In 1880 Adair County, Iowa, W.S. Ridout is 37, M.A. 32, with T. 15, S.A. 13 (SARAH), I. 11, C. 9, S. 7,. R.B. 4, Wm. 1, with I. Ridout 84 and S.A 74.

In 1885 Madison County, William S. Ridout is 41, Creabbelle 37, Sarah A. 17, Isaac C. 16,. Clarence L. 13, Saul O. 11, Ruth B. 8, William E. 6, and John E. 4.
They're next to the Nole C. Conway 73 and Prudence A. 60, with son Richard C. Conway 45.

William 1843-1900 is buried in Lincoln County, Washington # 30290866. "Wm. S. Ridout was born near Selma, Delaware Co., Ind., July 14, 1843, and with his parents removed to Iowa, the summer of 1852. In April 1861, he enlisted in the first 75,000 call three months men in 5th Iowa Inft. Vols. At the expiration of said time he re-enlisted for three years or during the war. Was in several engagements, was wounded at the Battle of Champiou Hills by a stray shot from the retreating enemy. He was honorably discharged in the fall of 1863, came home to where his parents lived on a farm near Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa. He married Malinda Arbell Logsdon in Nov., 1864. He leaves six sons and three daughters and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his demise. "

In 1885 Archer is in Grand River township, Madison County, Iowa.

Arch, son of John Conway and Minnie Herbert, married Sarah A. "Ridalt" in Creston, Iowa on December 1, 1885.

November 25, 1899 "Mr. A. R. Conway and family are expected to arrive late this week from Creston, Iowa. They will reside on the Steele place."

In 1900 Laird precinct, Archer is farming, born March 1867, married 14 years to Sarah March 1868, with Adrin R. August 1886 and eugene Dec 1888, all in Iowa.
Minerva was still in Madison County in 1900, widowed, living with son George and his young family.

November 9, 1901 "Arch Conway and W. S. Ramsey went to Yuma Wednesday with the ballot box and returns."

Archer R. Conway proved up a quarter in Lewis COunty, Idaho in 1909.

December 1909 "Gene Conway a son of Arch Conway left for Creston, Iowa Tuesday. His wife preceded him there a few days prior to his departure and they will settle there indefinitely."

A. R. Conway will hold a public sale at the Plucheck place, five miles south of Laird on Monday February 28th, 1910. Eleven head of horses, colts and mules, 4 cows, farm implements, household goods and some chickens will be sold. Usual terms with 8 months time.

February 11, 1940 "Sarah Alice Conway, 72, died at about 9:30 last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kyle Beard. She was born in Iowa on March 29, 1867, and was married to Archer R. Conway on Dec 1, 1855. They came to Oregon in August 1922.
Besides her husband, she is survived by: one daughter, Mrs. Kyle Beard; two sons, E. D. Conway of Kelso, Wash., and Ray Conway of Vancouver, Wash., and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Harry C. Howe chapel at 10 a. m. tomorrow. Interment will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery at Kelso, Wash."

Vivian Claire (Conway) Beard 1908-1982 is buried in Lebanon, Linn County, Oregon # 28179932, with Kyle Beard 1895-1985.

Gary Norman Beard was born May 18, 1933 at Lebanon, Oregon to parents, Kyle Roland & Vivian Claire (Conway) Beard. He died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at his home in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 81.
He was raised in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1951. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in Korea. After the service he attended Oregon Institute of Technology and earned his Associate’s Degree. On February 25, 1961 he married Sylvia Joyce Campbell in Pasco, Washington. They moved to Hermiston in 1977 and he worked in heavy construction as an Construction Engineer for 42 years. Gary was a member of the Elks Lodge #1663 & American Legion #51 both in Lebanon and the International Union of Operating Engineers #302 of Seattle, Washington. He enjoyed hunting and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sylvia J. Beard of Hermiston, OR; Daughters, Carolyn J. Wells of Entiat, WA and Sarah N. Beard-Hoffman of Hermiston, OR; Son, Kyle F. Beard of Renton, WA; Brothers, Gordon W. Beard of Junction City, OR and Wayne Kyle Beard of Thailand; 4 Grandchildren; 2 Great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle & Vivian Beard.
At his request, there will be no services held. Disposition was by cremation. Inurnment of cremains will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Lebanon, Oregon at a later date.

