Paul and Henry's uncle Zeph Roberts had settled in Kansas after serving in the Civil War
| ZEPH ROBERTS, who struggled with the adversities of early life
in Kansas and followed the march of civilization along the line of
several frontiers from Montgomery County westward, has been a resident
of Finney County since 1891 and has attained that happy vantage ground
of life where he can survey a satisfactory career of material achievements, the
rearing of industrious and capable children, and enjoy the many honors
worthily bestowed by community esteem.
Mr. Roberts has lived out a life of more than three quarters of a century. He was born in Madison County, Illinois, April 29, 1841. His father, William Roberts, was born in Kentucky and about 1830 moved from Cumberland County of that state to Madison County in Southern Illinois. In 1832 he was a member of the first mounted rifles in the Blackhawk war. He was a practical farmer and died in Illinois in the fall of 1844. William Roberts married Sarah Champ, who died in January, 1888, in Haskell County, Kansas, when almost eighty years of age. Her father, Maj. Richard Champ, served with the command of Gen. Francis Marion in the Second South Carolina Dragoons during the Revolution. He afterward moved west to Kentucky, became a planter and died in Cumberland County. William Roberts and wife had the following children: Maria, who married James Claridge and died in Jersey County, Illinois; William C., a Union soldier who died in Scott County, Illinois; Zepheniah, of this sketch; Mrs. Sarah Thompson, living in Pike County, Illinois; and George, who served in the Union army and lives in Adams County, Illinois

In 1880 Henry is with parents James and Maria Claridge in Jersey County, Illinois (James and Julia Ann are probably the children of John and Sarah Claridge, living in Jersey County in 1850. James was 33, Julia Ann 8. James and his wife are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Grafton, Jersey County)
In 1900 Idalia precinct is Henry E. Claridge, born Oct 1872 in Illinois, father Tennessee, mother Illinois. He's a farm laborer, living with uncle Patrick McClusky, June 1831 Ireland and Julia A. May 1841 Illinois, who've never had children. A "servant" Harry Nixon June 1887 Kansas is with them.
One tree said Henry Ellsworth was born October 1872 in Jersey County, Illinois, and died there May 9, 1902. The Jersey Democrat said "Henry Claridge of Shiloh committed suicide."

The "Heirs of Henry E. Claridge" proved up a quarter in 5, 4S 43W in 1905.
P.S. Claridge married Ollie Pearl Crites February 10, 1904.
Paul proved up two quarters in 34, 5S 43W in 1913, making his three-year proof with witnesses Leon J. Wilson, Walter L. Crites, Edward E. Duncan, all of Hale, and Albert E. Rice of Morris, Colorado.

W.F. Crites of Hale was in Wray to meet his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Claridge, who just returned from Arkansas. (one of the newpapers got the name wrong ?)
In 1910 Hale Paul S. 29, Illinois has been married six years to Olive P., 24, Kansas. Four children, two living. Willena L. 5 -Arkansas- and James H. 3, Colorado. Next household is Walter Crites, 25, Kansas, single
Paul was delinquent on taxes in 1914 for the northeast quarter of 5, 4N 43W, so he was probably one of the heirs of Henry.
1915 Hale "Mrs. Paul Claridge was one of the numerous shoppers in our town Saturday."
Paul Sidney Claridge registered with an Idalia address, saying he was born March 19, 1881
In 1920 Lansing precinct they've added Lorena M. 9, Leola P. 7, Maudie F. 5, and Nettie O. twenty months.
1922 William Claridge and Glen Barber were eighth grade graduates from District 62 (this might be WILLENA)
July 29, 1922 Willena Luciel Claridge married Louis Peter Bonifas.
In 1930 Armel. Leola 17, Lorena 19, Maud 16, Nettie O. 11, Lillian M. 9, Buelah F. 8, Elberta P. 7, son Jessie P. 5, Eloise eight months.
In 1940 Paul and Pearl are in King County Washington, with Jessie Paul and Ellouise. Paul is a watchman at a recreational park.

Paul registered for WWII there, saying he was born in Grafton, Illinois, and Mrs. Matt Sevilles would always know his address.
Paul died April 1965 in Seattle, Olive in 1962, and they're buried in Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park, King County.
Beulah Fern Claridge 1922-2004 and Brownie Sevilles 1911-1999 are also in the Enumclaw cemetery.

In 1920 Amelia A. Rolew, 56 is in Hale, and with her are children Fredis (Fred) L. Crites, 20, Floyd L., 17, Byran R. 15 and Harley R. 12.
