Herbert O. and May (Steadman) Ellis
Herbert cash-claimed a quarter in 31 3S 43W in 1890. That's the same time and next to the Chute brothers.
Wonder if his wife May knew the Chute's..... May's parents were from New Brunswick, and the Chutes from Nova Scotia.
One tree said she was Mary Etta "May" Steadman, born May 1, 1859 in Saint John, New Brunswick, married Harold Otis Ellis January 1, 1888 in Moncton, New Brunswick, and died February 22, 1941 in Pueblo Colorado.
The tree said May's mother was Maria Augusta Steadman, born October 27 1835 in Kings County, Nova Scotia, and father was Dr. John Abraham Steadman born in New Brunswick in 1836, died 1899 in Maine. And the Steadmans married the Chutes - so they might have been cousins.
In 1900 Herbert is a drug clerk in La Jara, Conejos County, Colorado. He was born Dec 1862 in Maine, May May 1865 in Maine with both parents born in New Brunswick, and Harold J. August 1894 in Colorado.
In 1910 Arapahoe County - probably Denver, H.O. Ellis is a druggist, with May, both 48 born in Maine, with Joseph H., 18, born in Colorado. Joseph's registration for WWI said he was born in La Jara -
In 1920 all three are in Limon, Colorado, with Joseph working in the drug store with Harold.
In 1921 Joseph H. transferred a lot in Limon to Herbert O. Ellis
Joseph is a pharmacist in 1930 in Denver, married to Jeannette, and in 1940 he's a pharmacist in Holyoke
Mae E. (wid Herbert O) is in the 1934 Denver directory, living at 2834 W 24th
She was at that same address in 1929, "Mrs. May E. Ellis"
She told the census taker in 1930 that she was born in Canada.
Herbert O. Ellis probate was in Lincoln County in 1927. So he's likely the one in Denver's Fairmount Cemetery 1861 - 1927
The tree said Joseph Harold Ellis died December 1980 in Denver. That matches the Fairmont stone with ELLIS - J. Harold 1894 -1980 and Janet L. 1897 - 1972.