1906 "Thomas Smith, who has been living at Oswego, Kansas, for the past year, but who was formerly a resident of Yuma county, arrived in Wray the latter part of last week for a few weeks visit with relatives and friends."

October 11, 1907 Wray " Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smith are rejoicing over the advent of a boy at their home who arrived last Friday morning. It is the first-born, and the young parents are pardonably proud of the little fellow."

April 17, 1908 "The Great and Supreme Ruler of the Universe has in His infinite wisdom removed from the home of Brother Thomas Smith and wife their little daughter Fay."

In 1910 Wray, Thomas W. Smith is a blacksmith, married seven years to Pearl O., both 30, with Ralph e. 2 and Margarete six months, both born in Colorado. Pearl has had three kids, two living.

In 1920 Wray, Thomas is 39, Olive 40, Ralph 12, Marguerite P. 10, Stealla M. 8, Ethel C. 5, and Thomas W. newborn.

In 1930 Pearl, 50 is a laundry sorter in Denver, born in Arkansas, with Cleora E. 17 and Thoams W. 10.

In 1940 Thomas and Olive P. are in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, with Thomas W> 20.

Ollie Pearl (Stallings) Smith 1879-1969 is buried in Whittier, California # 5092812 "Married to Thomas Weaver Smith of Wray Co. "
Thomas 1880-1953 is buried in Wray # 5136465.

Ethel Cleora (Smith) Perry 1914-1983 is buried in Whittier # 7122714.
Thomas Wayne Smithe, born July 9, 1919 at Wray, died November 23, 2005.

Charles H. Conway married Ethel A. Stallings, age 22, daughter of John Stallings and Cynthia Coot, on December 2, 1894 in Madison County, Iowa.
John Dolbra Stallings and Cynthia Coate married on March 6, 1878 in Marshalltown Iowa. Cynthia 1854-1935 is buried in Oswego, Kansas # 35551926.
John 1855-1928 is also buried in Oswego # 35551953.

In 1900 Laird precinct, Charley is farming, born August 1867, married six years to Ethel W. March 1868, with Hazel Oct 1895 and Harlan June 1897, all four born in Iowa.

April 1903 "Dr. Johnson was called out to Chas. Conway Monday morning to treat Mr. Stalling who is threatened with pneumonia."
December 1909 "George Cecil a nephew of Charley Conway arrived this week from Creston, Iowa and is visiting his uncle for a few days."
This is the son of Birdie I. (Conway) and James A. Cecil. Birdie/ Bertha 1861-1913 is buried in Creston # 20017287.

Hazel is buried in Wray, # 17095965/

In 1910 Yuma County, Minerva 60 widowed, born in Ohio, is living with son Charles, farming, 39 and his wife Ethel W. 38, both born in Iowa. Harland 11 was born in Iowa, and Delbert 8 in Colorado.

Minerva is with Charles, Ethel, and John D. in 1920 Yuma County.

In 1930 Wray, Charles is a painter, 59, with Ethel 58 and Minerva 89.

Minerva is with them in 1940 in Wray, age 99, and Charles is still a painter.

September 1923

Harlan Conway died in Washington, son of Charles Howard Conway and Ethel Stillings.

Harlan, 22 of Wray, Colorado, son of Charles Howard Conway and Ethel August Stallings had married Estella Leola Buck, 20, of Creston , Iowa, daughter of Carl Buck and Maggie Harkness on June 12, 1918 in Union County, Iowa.
On June 11, also in Union County, James Earl Galbreath 24, of Wray, Colorado, son of Charles Galbreath and Luancy E. Bullard, married Nellie Mildred Mahoney/Maharry, son of C.S. Maharry and Minera Alice Bray.

Ethel A. Conway 1872-1947 is buried in Wray, # 17087195, and so is Charles H. 1870-1948 # 17087184.
Thursday December 25, 1947 Wray Gazette (Extract)

Funeral services for Mrs. Charles H. Conway were held at the Christian Church and interment was at Grandview Cemetery. Mrs. Conway has lived in this community for nearly a half a century.
Ethel Augusta, daughter of John D. and Cynthia Stallings, was born March 21, 1872 in Marshall County, Iowa and died December 19, 1947 at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 29 days.
She grew to womanhood on her parents homestead in Kansas and later returned to Iowa where on December 2, 1891 she married Charles H. Conway. They came to this community in 1899 and lived on a farm south of Wray until they retired and moved into Wray. Three children were born to them, Hazel Iva, who died August 5, 1907, J. D. of Denver and Harlan of Wray.
Mrs. Conway was one of a family of six children, four of whom survive, two sisters, Mrs. T. W. Smith of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Estelle Stallings of Parsons, Kansas and two brothers, J. R. Stallings of emporia, Kansas and M. K. Stallings of Chardon, Nebraska. One brother R. C. Stallings preceded her in Death in 1946. Surviving are her husband and two sons.
In August 1913 she became a member of the Wray Christian Church of which she was a faithful and loved member at the time of her death.

