife, as follows:  Mary, Elizabeth, James Allen, William, Nancy, Joseph, Rebecca, Margaret, John, Perry, Robert and Martha; Mary, Nancy, Perry and Robert being deceased.

John 1806-1881  and "Tllitha" 1810- January 27, 1872 are buried in the Rayburn Cemetery, Keokuk County.  So is Lovina, age 30, dying Nov 16, 1872

Margaret married Nelson H. Williams Aug 8, 1866 in Keokuk County.   One tree says Nelson died Jan 4, 1869 in Cherokee County, Kansas. FAG  12681432 has him born April 17, 1837.  It says his father James Douglas Williams died in Cherokee County in 1872.

July 28, 1919 in Davenport, Iowa  Edna Elizabeth Gordon married Maurice W. Smith.  She said her father was Wm Febuary, mother Margaret Renfro

In 1880 Mason County, Illinois a J.E. Demmon, 30 and M.A., 30 have daughters J.P. 5,  Otha 3.  and Naomi six months.  His mother E.E. 62 is with them

John proved up a quarter in 12, 4S 43W in 1892, and Elizabeth cash-claimed a quarter next to it in 1891.

In 1895 Mandonia MUST BE MACEDONIA, Pottawattamie County, Iowa is an Andrie Demmon, 10, born in Illinois and an Elna S. Demmon, 5, born in Colorado.  They're with  Rebecca H. Rayburn, 54 and Bertha Wilson 18.  So their mother must have died between 1889 and 1894, and John's two daughters AUDREY and FRONA are living with John's sister.

Rebecca H Rentfro b: 1 Aug 1840 in Illinois - is on Austin Barnett Rayburn's FindAGrave. but hers has birth of May 19, 1832 - died Dec 24, 1918.  His said they married Aug 4, 1862 in Keokuk County Iowa.

Nancy Jane Rentfro born 1838 in Marion County Iowa married Austin Nov 30, 1857, died 1861 in Keokuk County, and Austin married Rebecca H. Rentfro born Aug 1, 1840 in Marion County, died Feb 2, 1907 in Pottawattamie County.  In 1850 Keokuk County John and Selitha have Mary E. 20, Elizabeth 18, James 16, Wm 15, Nancy P. 13, Joseph 11, Rebecca 2, Margaret 6, John 4, and Martha 1.

In 1895 Page County, Iowa J.E. Demmon, 65 born in Illinois, widowed.

John is in Atchison County, Missouri in 1900 - widowed,  born March 1846 in Illinois, with Neoma Dec 1878 Illinois and Sophronia May 1889 in Colorado.  So that confirms this is our John.

In 1900 Utha December 1877 in Illinois, is married to Harvey Davis Sept 1873 Iowa, and they're living in Merrick County, Nebraska.  They have Nesta Dec 1898, and James A Davis, father, and Audrey Demon, born February 1884 in Illinois, sister-in law. 

The informant for sister Naomi's 1942 death certificate was Mrs. H.E. Davis of Stratton, Nebraska.

So John and Martha had another daughter after the 1880 census.

Sophrona E. Demon married Monty Earl Ellsworth August 19, 1906 in Quitman, Nodaway County, Missouri.  Monty was born June 10, 1882 in Quitman,  and died July 1938 in Quitman. (Wife Flor....)

Frona E. Ellsworth is living in Colorado Springs in 1952, 1957 and 1958, living at 1030 S. Tejon. Her will was probated there in 1959. She's buried in Colorado Springs.

In 1910 Eliza E. Demon, 83 is with her daughter Margaret and N.W. Brucker in Nodaway County, Missouri, so she could have been the Elizabeth putting up the money for the cash claim.

She might be the Eliz Demmon, born 1818, buried 1906 in Howard County Nebraska.

In 1910 John Demmon, widowed, is living with his sister Margaret Bracken in Atchison County, Missouri.

In 1920 Hayes County Nebraska John is with Harve E. and Itha M. Davis, Paul E 14, born in Missouri,   Nesta G. Foster and her husband Carl L. and their seven-month Floyd L.

In 1930 Nesta G. 29 ?? is married to Charles O. Bortner in Hitchcock county, son Lavan Foster 11, is also with them.

In 1930 Paul E. is still in Hitchcock county , married to Thelma L.  They have Paul E. 2 and William H. - two months.

In 1940 Hitchcock County they have Paul E. 11, William Harvey 10, Madeline 7, Norma Jean 6, Gladys Marie 4, Charlotte Nadina 2, and Stanley Eugene one month.

Charlie Thomas "Chuck" Anderson, 76, died Monday (Sept. 12, 2005) at Community Hospital of McCook from complications of Cystic Fibrosis, making him one of the oldest patients.

He was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Hitchcock County to Henry and Lena (Cole) Anderson. He grew up in Ovid, Colo., until moving with his family to Trenton when he was 14-years-old.

On July 10, 1947, he entered the United States Army, where he completed his education. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to Trenton to graduate.

He married Z. Jean Davis on Aug. 4, 1951.

He worked construction on the Trenton Dam. In 1953, they moved to Denver, Colo., where he graduated from barber school. He was a barber in Denver for 23 years. In 1976, they came to McCook, where he built two homes and began working maintenance at El Dorado Manor Nursing Home in Trenton and Highland Park in McCook.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and McCook Elks Lodge 1434.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Allen D., Joe, Elvin and James Anderson; four sisters, Marie King, Louise Anderson, Lola Heble and Bertha Jones; his father and mother-in-law, Paul "Bob" and Thelma Davis; brother-in-law, Stan Davis; sisters-in-law, Gladys Lorimer and Delores Davis.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Anderson of McCook; son, Curtis Anderson and wife, Michelle of McCook; daughter, Shari Laituri of McCook; eight grandchildren, Kenny Laituri, Andrea Laituri, Jeffery, Daniel, Delton and Jonathon Anderson and Mikaiyah and Arianna Anderson; one great-granddaughter, Hayly Laituri; two brothers, Clyde Anderson of Trenton and Robert Anderson and wife, Lila of Brighton, Colo.; sisters, Ellen Barlow and Evelyn Tompkins of Trenton; sisters-in-law, Verba Anderson of Trenton, Madeline Stengel of Denver, Colo., Charlotte Williams of McCook and Debra Nelson of McCook; brothers-in-law, Bill Davis and wife, Gwen of Trenton and Paul Davis of Denver.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be at the Trenton Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Walker officiating. Memorials may be given in Charlie's name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Paul Edgar Davis Feb 28, 1905 - Oct 1, 1986 and Thelma Jul 24, 1907 - Mar 16 1997 are in the Trenton cemetery.

In 1930 Hitchcock County Nebraska a John E. Demmon 80, Illinois widowed- father-in-law - Harve E. and Itha M. Davis

In 1940 Hitchcock County "Hoove"  and "Iva M" Davis have grandson L.T. Foster, 20, born in Iowa.  Hoove is custodian of the village streets. and L.T. is a bookkeeper at the bank.

John is buried in the Trenton cemetery there.

Paul Edgar Davis, Utha's son, is also there - Feb 28, 1905 - Oct 1, 1986

Itha M. Davis (wid Harvey) is in Denver in 1958, living at 478 Pennsylvania.

Naomi is  in Nodaway County in 1910.  She's 30, married to John V. Smith, 53, born in Indiana.  They're with a bunch of Smith kids.  Death certificate October 16, 1942 in Nodaway County.  Naomi Virginia Smith born December 2, 1879 in Mason City, Illinois. John was still alive at 86 !
