 John J. and Edith M.  (Eckley) Zepp

John J, son of John and Elizabeth Zepp, was born January 12, 1830 in Pennsylvania. He married Edith M. Eckley in Fluton County, Ill Dec 28, 1851 - his obituary said all seven children were living.

 John Zepp cash-claimed a quarter in 2N 45W, section 35 in 1891, just south of Robb.

John J.  claimed a quarter by Timber in 1896 in section 15  of 1N 45W - between Wray and Eckley

Peter E. Zepp proved up a homestead in section 11  1N 45W in 1894

1907 "Wesley Zepp is down from Denver visiting his brother, P.E. Zepp, and other relatives and friends during the Christmas season."

1907 "W.W. Bunn is reported very sick at the home of his son-in-law, P.E. Zepp, west of town."

1917 "Mr. and Mrs. Will Zepp of Fort Collins, visited in Wray and vicinity with J.W. and P.E. Zepp, west of town and with Mr. and Mrs. O.S. Brady."

John W. Zepp cash-claimed a quarter in section 3, 1N 45W in 1891, and a Timber claim next to in in 1895.

1900 Mrs. Will Zepp of Wray was appointed on the music committee for the Eckley Old Settlers September 3 reunion. 

June 1903

John W. was appointed administrator of John J.'s estate.

1907 "Mrs. Faulkner, a sister of Jas. Kimber, arrived in Wray yesterday for a visit.  Mrs. Faulkner is the mother of Mrs. J.W. Zepp, who formerly resided in Wray."

1914 "At an election of officers for the Sunday school last Sunday, J.W. Zepp was chosen superintendent.  Mr. Zepp is an ardent church worker and is well equipped to fill the position to which he was appointed. - Merino Breeze."

1917 "The J.W. Zepp's of the Zepp ranch, were host and hostess to Mrs. Parvin of Crook, the first of the week."

1917 "J.W. Zepp of the Robb ranch and Mrs. O.S. Brad of west of town (Wray) left Friday afternoon for Martinsburg, Iowa, where they went to attend the funeral of a sister-in-law."

Louisa Zepp claimed a quarter in 22, 2N 44W in 1900 by Timber.

1902

Wray

 

In 1903 Wray the Zepp Bros were advertising clothing at their store.

In 1904 they sold the store to E.B. Borland "Of the retiring firm C.W. Zepp will remain in Wray, while J.W. has removed to Denver, his family leaving this week."

PUBLIC SALE November 23, 1904 at the Zepp ranch at Robb, Colorado.  Sale to commence at 10 a.m. - 60, moe or less, head of mixed cattle, consisting of calves, heifers, cows and steers, ranging from six months to 7 year old cows 3 head horses.

In section 10,  joining John W, Charles W.  also cash-claimed in 1891 and Timber in 1895.

1905

1915 "Mrs. Faulkner and Mr. and Mrs. Zepp, of Fort Collins, friends of Mrs. Sadie Kissinger and Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Russell, were visiting here Thursday.  Mr. Zepp was county clerk of Yuma County twenty years ago, when Yuma was the county seat."

Peter was born about 1863 in Illinois

1909 "P.E. Zepp and family, formerly of Robb, who left Yuma county a few weeks ago for Tennessee, with the intention of making their home in that state, have located at Tullahoma, Tennessee."

1909 "In a letter to Wray friends, it is learned that Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zepp have become dissatisfied with their location in Tennessee and have removed to California."

In 1910 Peter E., Nannie, Edward W 6. , and Frank, 4, are living in Medford, Oregon.

  1914

In 1920 Limon, Peter, 57 Illinois and Nancy 41 Illinois have Frank 14, Colorado, Harold 9, Oregon, and Grace 3, Colorado,.

In 1930 Lane County Oregon Frank is a logger.  Nancy L. widowed and Grace are living with him.

In 1935 Nannie L. (wid Peter E) is in Yakima, Washington, living at 1309 Lincoln Avenue.  Frank W. and Grace E are at the same address.

Nancy L. Zepp, age 61, died January 23, 1940 in Yakima City.

Harold W. Zepp  - May 22, 1910 - May 8, 1988 and Florence May Davis Zepp - 1915-2006 are buried at Woodbine Cemetery, Puyallup , Washington.

Frank W. Zepp -1905 -1977 and Nettie E. Zepp 1910-2004 are buried at Washington Memorial Park near Seattle

Grace Eleanor Hart, 93, a longtime Cowiche resident, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011, at Cedar Hills Adult Residential Care in Yakima.
 Grace was born May 14, 1917, in Wray, Colorado, to Peter Edward Zepp and Nancy Louise (Bunn) Zepp. Grace was the youngest of four children, and the only daughter. Her father, a cattle rancher and farmer, died when she was about five years old, and the family moved to Oregon in the early 1920's. Grace and her mother moved to the Yakima Valley in the mid 1920's, where Grace finished high school in Cowiche, and met her husband-to-be, Jack Hart. They were married in 1940.
Grace worked outside the home much of her life, for Del Monte Cannery, Gray Cross Drugs, and for the Yakima Herald-Republic. She later worked for Montgomery Ward, managing the Catalog Department until her retirement in 1980.
 Grace was a talented gardener, and was able to make anything grow. She loved to read, and to sew and crochet. Grace loved animals, and she valued the many special cats and dogs in her life. They always brought her joy. Jack and Grace together enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. Every fall, they spent time at Cow Camp near Rimrock Lake. Grace enjoyed the beach as her special place, and Jack and Grace made trips to the Washington and Oregon coasts. They were able to take many trips together, especially after they both retired; highlights included a trip to Alaska and two trips to Hawaii.
 Family was always at the core of Grace's life. She and Jack raised their children with the absolute certainty that they were loved, and that their parents' commitment to each other was forever. Her family always knew where "home" was. In Grace's own words:
 "I know as surely as I have ever known anything, that there is no defense as strong, no comfort as sure, no strength as enduring, as the strength and comfort of family."
 
 Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edward, Frank, and Harold Zepp; a grandson, Ladd Wickstrom, and a granddaughter, Kim Hart Skaggs.
 
 She is survived by her loving husband, Jack, at home in Cowiche; four children: Nancy Gardner of Cowiche, Renee Wetch of Yakima, Jerry (Wende) Hart of Princeton, Oregon, and Jackie (Ted) Parr of Olympia; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
 
 Grace's family wishes to especially thank the caregivers and staff at Cedar Hills Adult Residential Care for their compassion and loving care for Grace in the last four years. Her life there was filled with joy. Thanks also to Lower Valley Hospice staff for their support and guidance.
 
 Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2011, at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Interment will follow at West Hills Memorial Park.
 
 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or Lower Valley Hospice, in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, 1010 West Yakima Ave., Yakima, WA 98902.