Thursday August 5, 1948 Wray Gazette (Extract)

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at the Christian Church in Wray for Charles Howard Conway, a respected citizen of this community since 1899, who died at his home late Monday afternoon at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 7 days. Mr. Conway had been suffering from a heart condition for several years. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery.
He was born August 26, 1870 in Marshall County, Iowa, a son of John and Minerva Conway. He spent his boyhood there with his brothers and sisters, and later farmed in that region for several years. On December 2, 1894 he was married to Ethel Augusta Stallings. They came to the Wray vicinity in 1899 and farmed south of Wray until the retired 28 years later and moved to town.
The couple had three children, one of them with her mother, preceded him in death. She was Hazel Iva and died August 5, 1907. The two sons who survive are John Delbert of Denver and Harlan of Wray.

In 1920 Wray, Manley is 24, Miriam 25 born in Kansas, with M. Keith 2 and LaRean 1 both born in Colorado. Manley is running a garage with Thomas Smith, his brother-in-law.

Manley and Miriam are in Chadron, Nebraska in 1930, And in 1940, both 45, with Carol 18, Keith 22 and his wife Hazel 19 born in Wyoming.

So is Miriam 1894-1979 # 40339923.

Manley Keith Stallings, born April 1917 in Wray, died August 23, 2003 in Missoula, Montana, buried in Gregson, Montana # 99346330. "Manley Keith Stallings was born to Manley K. Stallings and Miriam B. Jones, the only son of 5 children. By 1930 the family had moved to Chadron, Nebraska where he attended schools and graduated from high school. He met his future wife, Hazel Mudra, at a community dance and they were married at Harrison, Nebraska on August 30, 1939. They made there homes throughout their life at Chadron, Nebraska, Hay Springs, Nebraska, and Anaconda, Montana, in a community known as Opportunity until their deaths. He worked in his life as a mechanic, farmer, handyman, and upon moving to Montana he worked for the Anaconda Copper Co. as a smelterman at the Anaconda smelter and ended he working career working at the Butte, Montana Berkerly Pit as a mechanic working on the large pit mine trucks. There were 4 children born to their union consisting of 2 boys and 2 girls. One passion throughout his life was reading, including many subjects, and after moving from the farm he had more leisure time which allowed him to do another thing he loved, which was to travel, and after retiring he spent his winters in Arizona. He passed away at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula."
Larene Stallings, 18, of Chadron, Nebraska, married Roy Shanholtzer on August 23, 1936 in Fall River County, South Dakota.

Larene Shanholtzer 1918-1989 is buried in Newport, Washington # 40038297.

July 5, 1964 Missoula, Montana

------------------------------ Their son, Charles Harlan Conway, born June 9, 1898 West Branch, Macksburg, Iowa, died of a heart attack August 14, 1950 at Newport, Washington while he and his brother were visiting an Uncle. Survivors listed in his 1950 obit were his wife Leola (Buck) and three children, Mrs. Maurice E. Richards of St. Louis, Mrs. Irwin Erdley of Denver and Duane Harlan of Wray. (The girls were Berna Dell and Audra Lee.)

Another family of Conway - in the southeast part of the county

April 15, 1904 "Died on Wednesday April 13 at his home near Beecher, little Tommy Conway, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Conway. The cause of the death was pneumonia. The deceased was sick only a short time but the disease made rapid strides. Tommy was a boy of fifteen years and was an exceptionally bright lad. The parents and other relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in this hour of their bereavement."
July 1905 "My wife, Maggie T. Conway, having left my bed and board, I will not be responsible for any debts she may contract, or that may be contracted in her behalf, or for her children.
Dated at Wray, Colorado this 12th day of July, 1905

Maggie had a visit in 1912 from a sister Mrs. Murphy of Geddis, South Dakota
